Former President Thabo Mbeki released what he calls a brief commentary on the question of HIV and Aids.
In the letter, he refers to his previous efforts to challenge assumptions about the infectious disease and the criticism he received for asking questions.
SECTION27’s Mark Heywood on Monday said that the letter did not offer an apology or show remorse for Mbeki’s policy position on Aids which threatened the lives of many South Africans.
> I think that Thabo Mbeki’s latest intervention on his approach to HIV/Aids is tragic, sad, flimsy and embarrassing.
> We knew it was inevitable that he would want to write on the controversy surrounding his Aids denialism.
> What we’re seeing today is a re-statement. It’s Mbeki saying ’I’m an Aids denialist, I was always an Aids denialist and still am one.
