As Aoun and Geagea were using their new alliance to blame the Muslim ally of their new Christian ally for not supporting their new Christian candidate (sorry for that complicated sentence), Sami Gemayel was micro-maneuvering in the last ten days in April by finally naming five presidential candidates – The Kataeb have long been crticized for standing in the way of all of the mainstream candidacies without providing an alternative. Curiously, and among the five candidates, you’ll find the name of Michel Aoun’s son-in-law. Yeah, not Gebran Bassil, the son-in-law currently in charge of the FPM, but the other one, Chamel Roukoz, whose popularity is a big threat on the FPM’s new number 1. By embracing the candidacy of the son-in-law of one of the two most popular candidates, that happens not to be the son-in-law leading the party, and also happens to be the son-in-law who is a retired general – apparently 18 years of generals in Baabda aren’t enough, the Kataeb are trying to turn the Aounists on one another.

Et là, le fils d’Amine Gemayel annonce « le lancement de "l’observatoire libanais de la corruption" ». C’est bien pratique : ils ont justement un expert à disposition (et pas cher avec ça, on n’a qu’à dire 20% du chiffre d’affaire).

Le chef du parti des « Kataeb », le député Sami Gemayel, a annoncé, ce mardi, dans une conférence de presse tenue lors du lancement de « l’observatoire libanais de la corruption », que « le dossier de la corruption au Liban est un dossier essentiel qu’il faut ouvrir pour l’édification de l’Etat », assurant que « le peuple libanais s’appauvrit et une partie d’entre lui s’enrichit au dépend du citoyen sans surveillance aucune ».

Le Courant du Futur refait mai 2008, un coup de force politique pas du tout improvisé, Siniora à la manœuvre, avec risque d’escalade grave – mais une chose est certaine, le 14 Mars va à nouveau se poser en victime (politique de l’« humiliation » feinte).

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun has reportedly criticized Defense Minister Samir Moqbel’s abrupt decision to keep the country’s top Army generals in their posts, while his movement threatened to take escalatory steps against the decision.

FPM sources said in comments published Thursday by Al-Akhbar newspaper that the bloc had no prior knowledge that Moqbel intended to extend the generals’ terms “because [chances] of reaching a deal and amending the Defense Law were still being debated.”

The sources warned that the FPM would carry out a “major escalation” against the extension, adding that Aoun will not back down although they did not elaborate on what type of escalatory steps they would take.

Seven soldiers and 17 protesters were wounded near the Grand Serail in Downtown Beirut last month in a scuffle between the Lebanese Army and FPM supporters protesting the government ignoring the FPM’s demand to prioritize the issue of security and military appointments.

Aoun has been pressing the government to appoint new military and security chiefs. He was also lobbying for his son-in-law Brig. Gen. Shamel Roukoz to be appointed Army commander.

Al-Akhbar quoted high-ranking Future Movement sources as saying that the current regional and international political situation does not allow Aoun to have any share in the Army nor in the presidency, and instead seek to diminish his political weight.

The sources added that the Future Movement has proceeded with the decision after a flurry of contacts Wednesday with MP Walid Jumblatt, former President Michel Sleiman, MP Sami Gemayel, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

The decision also came after a Future Movement meeting was held following Wednesday’s Cabinet session and before the Hezbollah-Future talks at Berri’s Ain al-Tineh residence, according to the report. The meeting was attended by Future bloc head Fouad Siniora, Deputy Prime Minister Farid Makari and former MP Ghattas Khoury.

Le chef du Kataeb, Sami Gemayel, a reçu, ce mardi, au siège du parti à Saifi, le ministre des Affaires étrangères et des émigrés, Gebran Bassil.

Ce dernier a tenu à féliciter le nouveau chef du Kataeb pour son poste et les discussions ont ensuite porté sur les derniers développements et sur l’importance de trouver des solutions à la crise gouvernementale.

Kataeb party MP Sami Gemayel proposed moving the ownership of Lebanon’s electricity sector to private companies as the “sole” solution for the contentious ranks and salaries system.

“The privatization of the [electricity] sector is the only way to fund the system and not plunge the country into deficit,” Gemayel said on Wednesday during a press conference held in Beirut’s Saifi area.

L’idée que l’on puisse privatiser EDL, cad vendre l’entreprise par morceaux, paraît assez abracadabrante (et surtout en tirer des milliards de $). En réalité, ici, on ne peut parler que de son parc de centrales électriques puisque la distribution est déjà « privatisée » (en fait plutôt sous traitée, il n’y a aucune cession d’actifs publics), et que le transport, par nature, ne peut l’être.
Dans le parc électrique existant, certaines unités sont plus récentes que d’autres et pourraient être vendues. Mais je crois qu’il y a ici une totale méprise - comme je ne crois pas que ce soit le cas, je suppose qu’il y a d’autres bénéfices potentiels cachés (plutôt l’octroi de licences de production comme je le disais dans l’autre commentaire).

Attention, le nouvel « élément de langage » adopté par le 14 Mars aujourd’hui prépare déjà la prochaine étape de la catastrophe libanaise (c’est la grande qualité de ces gens-là : ils sont toujours en avance d’une bassesse).

À cette heure, Saniora, Geagea, le fils Mouawad et Mohammed Kabbara, Sami Gemayel, au moins, ont déjà expliqué publiquement qu’ils soutenaient l’armée dans le désarmement des milices de Assir, en ajoutant systématiquement que cela devrait ouvrir la voie au désarmement du Hezbollah. Outre l’équivalence parfaitement artificielle entre les armes de la Résistance et des groupuscules salafistes, il y a un aspect bien plus dangereux : tout le monde sait bien que l’armée, même si cela était légitime, et même si elle le voulait, ne pourra jamais désarmer le Hezbollah par la force.

De ce fait, le 14 Mars est déjà en train de démarrer, à mots à peine couverts, une nouvelle campagne de délégitimisation de l’armée libanaise. Et tu entendras bientôt à nouveau les sous-entendus lourdingues sur la connivence entre l’armée et le Hezbollah, sur l’influence des chiites sur l’armée… comme si c’était une question confessionnelle.

Note bien que rigoureusement personne au 14 Mars n’annonce que ce sont les FSI qui devraient désarmer le Hezbollah. Pourquoi ? Ça ne fait pas partie des éléments de langage du jour ?
