A young Palestinian man, identified as Mohammad Ali Dar Adwan , 23, was shot and killed by Israeli forces who invaded Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem, on Monday, and attacked local protesters, wounding at least two other young men.

The Palestinians gathered in the streets and alleys of the refugee camp, and protesteed the invasion, while several protesters hurled stones at armored military jeeps.

The soldiers fired many live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets, gas bombs and concussion grenades at the protesters.

Medical sources said the soldiers shot three young men in the refugee camp and the al-Matar adjascent neighborhood.

Adwan was near his home when he was shot and killed – it was unclear if he was participating in the protest or not.

  • Israeli forces shoot, kill Palestinian teen in al-Bireh

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian teen, on Thursday night, at the Beit El checkpoint north of al-Bireh City in the central occupied West Bank.

A Ma’an reporter said that the Palestinian Liaison identified the teen as Qassem Muhammad Ali al-Abbasi , 17, from the Silwan town in East Jerusalem.

Initial reports said that the driver of a Palestinian vehicle attempted to drive into the checkpoint before Israeli soldiers opened fire critically injuring him.

However, al-Abbasi’s friends who were with him in the vehicle refuted the Israeli claim, saying that the four of them were heading to Nablus City, in the northern West Bank, but when the road to Nablus was closed they turned back to cross via the Beit El checkpoint.

Muhammad Hani al-Abbasi added that they went into the wrong road when arriving at Beit El and suddenly realized they were inside an illegal Israeli settlement, “as we attempted to go back to the main road we were chased by either Israeli soldiers or settlers, we could barely see as there were not enough lights and it was very dark, they were about ten kilometers far from our vehicle, we kept going and we were between two settlements.”

Al-Abbasi continued to say, “We were surrounded, they randomly opened fire at us, we did not stop, we kept going fast, the vehicle’s glass broke and the tires were punctured.”

He added that one of their friends, Mahmoud al-Abbasi, then started shouting “Qassem… Qassem” as Qassem was in a very difficult condition.

Al-Abbasi added that they called an ambulance before Israeli forces arrived and forced them out of the vehicle, “But Qassem did not move and we told them to get him an ambulance.”

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) — The al-Abbasi family from Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem demanded, on Friday, that an investigation be immediately opened in the circumstances of the shooting and killing their 17-year-old son, Qassem Muhammad al-Abbasi, by Israeli forces near the Beit El checkpoint in the central occupied West Bank, late Thursday.

In a press conference held by the family, on Friday morning, family elder Moussa al-Abbasi, said that what happened to Qassem is murder, and demanded an investigation into the details of the shooting.

Al-Abbasi added that the family demanded an autopsy, and that the body of Qassem be returned so that the family can have a funeral and burial for their son.

      http://imemc.org/article/israel-to-autopsy-the-corpse-of-qassem-abasi

Salwa Hammad, the coordinator of the Palestinian National Committee for Retrieving Bodies of Martyrs, said that Israel has decided to autopsy the corpse of Qassem al-Abasi, 17, who was killed by Israeli soldiers on December 20th, 2018.

Hammad said that Qassem’s corpse would likely be handed back to his family for burial Sunday.

Karim Jubran, the head of the field office of Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (B’Tselem), said that the investigations Israel sometimes carries out after killing Palestinians cannot be trusted, and only aim at burying the truth.

He added that the experience B’Tselem had in similar previous cases revealed that Israel conducts these alleged investigations in order to prevent international parties and organizations from conducting them.(...)

    http://gonzai.com/le-regard-moderne-une-librairie-sans-fard

  • Palestinian accused of Hebron shooting killed after Israeli forces bombard house

The destroyed house of Muhammad Ali al-Heeh, where Israeli forces killed Muhammad Faqih on July 27, 2016.

