Pete Seeger Takes OWSers on a Singing March—Watch Video
Last night after a concert on the Upper West Side, folk singer and progressive hero Pete Seeger, age 92, his grandson Tao-Rodriguez Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and others led a singing march in support of Occupy Wall Street that culminated in an “occupation” of Columbus Circle with a sing-along of Seeger’s classic protest songs.
There’s a great deal of amateur video circulating on the internet of course, and much of it is good enough to be inspirational and moving. Seeger has been absolutely instrumental in maintaining, creating, and inspiring the American protest song playbook—and the more than 1,000 marchers raised their voices in song as homage.
