103 House Democrats Vote to Cut U.S. Aid to Israel in Landmark Symbolic Vote

103 House Democrats – including some of Israel’s staunchest supporters – voted for an amendment to an appropriations bill to halt U.S. assistance to Israel on Wednesday. Though the amendment failed, the vote is a landmark moment that shows how far-gone Israel’s standing among the Democratic Party currently rests.
The amendment to this year’s National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (or the NSRP) appropriations bill, was sponsored by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ken.), and was seen as a Republican-set trap for Democrats to explicitly vote against U.S.-Israel ties.
For dozens of Democrats it marked an opportunity to voice displeasure on the House floor with Israel’s far-right government and its destabilizing efforts in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon and the greater Middle East.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Wednesday that Israel is “losing the battle” for public opinion in the United States, while discussing reports of an Israeli influence campaign targeting conservative Americans and the Trump administration’s Iran policy.
In an interview on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Vance said he had been unfairly accused of antisemitism for calling for a more candid relationship between Washington and Jerusalem when their interests do not fully align.
“People have come after me saying I’m influenced by Qatar. That I’m influenced by foreign governments, that I take my marching orders from Tucker Carlson. There’s just so much bullshit out there,” Vance said.
Vance said he did not object to Israel or other governments attempting to influence U.S. policy, but criticized what he described as efforts to shape American leaders’ views.
“I don’t mind that certain elements of the Israeli government want to criticize the deal or have disagreements,” he said. “I don’t even mind an effort to try and influence – Israel does it, other governments do it, it’s the nature of the beast. What bothers me is when American leadership allows that influence to affect their judgment.”
He added, “When I see there’s a literal foreign influence campaign being funded to take the very deal I was pursuing, and many of the people receiving that money were attacking me in dishonest ways. My response is ’go to hell.’”
Vance was responding to reports about an Israeli influence campaign aimed at MAGA supporters, including claims that the effort sought to counter growing skepticism toward Israel among parts of the American right. (...)
