Denver Post photographer RJ Sangosti spent time over the past year making pictures in communities across the high plains of eastern Colorado. He found that all is not well for this section of small-town America.
AKRON, CO-July 08, 2013: Almost everyone in the room at the Washington County fairgrounds in Akron, CO, raised their hands when asked if they felt if their needs were being ignored by the Colorado State Legislature during a public meeting to talk about the idea of forming the 51st state, July 08, 2013. The proposal came after many attending the meeting felt that the State Legislature continued to ignore the needs of rural Colorado. (Photo By RJ Sangosti/The Denver Post)
BRISTOL, CO - JULY 23, 2013: Elmer Stalford’s shadow is seen in the window of the closed post office in Bristol as he turns to look at a cattle truck passing through town, July 23, 2013. Stalford runs the only still operating business in Bristol - an auto repair shop. “I am the only business left. They have all moved on,” he said. Bristol lost its township after the post office closed. (Photo By RJ Sangosti/The Denver Post)