HEBRON (Ma’an) — Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man and injured five others in the village of Surif north of Hebron overnight Tuesday, after Israeli soldiers bombarded and destroyed a house he was fortified in, with the Israeli army saying the man was responsible for a deadly drive-by shooting on July 1.

Spokesperson for the Israeli army Avichay Adraee said in a statement in Arabic that Israeli troops exchanged fire with Muhammad Faqih after surrounding the house.

The Israeli soldiers, he said, fired several anti-tank missiles at the house after the “terrorist” started to return fire. A bulldozer from the Israeli army’s engineering corps then demolished the house before Faqih was killed.

It remained unclear by what means Israeli forces ultimately killed Faqih.

Eyewitnesses told Ma’an they saw the body of Faqih in the bucket of an Israeli army bulldozer that pulled him out of the rubble.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that five Palestinians were shot with rubber-coated bullets during clashes in Surif.

Adraee confirmed that a Palestinian woman sustained minor wounds during the military attack and was taken to a hospital for treatment, adding in that a Kalashnikov machine gun and a grenade were found in the house.

Locals said Israeli forces detained four Palestinians from Surif during the raid, identified as Ahmad Ibrahim al-Hur, Diyaa Khalid Ghneimat, and Muhammad Ali al-Heeh — the owner of the demolished house in which Faqih was hiding. Al-Heeh’s mother was also detained.(...)

Two engineering students in Syria’s capital are overcoming the enormous challenges in their war-torn country to launch Daraty, an interactive Arabic toolkit encouraging critical thinking and building skills among children.

“We want to simplify the process of building hardware for children by offering them larger, simpler pieces to work with, along with an interactive app that tracks their progress,” said Daraty cofounder Sana Hawasly.

She and her partner AlHasan Muhammad Ali, both students at the University of Damascus in Syria, have been working on Daraty since 2013. The founders first pitched their startup at Startup Weekend Damascus in 2014 and won the third place prize of $500. Later that year, they joined Syrian incubator ICT.

The first Daraty prototype was intended to be a 20 piece kit of switches, lights, resistors, audio pieces, temperature sensors and other parts. Children assemble the pieces with the guidance of the Daraty app, which includes over 50 assembly combinations in its database. They can create interesting models such as speakers, alarms, traffic lights and even solar-powered gadgets.

    http://archive.jta.org/1974/03/08/archive/ali-belts-zionism

Muhammad Ali, who says he is retiring from the ring to spread the faith of Islam, is losing no time throwing right hooks at Zionism. He told a press conference in Beirut, at the start of a tour of the Middle East, that “the United States is the stronghold of Zionism and imperialism.” On a visit later to two Palestinian refugee camps in southern Lebanon, the former heavy-weight boxing champion was quoted by a guerrilla news agency as saying: “In my name and the name of all Muslims in America, I declare support for the Palestinian struggle to liberate their homeland and oust the Zionist invaders.” Ali told newsmen that after retiring from the ring he will devote his life to preaching the Moslem faith, beginning by establishing a mosque in Las Vegas. Uncharacteristically modest, he added: “I am no longer the greatest. Allah is.”

    • The hidden history of Muhammad Ali
      http://www.isreview.org/issues/33/muhammadali.shtml

Every fight after his name change–like Louis/Schmeling–became incredible morality plays of the Black revolution versus the people who opposed it. Floyd Patterson, a Black ex-champion wrapped tightly in the American flag, said of his fight with Ali, “This fight is a crusade to reclaim the title from the Black Muslims. As a Catholic I am fighting Clay as a patriotic duty. I am going to return the crown to America.” In the fight itself, Ali brutalized Patterson for nine rounds, dragging it out yelling, “Come on America! Come on white America…. What’s my name? Is my name Clay? What’s my name fool?”

      http://www.alex-haley.com/alex_haley_cassius_clay_interview.htm

When I started getting attacked so bad because I am a Muslim, I had to decide, if it would come to me having to give up one or the other, what was most important to me, my religion or my fighting. I made up my mind that I could give up fighting and never look back. Because it’s a whole pile of other ways I could make a living. Me being the world heavyweight champion feels very small and cheap to me when I put that alongside of how millions of my poor black brothers and sisters are having to struggle just to get their human rights here in America.

