Second Protester Killed in Saudi Arabia - WSJ.com
Security forces in Saudi Arabia shot and killed a 21-year-old man in that country’s Eastern Province, the second fatal shooting in two days at protests by the province’s Shiite Muslims, according to accounts Saturday from authorities and activists.
Zuhair al-Said died Friday in the Eastern Province city of Qatif. As in Thursday’s fatal shooting, a government statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency said security forces were monitoring an illegal gathering when the forces came under fire, leading security forces to return fire.
Activists, speaking anonymously out of what they said was fear of retaliation, said the protesters had been unarmed. In a video posted online by activists that they said showed the shooting, no firearms could be seen among protesters gathering near armored vehicles, and no shots could be heard until a round that sent protesters running. The authenticity of the video couldn’t be verified independently.
