  • Why America Invented Ahmad Chalabi - The New York Times

    Clair.

WITH his death, the Iraqi politician Ahmad Chalabi is once again in the news. Detractors rage about his supply of fabricated intelligence on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction that supposedly tricked Washington into war. Supporters claim he was a heroic dissident who was never given the chance to transform his troubled country into paradise.

Both miss the real story, which is that Mr. Chalabi was less a cause of the Iraq war than a convenient enabler of it. He was an answer to America’s problems, not Iraq’s, and if he had never existed, his backers would probably have conjured up a replacement to serve the same function.

  • The Return of Ahmad Chalabi – Justin Raimondo

Back in 2004, US troops in Iraq raided Chalabi’s headquarters. The accusation: he had leaked classified US intelligence to the Iranians, letting them in on the secret that we had cracked Tehran’s interagency code. For years, Chalabi had been on the CIA payroll, but now it looked like he was in reality a double-agent acting on behalf of Iran. The real shocker, however, was that Chalabi had access to this kind of closely-guarded intelligence in the first place. The FBI wanted to know how the wily Iranian exile leader got his hands on the information.

The trail led directly to … AIPAC headquarters, nerve center of the Jewish state’s powerful Washington lobby. The FBI raided the building and carried away truckloads of evidence – twice.

Do you remember Bank MEBCO? What about PETRA? Both banks were driven to their Bankruptcy by one man: the Iraqi Ahmad Chalabi. The Arab Digest sheds light on this man’s fresh links to Beirut.

“Follow the money” is the only way to understand Ahmad Chalabi, according to his biographer Aram Roston.* The Iraqi politician, invasion enthusiast and former banker has based some of his media and financial operations in Beirut.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farid_Ghadry

Farid al-Ghadry (Arabic: فريد الغادري) (born on June 18, 1954) is the Syrian-born co-founder and current president of the United States-based Reform Party of Syria, a party lobbying for regime change in Syria. Many of al-Ghadry’s critics have compared him to Ahmad Chalabi, the Iraqi exile who lobbied the US government to invade his home country. Ghadry has functioned as an American defense contractor and businessman, “Frank Ghadry,” who represents himself as being born in Lebanon. Ghadry is a member of AIPAC, Israel’s main lobbying group in the U.S., and has strongly supported all of Israel’s recent wars in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.