    • Sufi Boxer Muhammad Ali’s last fight was against Extremism & Politicians’ Islamophobia
      http://www.juancole.com/2016/06/extremism-politicians-islamophobia.html

In 1975, Mr. Ali became a mainstream Sunni Muslim. In 2005 he adopted the mystical, Sufi branch of Islam, under the influence of Hazrat Inayet Khan. Being a Sufi, Mr. Ali rejected hard line puritan Salafi interpretations of Islam, as well as violent extremism.

Last December he issued a statement that some interpreted as a direct response to Donald Trump’s call to ban Muslims. His spokesman, however, denied that the statement was directed at Trump. It obviously was addressing Trump indirectly, though:

“We as Muslims have to stand up to those who use Islam to advance their own personal agenda . . . I am a Muslim and there is nothing Islamic about killing innocent people in Paris, San Bernardino, or anywhere else in the world . . . True Muslims know that the ruthless violence of so called Islamic Jihadists goes against the very tenets of our religion.” “I believe that our political leaders should use their position to bring understanding about the religion of Islam and clarify that these misguided murderers have perverted people’s views on what Islam really is.”

Although a network originally gave it a title suggesting it hit out at Trump, Mr. Ali’s staff were firm that that was the wrong interpretation. He was, they said, attacking those Muslims who distort Islam with violent extremism.

Muhammad Ali, far from being pugilistic with the pugnacious Trump, gently called on all US politicians to distinguish between a fringe of misguided extremists and the actual teachings of Islam, which Mr. Ali saw as uniting humankind in love. In the end, the man who was known for boasting about how hard he could hit demonstrated that he wasn’t interested in childish polemics. He conceded the problem of extremism, but asked for understanding of the mainstream Muslim tradition of 1.5 billion human beings.

So let’s not forget how pretty he was, and how pretty his soul was.

  • Israeli forces kill Palestinian teen in Duheisha camp
    Dec. 8, 2015 8:59 A.M. (Updated: Dec. 8, 2015 11:45 A.M.)
    http://www.maannews.com/Content.aspx?id=769224

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Israeli forces shot dead a 19-year-old Palestinian during a predawn detention raid into Duheisha refugee camp to the south of Bethlehem on Tuesday.

Medics identified the Palestinian as Malik Akram Shahin and said he had been shot in the forehead, where the bullet remained lodged.

Witnesses said he was “left bleeding for long before he was evacuated to the public hospital in Beit Jala, where medics pronounced him dead.”

He was killed when large numbers of Israeli forces stormed Duheisha camp in the early hours of Tuesday, detaining a number of local residents and delivering summons to others.

As the soldiers broke into Palestinians’ homes, they reportedly fired live rounds, tear gas canisters, and stun grenades “indiscriminately” through the camp’s narrow alleys.

An Israeli army spokesperson said that “overnight, a riot broke out” in Duheisha camp, with Palestinians throwing “pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails” at Israeli soldiers.

She said the soldiers fired “warning shots” into the air to disperse them. She had no immediate information on Shahin’s death.

The left-wing Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine later said that Shahin had been one of its supporters. The group said in a statement that he fell “during fierce clashes with Israeli troops who raided the camp to detain young men affiliated to the PFLP.”

The statement added: “The ongoing ugly crimes by the Israeli occupation against our young men who lead clashes at the front line won’t prevent them from escalating the clashes with Israeli occupation soldiers and settlers.”

Locals identified some of the Palestinians detained during the raid as Mustafa Atiyeh al-Hasanat, 20, Muhammad Ali Abu Ajamiyeh, 19, Diyaa Khalil al-Jaafari, 20, and Muhammad Ilias Sarahnah.

