The Sun’s 22nd journalist arrested under Operation Elveden

The Metropolitan police said that a journalist, a 39-year-old man, was arrested on Thursday morning in Hertfordshire by detectives from Operation Elveden, on suspicion of conspiracy to corrupt and suspected conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office. He has been taken to a station in north London.

The campaigners stopped a train carrying about 1,000 tonnes of coal to the Drax power station in North Yorkshire in 2008. Kennedy is understood to have infiltrated the group, assisting them with a reconnaissance mission and later driving some campaigners to a rendezvous. They were convicted in 2009.

But on Friday, Anonymous, a diffuse network of internet hackers, reached a new level when it intercepted and leaked a conference call between FBI agents and Scotland Yard detectives.
The astonishing feat - confirmed as genuine by the FBI - was apparently carried out after the hackers breached email accounts belonging to the authorities. In doing so, they were able to snoop on communications being exchanged between forces involved in a joint international anti-hacking operation across England, Ireland, Holland, France, Denmark, Sweden and America. In a piece of surreal real-life theatre, the tables were embarrassingly and dramatically turned. The investigators became the investigated; the watchers became the watched.
The call in question, which lasts around 16 minutes, is one of the boldest leaks ever produced by the hackers, and it may also be one of the most revelatory. A fascinating glimpse into a highly classified world, it shows the extent to which the Metropolitan police is willing to collaborate with its foreign counterparts as part of cyber-crime investigations, even if doing so means interfering with the British judicial process. At one point during the call, for instance, one of the Scotland Yard detectives tells his FBI colleagues that they secretly delayed an ongoing court case involving two UK-based suspected hackers - Jake Davis and Ryan Cleary - at America’s behest.

Et là aussi tu trouveras à chaque fois, une paire de pieds surnuméraires dans un alignement d’officiels ou des mains en trop, ou toutes sortes de maladresses, certaines vertigineuses quand elles ne sont pas suréalistes

“Boire en compagnie de journalistes n’est en soi pas interdit, mais ce devrait être un événement exceptionnel.” Pleine de bon sens, la parlementaire Dame Elizabeth Filkin s’adresse aux policiers britanniques dans un rapport sur “les questions éthiques relatives aux relations entre la police et les médias” rendu public ce mercredi.
Il conseille aux policiers de se méfier des reporters qui "flirtent" pour les amadouer. Les chastes officiers déclineront les propositions de "faire la fête jusqu’à une heure avancée de la nuit" et prendront garde à “la bouteille de vin de trop à l’heure du déjeuner, autant de tactiques journalistiques pour délier les langues".

Scotland Yard a annoncé avoir fait une descente dans une centaine d’appartements mercredi [21 décembre] à Londres et procédé à 62 arrestations, lors d’une opération d’envergure contre les émeutiers impliqués dans les violences urbaines de cet été.
« L’opération d’aujourd’hui (mercredi) démontre que quatre mois après les incidents de Londres, nous sommes absolument déterminés à identifier et arrêter les personnes responsables des émeutes », a commenté un responsable de Scotland Yard, Robin Bhairam. Cette descente a été organisée une semaine après la diffusion sur internet par la police des portraits des « suspects les plus recherchés » dans le cadre de l’enquête sur les émeutes d’août à Londres. « À la suite de la publication de photos de plus de 200 suspects sur le site Flickr, je voudrais remercier tous ceux qui ont répondu à notre appel pour nous aider à identifier les personnes recherchées », a ajouté M. Bhairam.
À ce jour, près de 3.500 personnes soupçonnées d’avoir participé aux émeutes ont été arrêtées par Scotland Yard, et 2.179 inculpées ou citées à comparaître.
La Grande-Bretagne a connu début août pendant plusieurs jours, les pires émeutes qu’ait connues le pays en trente ans. Ces violences, consécutives à la mort d’un jeune homme pendant une opération de police dans le nord de Londres, avaient rapidement gagné plusieurs autres villes anglaises, donnant lieu à des scènes de vandalismes et de pillages devant des forces de police largement débordées. Cinq personnes avaient été tuées lors de ces émeutes.
