Presidential Candidate Registration Begins:
The registration period for the upcoming presidential election began on Tuesday. According to Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar, 243 individuals have submitted applications, including: former nuclear negotiator Hassan Rouhani; Mohammad-Reza Aref, Vice President under Mohammad Khatami and Expediency Council member; Kamran Bagheri Lankarani, a conservative former Health Minister; Ali Fallahian, a conservative member of the Assembly of Experts and former Minister of Intelligence; and Mostafa Kavakebian, a former reform-leaning MP. The registration period will end on Saturday evening.

Speculation Surrounding Rafsanjani and Mashaei:
Former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani made headlines Sunday after claiming that he intends to speak with Khamenei about his candidacy. Sadeq Zibakalam, a prominent political analyst, claims that Rafsanjani will eventually stand. On Friday, former President Khatami reiterated that, in his opinion, Rafsanjani is the best option. Other political experts believe there is a possibility that, in the absence of Rafsanjani’s candidacy, all three members of the 2+1 Coalition will register and run in the election, rather than choosing one unity candidate. Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, a member of the 2+1 Coalition, seemed to confirm this option, saying, “…it is yet not clear when exactly we will announce the result [on the designated unity candidate],” but "the announcement will not take place” before the Guardian Council has completed the candidate vetting process. On Thursday, the conservative Coalition of Five became the first coalition to announce a unity candidate: former First Deputy-Speaker of the Parliament Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard. In an interview published on Thursday, Bahman Sharifzadeh, a Mashaei supporter, asserted that Mashaei would register on the last day of the registration period.

New Minister of Labor Approved; Head of Medical Association Blocked:
On Sunday, Parliament approved President Ahmadinejad’s Minister of Labor nominee, MP Asadollah Abbasi. On Wednesday, reports emerged that the writ of approval for Iran’s new Medical Association head was sent to the office of President for the third time, with Ahmadinejad again refusing to sign it. Ahmadinejad’s refusal to sign the approval may stem from his dissatisfaction with the vetting process and the denial of his favored candidates during the Medical Association elections in February.

Kahrizak Trial Continues:
On Tuesday, the seventh session of the Kahrizak trial was held behind closed doors. During the session, Director General of Tehran’s Prisons Sohrab Soleimani testified that the now-closed Kahrizak facility was not a legal detention center. One of the defendants, former Deputy Prosecutor Ali Akbar Heidarifar, argued that the Ministry of Justice’s failure to nullify the detainees’ imprisonment orders was tantamount to granting its approval for them.

Intelligence Ministry Releases Details of Government Scandal:
Earlier this week, Minister of Intelligence and presidential hopeful Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi released a report concerning a 450 million Euro scandal involving the government’s alleged construction contract in the free trade area of Kish. Reports indicate that construction proceeded without the appropriate auctioning procedures. The government has denied the allegations.

Dans un discours retransmis par vidéo à l’occasion du 25e anniversaire du lancement de la radio al-Nour, organe du Hezbollah, le secrétaire général du Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah a déclaré que la Syrie va transférer au Hezbollah des armes qui vont changer l’équilibre des forces dans la région.

« Si vous considérez la Syrie comme un pays permettant le transfert d’armes au Hezbollah, alors la Syrie va donner à la résistance de nouvelles armes qui sont capables de changer l’équilibre des forces dans la région », a lancé Hassan Nasrallah.

« Vous avez lancé une guerre contre la Syrie pour l’affaiblir, vous avez donc ouvert la voie à la création d’une résistance populaire pour la libération du Golan occupé, a-t-il encore dit. Puisque la Syrie est restée aux côtés du Liban durant la guerre, nous allons rester à ses côtés et lui fournir un soutien militaire et logistique pour libérer le Golan occupé », a martelé Hassan Nasrallah.

Will the latest attack allegedly carried out by Israel on the Syrian front awaken a military response from the Assad regime and its supporters?
 
On Wednesday, the Hezbollah-identified Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar quoted Iranian officials who claimed that Iran received a message from the United States and Russia stating that the alleged Israeli airstrike was not an attempt to launch a war against Syria.
 
 According to the sources, Tehran responded to both sides by stating that operational command officers of the Syrian army were ordered to automatically respond to any attack against their homeland.
 
As with other reactions in recent days, it appears that the involved parties are intent upon warning against future attacks, and not eager to enter into a full scale war.
 
 Iranian officials have warned that their reaction to preceived aggressions would likely would be expressed in one of two ways. The first, one of the sources said, would be “a blow below the belt in more than one location,” both within and outside of Syria, as they approached “the Day of Judgment.”
 
