The technical research concerning the project to create an artificial waterway to connect the Black Sea with the Marmara Sea, called the Kanal İstanbul project, is in progress, and the government is expected to announce its exact location shortly.
Yet for experts, who are monitoring the developments closely, the route of the project has already been decided and the indicators are all pointing to the option that spans from Küçükçekmece to the Black Sea through Karaburun. The length of the project, which is estimated to cost about $20 billion, will likely be 45 kilometers. Yet speculation around the land within the possible route of the project is rife, leading the price of this land to shoot up dramatically.
