Protesters took to the streets in three cities on Friday to voice their rejection of rising fuel prices and a plan to increase electricity rates next year.
In a protest led by the Islamist movement in Irbid, around 80km north of Amman, some 400 activists called for the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour for what they described as “failed economic policies”, accusing officials of “strangling” citizens with a series of unpopular austerity measures.