The same source indicated that “a final decision has been taken to turn the Golan Heights into the new ‘Fatahland’ and the front will be open to “Syrians, Palestinians and to all who want to fight Israel.”
 
The second manner of response, according to the same sources, would be expressed on the political level. Preparations are currently underway for a far-reaching Syria conference, to be held in Tehran, in which the Syrian regime will be represented by Syrian Minister for National Reconcilation Ali Haider and by the Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Qadri Jamil.
 
In addition, preparations are underway for an international conference of states designated “Friends of the Syrian people,” which is scheduled to take place two weeks from now in Tehran. Forty states have been invited to participate. Iran will take the opportunity to announce a new initiative to solve the crisis in Syria.
 
The Kuwaiti newspaper, Alrai, quoted statements by Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah in closed meetings. He rejected the possibility that Israel would enter into southern Lebanon, because, according to him, Israel knows Lebanon would become its “cemetery.” He was quoted as saying that “the Iron Dome (missile defense system) which Israel boasts about has proven that it is more feeble than a spider web."

 The report also said that Nasrallah recently participated in more than one session of the Hezbollah’s “Jihad Council.” The newspaper claimed that during these meetings, the secretary-general stated, “Israel believes that if it attacks facilities and strategic stockpiles, it changes the resistance capabilities. This is an erroneous assessment.” He said,"The reason being that the stocks of the resistance have been filled with all that it needs."
 
Nasrallah also warned, “If Israel attacks any (arms) cache of Hezbollah in Lebanon, the response will be immediate and total war.”

Accord du gouvernement et du parlement pour augmenter les prix de 60%

Ces derniers jours en Iran, les prix de tous les produits et en particulier ceux de première nécessité ont été revus à la hausse. Selon les médias officiels, la viande a augmenté de 60%, l’huile de 40%, les haricots de 28%, le riz indien de 14% et le thon de 100%.

Hassan Radmard, vice-ministre de l’Industrie et du Commerce du régime iranien, a estimé que la hausse des prix est en moyenne de 30%. Même si cela reste éloigné de la réalité, en admettant que l’augmentation soit fondée sur ce faux chiffre, il apparait évident qu’une portion significative de la population ne peut même plus acheter de pain.

Ahmad Tavakoli, membre du parlement des mollahs, a récemment constaté : « Les gens ne peuvent même plus manger d’echkeneh (un plat très modeste), parce que l’echkeneh nécessite une cuillère d’huile. »

Les factions ennemies au sein du régime qui se livrent des batailles rangées au parlement et au gouvernement, affichent une union sacrée quand il s’agit de vider les poches de la population et la piller dans des dimensions astronomiques. Durant les délibérations sur la loi du budget de la nouvelle année iraniennes 1392 (mars 2012- mars 2013), le parlement a fixé le cours de la devise à 2350 tomans pour un dollar. C’est plus que le double du taux précédent de 1226 tomans. Cela double le prix des biens importés.

Le parlement a non seulement accepté les taxes écrasantes d’Ahmadinejad dans la loi du budget, mais il les a faites passer de 53.000 milliards de tomans à 55.000 milliards.

Le prix élevé des médicaments et des services médicaux met en danger la vie de millions d’Iraniens. Le président de l’Association des Sciences et Laboratoires d’Iran a déclaré le 16 avril : Les mutuelles étaient censées couvrir jusqu’à 70% du coût des services des laboratoires. Or à présent ils sont pratiquement le contraire qui se produit et avec les nouveaux taux, près de 90% du coût des analyses sont aux frais de la population.

Mehdi Soleimanjahy, un homme du pouvoir à la Direction de l’alimentation et des médicaments en Iran, a affirmé que les prix des médicaments produits en Iran augmenteront de 20 à 30% et ceux des médicaments importés le seront à 100%. Hassan Emami Razavi, sous-directeur des soins au ministère de la Santé, a déclaré que le coût de l’hospitalisation dans les hôpitaux privés est de 700.000 tomans la nuit. Cela représente le double du salaire d’un ouvrier. Les médias officiels ont annoncé une hausse de 53% du coût des admissions dans les hôpitaux publics. La montée des prix n’a pas non plus épargné les services publics comme l’eau, l’électricité, le gaz et le téléphone.

