Le gaz de schiste américain traversera bientôt l’Atlantique sous forme liquéfiée, à bord de méthaniers. Le premier contrat d’exportation vient d’être signé avec un opérateur gazier britannique.

R. Le peak oil n’est plus vraiment d’actualité.

Le peak oil n’est plus vraiment d’actualité, c’est le titre d’un article à part qui reprend ce passage dans la version papier. Mais, dans 5 ans il y aura quand même moins de pétrole à la pompe.

In its World Energy Outlook, the International Energy Agency has revealed that the US will overtake Saudi Arabia and become the world’s largest oil and gas producer by 2020. An energy-independent US will translate to a different approach to US foreign policy, especially with regards to the Middle East says the report, though the Middle East will continue to have the largest and most low-cost fields. The report predicts an increasing reliance on new kinds of gas production such as the notorious “fracking” of shale gas. The impact of greenhouse emissions caused while extracting Shale gas is expected to be low, however its actual global warming potential is “yet to be determined” but heavy emissions from gas and oil shale production are well-known.

Pastor Barry Wuganaale, a member of the Ogoni Solidarity Forum, told the group he had lived in the Niger Delta, where the land of the Ogoni people had been horribly polluted by oil. “One thing our Ogoni people in the Niger Delta are rich in is our appalling experience with Shell. I would be doing a disservice to mankind if I did not share it.
“Africa has been raped. The scars of environmental rape will haunt generations afterwards, so don’t allow it [fracking]. We Ogoni people have resisted Shell without any legislation. You have legislation backing you, you have freedom of the press, exploit it,” Wuganaale said.

A remarkable increase in the rate of [magnitude-3.0] and greater earthquakes is currently in progress," the scientists state in the abstract for their study. “A naturally-occurring rate change of this magnitude is unprecedented outside of volcanic settings or in the absence of a main shock.”
The surge in temblors is “almost certainly man-made,” they found, and all of the potential causes they explore in the paper relate to drilling, or more specifically, deep underground injection of drilling waste.
