Daily report from #Latakia on Monday 11 June 2012

Shelling was nearly continuous for the most part today in Haffeh and villages, while since morning the town was suffering shortage of bread, food, and medications with power and communications off. FSA were still defending the area bravely and strongly.

A brigade of tanks was spotted tried to raid the town from east near the hospital while army planes were shooting rockets on Haffeh with heavy gunfire also by the hospital. Dfail was shelled by missiles, rockets, and mortar and with tanks and planes. Mortar was also used to shell Bkas and Haffeh from the Latakia-Haffeh road side, and tanks shelled Shirqaqand Haffeh from the Hospital side again.

A serious development was recorded today as regime used internationally banned nail bombs in Haffeh, and clashes took place near Sherdub area in the town.

In Haffeh also five consecutive explosions were heard later near a security branch as regime shelling hit many governmental buildings in the town. Three more explosions were heard as well as gunfire near the hospital, while Shiekh Husamo village was hit using rocket launchers.

We received confirmed news of a UN observer’s team visiting latakia’s governor who is trying to delay their visit to Haffeh.

Upon a call with an FSA officer he confirmed that no Assad gangs are left in Kurds Mountains as many died while 25 soldiers and officers were arrested. Shellef village was however shelled by helicopters today and many army members were seen on Latakia-Aleppo road near Bdama, and a brigade of tanks along with 30 army cars were heading to Kurds Mountains. Regime burned all bushes near Terdine village.

Wounded and victims were many today as well but we were unable to have accurate numbers, let alone not being able to get to some them, due to constant shelling. We however learned that 17 year-old Obada Anjuka died after being shot and Ahmad Ameen died during the shelling.

Activist Muhammad Hasan [Abu-Suhail] died with a rocket right after his call with Al-Jazeera channel explaining the situation in Haffeh.

Security cars were seen roaming around Karama and Hurriah schools to prevent students from protesting after their exams, more security cars were seen in Cornish and Amuda and Mashrou’ al-Slaybeh for the same purpose.

Two brother kids were arrested in Sheikh Daher near Antakia Street; 15 year-old Ahmad Meresh and 10 year-old Nuhammad Meresh.

#Latakia province: 10 civilians were injured by the regime’s bombardment of al-Heffa. 2 rebel fighters were injured during clashes in the outskirts of the area. Reports indicate that Syrian troops have also suffered casualties, no definite numbers yet.

Over 50 killed in #Syria as troops pound rebels strongholds, activists say

Helicopter gunships on Monday fired on rebel positions in central and northwestern Syria in a bid to snuff out the gunmen as violence killed 52 people across the country, a monitoring group said.

Helicopters strafed rebels positions in #Al-Heffa, in the northwestern province of #Latakia, and in #Rastan, in the central province of Homs, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

#Daraa/Yadouda: violent clashes are taking place at the Yaduda checkpoint.

#Homs/al-Quseir: the fierce shelling escalated on the village killing many people and wounding many others amid total power cut.

#Daraa/Ibtaa: Security forces campaign is still going on up to now. About 15 people were wounded by security forces who abducted most of the wounded. Scores of people were arrested, including children and the elderly. In addition, security forces burned many houses and cars. It is worth noting that this campaign have started since 06:00 am this morning by ten armoured vehicles and 25 security buses full of 30 Shabeehas each.

#Rural Homs/al-Dara al-Kabeera: security forces and Shabeehas raided the village. A large number of shells fell on the village, and there are fears of another massacre.

#Homs/Rastan: Shadi Mousa, a child, was killed by the continual shelling.

#Homs alKhaldya: 7 people were killed by a rocket in al-Khaldya.

#Latakia/al-Hiffeh: shells fell on residential houses in the city, some people were killed, others were injured, including women and children, some of the wounded are in a critical situation.

syriahr#Latakia province: The bombardment of al-Heffa, and its surrounding village, has continued for the fourth day running. 2 civilians have been martyred by the regime’s shelling today, raising the number of civilians killed in the 4 days of bombardment, and clashes, to 33, including 3 women and 17 non-military rebel fighters. A defected officer was also killed during onslaught. The Syrian armed forces have suffered heavy losses as well, medical sources have confirmed that the number of Syrian troops killed in the last 4 days in the al-Heffa area stands at 46 soldiers, several officers were among the dead; more than 120 soldiers have been wounded.
