Something crazy is happening in the name of so-called “antisemitism.” Jewish students protesting war built succot—outdoor temporary shrines where the Torah commands Jews pray during the harvest festival—and colleges, citing new rules against protest encampments, felled them.
Contexte (voir photo) :
The harassment at Cal was so extreme. From the moment students erected the sukkah they were swarmed with degrading admin and cops. They were asked to move aside from a central walkway—and they did so—and they were still harassed for the next 12 hours before cops and campus security dismantled and trashed the sukkah. What this says, to me, is that the campus is principally and consistently policed as a Zionist space . When there is anti-Zionism, it is subject to ridicule, dismissiveness, insult, punishment. And perhaps most revealing, in this case, the voices who constantly cry
wolf about antisemitism and the “comfort” and “safety” of Jewish students (at Berkeley that’s Chemerinsky, Hassner, Katz among others) are literally nowhere to be found.
