A leading Ukrainian designer of high-precision armaments, State Kyiv Design Bureau Luch, has presented for the first time the Sarmat combat module - at the Eurosatory-2014 exhibition in Paris.

Interestingly, the Varan shown at Eurosatory sported a SARMAT remote weapon station (RWS) produced by Ukraine’s Luch design bureau. This is armed with a .50 cal machine gun plus four RK-3 anti-tank guided missiles (ATGWs), which each weigh 14.6 kg and have a range of 2,500 m, or two RK-2S ATGWs, which each weigh 29.5 kg and have a range of 5,000 m. The machine gun is mounted in the centre of the RWS, with the missiles to the left and guidance and thermal imaging devices to the right.