L’accord entre les factions ennemies du régime sur le pillage de la population comprend la seconde phase de la suppression des subventions. Le quotidien Mardomsalari écrit : « Bien que les membres du parlement n’aient pas voté pour la mise en œuvre de la phase suivante concernant des subventions ciblées, le gouvernement, s’appuyant sur les lois déjà adoptées, est pratiquement dans la totale libéralisation des prix et la mise en œuvre de la phase suivante des subventions ciblées dans le pays. »

Ainsi, déchiré par une guerre pour le pouvoir en raison de la mascarade électorale, le régime réagit comme un seul homme quand il s’agit de piller et d’augmenter les prix, tout comme pour intensifier la répression.

Les coûts astronomiques d’une arme nucléaire, du maintien de la dictature sanglante de Bachar el-Assad et du Hezbollah, tout comme les frais exorbitants pour entretenir les forces de la répression que sont les gardiens de la révolution, la milice du Bassidj et les agents en civil, requièrent des budgets mirobolants financés par l’argent public.

Il va sans dire que ce grand pillage s’accompagne de la crainte de la colère d’une population excédée qui se retrouve les assiettes vides à table. Les dirigeants sentent très bien le potentiel explosif qui menace la dictature, en raison de la résistance organisée présente dans tout le pays.

1. Il a d’abord répété que le Hezbollah n’était pas responsable de l’envoi du drone (il y a quelques jours) au-dessus d’Israël. Il propose son analyse de la guerre en Syrie : selon lui, le but même de la guerre est la destruction de la Syrie en tant que pays unifié, et sa transformation en « État raté » (failed state, disent les Américains) afin de la faire disparaitre de l’« équation régionale ». C’est une thèse qui circule beaucoup (que d’aucuns appliquaient déjà à l’Irak), mais n’avait pas encore reçu une telle visibilité (même si Noam Chomsky et Stephen Walt ont pu écrire des choses similaires concernant d’autres guerres étatsuniennes).

Si le message était déjà ainsi passé, c’est la première fois que le Secrétaire générale du Hezbollah reconnaît une intervention directe du parti dans le conflit syrien. Auparavant, il n’avait reconnu que des participations isolées de membres du parti à titre individuel.

6. Il a enfin évoqué le sort des pélerins libanais retenus à Azaz en Syrie et rappelé que les négociations avec l’Arabie séoudite, la Turquie et le Qatar n’ont rien donné.

Many Iraqi oil workers thought the fall of Saddam Hussein would mean they would finally be free to organize unions, and that their nationally owned industry would be devoted to financing the reconstruction of the country. But the reality could not have been more different. Earlier this month, the head of the Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions, Hassan Juma’a was hauled into a Basra courtroom and accused of organizing strikes, a charge for which he could face prison time. The union he heads is still technically illegal: Saddam’s ban on public-sector unions was the sole Saddam-era dictate kept in place under the U.S. occupation, and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki hasn’t shown any interest in changing it since most U.S. troops left.

And the oil industry? The big multinational petroleum giants now run the nation’s fields. Between 2009 and 2010, the Maliki government granted contracts for developing existing fields and exploring new ones to 18 companies, including ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch Shell, the Italian Eni, Russia’s Gazprom and Lukoil, Malaysia’s Petronas and a partnership between BP and the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation. When they started, the U.S. military provided the initial security umbrella protecting all of their field operations.

The Ministry of Oil technically still owns the oil, but functions more as the multinationals’ adjunct, while stripping workers of their rights. Since 2003 the ministry has denied the union its right to exist and retaliated against its leaders and activists. As the oil corporations rush in to lay claim to developing fields, ministry spokesman Assam Jihad told the Iraq Oil Report in 2010, “Unionists instigate the public against the plans of the oil ministry to develop [Iraq’s] oil riches using foreign development.”

A 40-year-old Jaffa resident was allegedly attacked early Sunday morning in Tel Aviv by Jewish youths and sustained serious wounds to his head. The attack, which occurred on Herbert Samuel Street around 4:00 A.M. after the victim, Hassan Ausruf, 40, had gone out to work. Ausruf operates a street-cleaning vehicle for contractor cleaning company. When Ausruf stopped his vehicle to fill its water tank, a group of youths assaulted him.

Ausruf’s wife, Nariman, told Haaretz that a group of about 15 people started to bully and attack Hassan without provocation. “He asked them why they were attacking him and they told him with utmost chutzpah ’because you’re Arab,’” Nariman told Haaretz. “They attacked him with whatever they could get their hands on, bottles and shards of glass and they inflicted serious wounds to his head and in one of his eyes.” She added, “At some point he managed to escape with his entire face covered in blood and reached a friend where he collapsed.”

The forces of religion, language, heritage and other culturally specific properties will resist the flood of globalisation. This will never take possession of African or Asian people, and for the Muslim, Islam offers the greatest immunity against assimilation.”