Shortly after Shahin was shot dead, dozens of young men rallied in the camp in protest. A Bethlehem committee announced a halt to all business across the district and stores were closed.

At least 113 Palestinians have now been killed in just over two months of unrest across the occupied Palestinian territory.

    • Medics: Bethlehem youth shot dead with illegal ammunition
      Dec. 8, 2015 7:35 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 8, 2015 7:35 P.M.)
      http://www.maannews.com/Content.aspx?id=769247

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Malik Akram Shahin , 19, who was shot dead by Israeli forces in Bethlehem overnight Monday, was killed by an explosive bullet fired at his head, medical sources at the Beit Jala Governmental Hospital told Ma’an.

Medics said the explosive bullet smashed Shahin’s skull, and exploded inside his head, with the bullet and skull fragments shattering into “hundreds of pieces.”

The sources said the positioning of the shot, as well as the type of bullet used, clearly indicates that Israeli forces shot at Shahin with every intention to kill.

The use of explosive bullets, also called expanding bullets or “dum dum” bullets, is illegal under international law, and considered a crime of war under the 1899 Hague Declaration and the International Criminal Court’s Rome Statute, among others.

The bullets are banned due to the brutal damage inflicted on the victim, as the bullets are made to splinter apart and become lodged, instead of making a clean exit through the body.

  • Muhammad Ali – through the eyes of the photographers who know him best

    The unforgettable

Think of a photograph of #Muhammad_Ali besides those pictured above … I suspect there’s a good chance you thought of that wonderful shot of Ali towering over Sonny Liston in the first round of their heavyweight title fight in 1965, where Ali, visibly irate, is beckoning his opponent up from the canvas with a digger-like swing of his right arm. If not, then you doubtless know the photograph I’m talking about: it’s that famous.

If that wasn’t the first image to spring to mind, then maybe it was the shot of him fooling around with the Beatles in his gym, pretending to land one punch that would knock the Fab Four out like dominoes, or the image of him posed serenely underwater, as if conducting a surreal training session at the foot of a swimming pool. Or maybe it was another? There are, after all, myriad unforgettable photographs of Ali in the archives.

Ali, says Neil Leifer, the man who shot that celebrated photograph of him berating Liston, was “a gift” to anyone with a camera. “I have spent over 50 years of my life shooting photographs. I photographed everybody from the Pope to Charles Manson. But there has never been a better subject than Muhammad Ali,” he says.

(...) Source : La Rumeur (...)

  • His Name was Ahed Zaqout: Former Palestinian Soccer Star Killed in Gaza | The Nation

Why the IDF was “defending” itself against Zaqout is a mystery.

    http://www.thenation.com/blog/180870/his-name-was-ahed-zaqout-former-palestinian-soccer-star-killed-gaza

He was no Muhammad Ali, using sports to advance any kind of political cause. He was that most conventional and familiar of person in sports: the ex-star jock turned broadcaster. But in Gaza, what we may see as conventional can become political. Zaqout was someone whose voice, sharp wit, and trenchant analysis was a source of joy and escape for a people under constant siege. Providing escape to the trapped of Gaza was in and of itself a political act.

  • 20 killed since midnight, Israeli forces ’massacre 12’ in Gaza City | Maan News Agency Published today | 09:23
    http://www.maannews.net/eng/ViewDetails.aspx?ID=714592

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – On the 13th day of the ongoing military offensive against the Gaza Strip, residents say invading Israeli forces committed “a new massacre” in the Shujaiyya neighborhood of Gaza City.

At least 12 people have been killed and more than 150 have been injured in the eastern neighborhood, medics said Sunday. The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are uncovered.

Palestinian medical sources in al-Shifa Hospital told Ma’an that the hospital was unable to cope with the large numbers of residents who fled their homes in Shujaiyya “under fire” to the hospital for shelter. They highlighted that Sunday’s death toll hit 20 since midnight.

