The demands surrounding this airport, which is located in Akkar, North Lebanon, are not new, but they have come resurfaced in a strong manner recently. These demands can be situated in a “sectarian” context – to build airports away from “Hezbollah’s dominance,” and by extension, the Shia. Today, some speak openly in this vein.

A “Sunni” airport in Klayaat is wanted to counter the “Shia” airport in Beirut. But what about other religious communities? Do some not want an airport for Christians as well, like the one that existed in Halat, Mount Lebanon, during the civil war?

J’ai effectivement vu passer ce genre de bêtises sur Facebook récemment.
