Daily report from Latakia on Wednesday 06 June 2012
The criminal military campaign continued on Haffeh and surrounding villages as well as in Kurds Mountains with fierce resistance from the FSA and patience from locals.
Since last night many explosions were heard in Haffeh area along with heavy gunfire, while Assad forces burned woodlands near Haffeh’s main bakery.
An army flight hit mourners in the town of Haffeh as they were getting ready for a funeral injuring many. Shelling resumed on Haffeh from three axes using missiles as well as from helicopters. Kebbineh and Ikko suffered from shelling also this morning. Heavy gunfire was heard last night in Salma village.
Calling an officer with the FSA he confirmed that everything was under their control in Haffeh and Regime forces can only hit from far or by using army flight while if suffered great loses. Salma was also under control of Izzidine al-Qassam battalion of the FSA while the Free Coast brigade surrounded the area blocking any regime reinforcements. The rest of Kurds Mountains was also under control of Free Coast brigade of FSA, and Assad forces could only target from far like in Haffeh. Assad army has control on Turkman Mountains area only where another FSA brigade was formed a couple of days age under the name of Free Turkman brigade.
Death toll mounted to 11 victims today with many others wounded as explosion sounds never ceased especially from villages like Dfail and Shirqaq. Humanitarian situation is however worsening in the area as foods and medical supplies are decreasing and power is off. Wounded and other locals could not be cleared under this much shelling, and with snipers on roads.
Names of today’s victims in Haffeh and other areas: Mustafa Mirza [kinsebba, FSA], Thaer Amin [Shirqaq, civilian] along with his wife and two kids, Abdul-Qader Saed [Haffeh, FSA, 21 years], Wael Yaseen [Haffeh, FSA, 30 years], Ismail Marwan Ali Deeb [Haffeh, civilian], Fatima Fateh [Haffeh, civilian], Zuhair Muhammad al-Haj [Haffeh, civilian, 33 years], Bahaa Ali Deeb [Haffeh, civilian, 18 years], Mustafa Ismail [Haffeh, civilian, 30 years].
Initial figure for Assad army losses suggests more than 40 killed among them was Chancellor Jouma Nofal commander of brigade 53, and more than 120 wounded in Latakia hospitals according to a connection in the Army Hospital in Latakia.
The night saw more clashes between regime army and FSA especially near Salma in an attempt for Assad forces to regain control. And in Haffeh two huge explosions were heard along with heavy gunfire.
Despite all the killing and under shelling locals in Haffeh demonstrated cheering for freedom and victims.
Heavy security was in latakia on barriers of al-Raml and Skantoori as cars and people were inspected. Gunfire was heard near the Army Hospital and many big explosions were heard at night in the city; mostly sound bombs by security to scare people. Gunfire was aimed at houses in Qnainas by Assad gangs.
Despite that many protests took place in various parts of the city.