Ashraf al-Qidra, a spokesman of the Palestinian ministry of health, said that among Shujaiyya’s victims were family members of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya. He identified them as Osamah Khalil al-Hayya, his wife Halah and his sons Khalil and Umamah.

Al-Qidra highlighted that the last few hours were the “fiercest” against Palestinian houses. Residents, he said, have been appealing for help since midnight saying that large numbers of people have been killed or injured in the houses as shells continued to hit them from all directions.

Al-Qidra highlighted that Israeli forces denied ambulances access to attacked houses to evacuate victims despite the uninterrupted efforts to coordinate through the International Committee of the Red Cross.

“The Israeli occupation forces told the Red Cross Committee that Shujaiyya was a closed zone because of military operations,” the medical official explained.

As a result, added al-Qidra, Palestinian ambulance teams decided to take the risk and access victims despite the Israeli military orders.

Among the victims in Shujaiyya, according to al-Qidra, were teenage girl 14-year-old Hiba Hamid Sheikh Khalil and 38-year-old Muhammad Ali Jundiyya .

Three unidentified bodies were also received at al-Shifa Hospital Sunday morning.

Earlier, the body of 52-year-old Tawfiq Marshoud was evacuated.

In Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, medical sources said three Palestinians were killed Sunday morning. Al-Qidra identified them as 23-year-old Hamid Abu Fuju, 26-year-old Ahmad Zanoun and 21-year-old Suhayb Abu Qurah .

In addition, an Israeli airstrike on house of the Muammar family killed three brothers. Medical sources said Anas Yousif Muammar died of his wounds shortly after his brothers Muhamamd, 30, and Hamzah, 21, were killed in al-Juneina neighborhood of Rafah. Ten others were injured in the attack.

Also in Rafah, al-Qidra said 56-year-old Husni Mahmoud al-Absi was killed by an Israeli raid which injured five others.

Fahmi Abdul-Aziz Abu al-Said , 29, was also killed Sunday in the central Gaza Strip.

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – On the 13th day of the ongoing military offensive against the Gaza Strip, residents say invading Israeli forces committed “a new massacre” in the Shujaiyya neighborhood of Gaza City.

At least 40 people have been killed and hundreds have been injured in the eastern neighborhood, medics said Sunday. The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are uncovered.

Medical sources said seven Palestinians were killed in other areas across the coastal enclave.

Spokesman of the Palestinian ministry of health Ashraf al-Qidra said rescue teams evacuated 44 dead bodies from destroyed houses. More than 200 injured people were taken to al-Shifa Hospital.

Medical sources identified some of the victims in Shujaiyya as Ahmad Ishaq Ramlawi , Marwah Suleiman al-Sirsawi , Raed Mansour Nayfah, Osama Ribhi Ayyad and Ahid Mousa al-Sirsik.

Among the victims was photojournalist Khalid Hamid and paramedic Fuad Jabir .

    • 100 Palestinians killed in Israeli assault on Sunday alone
      http://www.maannews.net/eng/ViewDetails.aspx?ID=714820
      Published today (updated) 20/07/2014 21:45

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) — Israeli forces killed at least 100 Palestinians on Sunday including 66 in a single neighborhood of Gaza City, bringing the 13-day death toll to 437.

The assault on Gaza — which has also left 18 Israels dead — is the largest and deadliest attack on the besieged coastal enclave since 2008. More than 200 Palestinians have died since the ground invasion began on Thursday.

On Sunday, 66 bodies were recovered from the Shujaiyya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, in what medical authorities called a “massacre” and a level of violence not seen before in the ongoing conflict.

At least 500 Palestinians were injured in Israeli attacks on Wednesday, with the total surpassing 3,000 as Gazan hospitals struggled to cope with the surge and facing shortages of medical supplies, doctors, and hospital beds.

