Evasive action: How The Pirate Bay four dodged Swedish justice—for a while | Ars Technica

Evasive action: How The Pirate Bay four dodged Swedish justice—for a while. The site’s founders have moved out of Sweden, but Stockholm wants them back.
Of the four, Peter Sunde has been the most outspoken about the case. That’s probably because between August 2005 and August 2009 he was the spokesperson for The Pirate Bay. Both on his lawyer’s appeal to the European Court of Human Rights and on his own website, he declares his “home base” to be in Berlin. Last month, Sunde wrote to Ars saying that he was in Sweden “for the moment,” but prosecutors haven’t kept close tabs on him.

damages to the entertainment industries, including €550,000 to several major music labels. The court awarded the damages to compensate artists and rightsholders for their losses. However, it now turns out that artists won’t see a penny of the money, as the labels have allocated it to IFPI to fund new anti-piracy campaigns.
Peter Sunde, The Pirate Bay Spokesperson, Details Why His Conviction Was A Farce | Techdirt

Peter notes that the prosecution has effectively admitted that he didn’t actually do the stuff he was convicted of, but claims that doesn’t change his responsibility. Seriously. Here’s the rough automated translation:
That the work of the Court of Appeal found Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi begun in late 2005 may not have resulted in actual service until the time of the raid against TPB, does not affect the responsibility of the act for which Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi convicted.
In other words, he didn’t provide the actual services he was convicted of, but that doesn’t make him any less responsible for the things he didn’t actually do. Swedish justice in action.

Cable Reveals Extent Of Lapdoggery From Swedish Govt On Copyright Monopoly - Falkvinge on Infopolicy
http://falkvinge.net/2011/09/05/cable-reveals-extent-of-lapdoggery-from-swedish-govt-on-copyright-monopol
Among the treasure troves of recently released #WikiLeaks cables, we find one whose significance has bypassed Swedish media. In short: every law proposal, every ordinance, and every governmental report hostile to the net, youth, and civil liberties here in Sweden in recent years have been commissioned by the US government and industry interests.
At the middle of this, we find the US cable Stockholm 09-141, recommending Sweden to not be blacklisted by the US on the so-called Special 301 list, and outlines why. The Special 301 is a list that the United States compiles every year that names and shames countries that haven’t been friendly enough to American industries. [...] So there it is. All in black and white, in excruciating and incriminating detail. All the attacks on civil liberties and dismantlements of rights in Sweden, rights that have been and should be taken for granted, have been a demand from American trade interests. And these attacks continue to this date.

Hardline. Kopimi.

The Stockholm District Court sentence against Pirate Bay founder Gottfrid Svartholm was finalized today after he failed to appear at the Court of Appeal. Svartholm, also known as Anakata online, did not appear at the appeal trial last year because he was hospitalized in Cambodia and later went missing. The Court of Appeal has now decided to finalize the initial verdict of one year jail time and a fine of $1.1 million.
