Welcoming refugees fleeing violence is a huge part of European history. That’s why the news that the whole of Europe has offered to resettle only 1% of Syrian refugees is so shocking.
Syrian families are right now fleeing Isis in their thousands, searching for sanctuary from slavery, beheadings and crucifixions. In just three days, Turkey took in more Syrian refugees than Europe has in threeyears. And Isis is only the most recent chapter. Violence from the Assad regime has forced ten million people from their homes - half the country! - and more than 3 million out of Syria.
Right now we have a critical chance to persuade Europe’s richest countries to do more.
In days, leaders are gathering in Berlin to discuss their response to the refugee crisis. They will be doing all they can to talk about Syria’s neighbouring countries while ignoring Europe’s responsibility to resettle the most vulnerable.
Sign the petition on the right and call on Europe’s richest countries to resettle more Syrian refugees. We’ll deliver our call to leaders and the media outside the conference centre in Berlin in a way they’ll find hard to ignore.
