A fascinating op-ed in the biggest news website in Israel Yent, by Amir Etinger. He argues that the anti-Netanyahu bloc is weakened by the presence of Yair Golan and the Democrats because he supports a Palestinian state.

The premise is that 10% of the public remains undecided and many of them come specifically from the religious-Zionist sector. The fact that Golan does not envision permanent apartheid could prevent them from winning.

There is a dilemma, he says. On one hand, a government without the ultra-Orthodox is appealing to undecided voters. On the other hand, Golan wants to actively pursue Palestinian statehood and separation measures. That will pull undecided voters back into Netanyahu’s arms.

Even the presence of one party that thinks Palestinians deserve a state is enough to derail the entire camp in his view.

Fuites provenant du prétendu parti sioniste le plus à gauche, les Démocrates. Lors d’une réunion interne là-bas, Gaby Lasky, qui occupe la sixième place sur la liste, s’est plainte que le chef du parti, Yair Golan, insistait pour appeler la Cisjordanie « Judée et Samarie ». Golan a répondu que ce n’est « pas un terme de droite » et a insisté pour continuer à l’appeler ainsi. Voilà la gauche israélienne, utilisant une terminologie biblique pour revendiquer un droit divin à occuper la Palestine.
