We knew we had heard the phrase bandied about the past couple of years on Fox News, and went looking in Google to find out where we had heard it.

Originally we thought the chief culprit would be Glenn Beck, who has indeed made a fetish out of Marxism on his show. But the chief promoter of the concept of “Cultural Marxism” on Fox News was none other than Andrew Breitbart:

Breitbart has made a number of attacks on “Cultural Marxism” as a liberal phenomenon — such as his insistence that “political correctness is Cultural Marxism”. Indeed, Breitbart has made something of a fetish about using the phrase. Likewise he has made something of a fetish out of “Frankfurt School” theories.

And as you can see from the above video, he got a nice national platform to promote the concept back in 2009 on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show — twice. This is a classic form of what acting as a “media transmitter,” repackaging ideas that originated on the racist/anti-Semitic Far Right and injecting them into the mainstream.

Un bon début a été tenté ce samedi, sur le Mall de Washington. Une foule impressionnante a répondu à l’appel de Jon Stewart et Stephen Colbert, les humoristes qui invitaient à « restaurer le bon sens » (sanity en anglais, que l’on peut aussi traduire par « santé mentale »). Mais l’impression globale est qu’il y avait vraiment du monde, plus que pour la manif anti Tea Party du 2 octobre). Le nombre se rapprochait même peut-être de la grande manif de Glenn Beck, une autre vedette de la télévision qui aurait réuni près de 100 000 personnes le 28 août et auquel il s’agissait de répondre ce samedi. Glenn Beck avait rassemblé une foule très blanche et plutôt âgée, pour invoquer Dieu et « restaurer l’honneur » de l’Amérique (sous-entendu, la délivrer des mains d’Obama).
