A new book on Iceland’s volcanoes says the lessons of history show it’s not a case of if but when there will be another major eruption − and argues that climate change is making them more active
LONDON, 17 May – Iceland names its commercial aircraft after its volcanoes – ironic, given that ash blown into the atmosphere by the 2010 eruption of the country’s Eyjafjallajökull volcano resulted in much of Europe’s airspace being closed for days, with 100,000 flights cancelled and ten million passengers stranded.
