A British diver believes he has found the weapons of Great Britain’s most celebrated naval hero in a British warship that sank off the coast of Lebanon in 1893.

Ellyatt told the Telegraph that he would like to salvage the sword but is worried that it would be seized by local authorities. The discovery of the high-profile item, among other treasures on the ship, has caught the attention of the Defense Ministry. Officials from the ministry (which claims legal ownership of the wreck) have contacted Ellyatt and requested that all of Nelson’s belongings be left on board.
“If the items are recovered, I would like to see them end up in a museum in the U.K.,” Ellyatt said. “The cabin [of the ship] is a bit like a shrine, with all kinds of nice things hanging on the wall.”
