Manama: Kuwait Transparency Society’s board of directors has been dissolved amid accusations that it had drifted away from the purposes of the society’s establishment.

Minister of Social Affairs and Labour and State Minister for Planning and Development Hind Al Subaih said the society interfered in political issues and joined international organizations without the approval of the state.

The board chairman had posted tweets deemed offensive to the parliament and to lawmakers, the minister said in a brief statement on Wednesday.

“The Ministry of Social Affairs had launched an investigation regarding the claims made by the society chairman at a press conference and tweets that insulted the parliament and lawmakers,” the minister said. “The ministry also talked with former board members who had resigned. The investigation after listening to testimonies and taking note of the documents presented to the investigators concluded that the board had drifted away from the society’s goals and internal bylaws. The board also had several violations, including the provisions of Article Six of Law 24 /1962,” the minister said.
