في وقت يسعى الاتحاد الأوروبي خلال مباحثاته لإنشاء دولة فلسطينية على أساس أنها السبيل الوحيد الموثوق لتحقيق السلام في الشرق الأوسط، فوجئ المشاركون باقتراح إسرائيل بناء جزيرة للفلسطينيين في عرض البحر الأبيض المتوسط.
وكان الاتحاد الأوروبي أعرب فعلا عن قلقه إزاء الرفض الواضح لرئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو لفكرة إنشاء الدولة الفلسطينية سابقا.
وبحسب المعلومات فإن وزير الخارجية الاسرائيلي يسرائيل كاتس تجاهل المقاربة الأوروبية التي شرحها عدد من الوزراء في جلسة تحولت إلى مشهد سريالي.
ولم تتردد اسرائيل بعرض مقترحها بناء جزيرة في عرض البحر الأبيض حيث ينقل إليها سكان قطاع غزة، في موقف أثار استغرابا واسعا في القاعة وانتقادات من دول عدة منها بلجيكا والبرتغال.

Et en même temps, pourquoi pas plutôt creuser un gros fossé genre douves à la place de leur mur ? Ça ferait une île pour moins cher :-)

The Israeli foreign minister, Israel Katz, has suggested that Palestinians could be housed on an artificial island in the Mediterranean, according to sources at the meeting of EU ministers in Brussels.

It is understood that Katz presented a video on the concept to the 27 EU foreign ministers as an alternative to the two-state solution. He told them the video referred to a plan made some years ago when he was a transport minister.

Katz had previously raised the idea of an offshore port island, although that was not part of a plan to rehouse Palestinians. Israel’s government has not backed such a plan.

The intervention has caused dismay in Brussels where the EU representatives were meeting as part of a mission to lay the ground for a “comprehensive peace plan”.

Je suis un peu bête. Il est bien évident que la matière première de cette île potentielle est là sous nos yeux et sous les pieds de l’armée israélienne : ce sont les déblais des bâtiments qu’ils détruisent depuis 4 mois... Je me demandais justement ce qu’ils allaient en faire, et d’ailleurs ce qu’ils ont fait des déblais et ruines des précédentes phases de destruction...
