The iPhone maker looks to stage a comeback in digital assistants and artificial intelligence.

Apple Inc.’s much-anticipated Siri overhaul is set to become the centerpiece of its next iPhone, iPad and Mac software updates — and Bloomberg News is offering the first peek at what the new digital assistant will look like.

Illustrations created by Bloomberg show the revamped Siri interface, a new chatbot-style app and other major iOS 27 changes that the company plans to announce at its June 8 Worldwide Developers Conference. The images are based on information viewed by Bloomberg and people with knowledge of the company’s plans who asked not to be identified because the software isn’t yet public.

Apple’s Siri Overhaul Aims for On-Device Brains
Turns out Siri’s been hitting the virtual gym for a serious AI glow-up ahead of Apple’s June 8 WWDC.

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 is expected to debut a rebuilt Siri that springs from the Dynamic Island and doubles as a ChatGPT-style app, according to a hefty Bloomberg leak. The assistant rides a distilled dose of Google Gemini, launches with a universal “Search or Ask” swipe, and juggles voice or text queries while scanning on-device data for context.

But Cupertino isn’t stopping at chatter. A dedicated Siri capture mode lands in the Camera app, while Photos builds on its Clean Up tool with new AI tricks dubbed Reframe and Extend to shift perspectives or fill in missing scenery (think Adobe’s AI photo magic without the subscription guilt).

Power users can reshuffle camera widgets for pro-level controls, and a revamped Shortcuts promises automations built from plain English instead of flow-chart drudgery.

Apple will pitch all this as a privacy win: Gemini-trained models run locally on Apple silicon, with the cloud reserved only for heavyweight tasks. Crucially, those heavy tasks will reportedly run on Google Cloud using Nvidia AI chips, an unexpected pivot from Apple’s previously exclusive Private Cloud Compute hardware.

The lingering question: will the smarter Siri finally quit elbowing into conversations uninvited, or is that still on my wish list?

Why it matters: If successful, on-device AI could help Apple leapfrog rivals by making private, latency-free assistance the default—and push millions of fence-sitters to actually use Siri again. For businesses, it’s a reminder that local inference isn’t a nicety; it’s the next battleground for speed, cost, and trust.