Shelling and airstrikes resume Sunday afternoon

On Sunday afternoon, Israeli shelling fully resumed after a four-hour humanitarian ceasefire that it violated numerous times, and dozens more had been killed in the Gaza Strip as a result.

Rayan Taysir Abu Jami , 8, and an elderly woman named Fatima Mahmoud Abu Jami were killed and three injured in an air strike on Khan Younis on Sunday evening, according to Palestinian Ministry of Health spokesman in Gaza Ashraf al-Qidra.

Eight Palestinians were also killed in Israeli air strike on house in al-Ramal.

The dead were named by Al-Qidra as Samar Osama al-Hallaq,29, Kinan Akram al-Hallaq, 5, Hani Mohammad al-Hallaq,29, Suad Mohammad al-Hallaq, 62, Saji al-Hallaq, Ibrahim Khalil Omar, Ahmad Yassin, and an 8th person, who was unnamed.

A man and woman , meanwhile, were killed in a strike on the Atatra house in Beit Lahiya.

Medical sources said Ahmad Abu Tayim , 27, died of injuries sustained on an airstrike on al-Zana are of Khan Yunis.

Aya Abu Sultan , 15, was killed in a strike on her house northern Gaza Strip.

Another man was killed, while four were injured in another strike on Gaza City earlier in the afternoon.

Palestinian medical sources also said that a child identified as Suleiman Abu Jami was killed in an Israeli raid on Khan Younis in the south.

Five other people were injured in Beit Hanoun in the north.

In the central Gaza Strip, Israeli airstrikes in the afternoon killed four members of Abu Zayid family in al-Bureij refugee camp after destroying their home over their heads.

Medical sources also said Suleiman Abu Jami was killed in Bani Suheila in Khan Younis. Four others were injured in the same raid including one critically injured.

Al-Qidra said earlier that an elderly woman Najah Saad Addin Darraji , 65, and a 3-year-old boy Abdullah Yousif Darraji were killed in Rafah.

So on a night nearly 43 years ago, while Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier bludgeoned each other over 15 rounds in a televised title bout viewed by millions around the world, burglars took a lock pick and a crowbar and broke into a Federal Bureau of Investigation office in a suburb of Philadelphia, making off with nearly every document inside. They were never caught (...)

IMPORTANT: DEIR BALBEH APRIL MASSACRE UNCOVERED
    Location: Deir Balbeh, #Homs
    Massacre: April 2012

These are martyrs, not just numbers, each one is a life, a human being.

The massacre in Deir Balbeh came at the same time as the Annan initiative came into place at the start of April 2012. The details of the massacre remain unknown as all communication to the area was cut during the regime execution operation. The neighborhood was besieged at the start of April in a similar way to when the Karam Alzaytoon, Aladaweye and Alrifai’i neighborhood massacres took place, the only difference this time was the geographical position. This time, the massacre was in Deir Balbeh which is made of 3 neighborhoods: Alkasara, the southern neighborhood and the northern neighborhood.

The massacre took place across all 3 neighborhoods and it was evident the following took place: Homes were stormed, execution in different ways and burning of some bodies with properties stolen.

Activists who managed to enter the areas in Deir Balbeh days after the massacre took place could smell the death bodies that had began to rot as the horrors in the neighborhood began to uncover slowly. Homes were evidently stormed and families executed inside. Dozens of people were arrested in mass groups and executed together. Most of the time, the bodies had been burnt after execution and severely mutilated with many heads having been cut off. The bodies were buried in shallow graves [mass graves] thus were easily recovered by activists.

The bodies of women were found - some reported to have been raped according to activists and others with extremities cut off, likely for their gold on hands.

The documented number of dead is at 199 at minimum with dozens still unidentified as some are burnt and others severely deformed. The names are below.

From the 199 are 21 children and 20 women - victims of brutal execution campaigns led by the regime.

    – These are some videos documenting the bodies:
