  • Network Impacts of HTTPS Transport Encryption

A very good (and technical) presentation of #HTTPS/#TLS/#SSL and its impact on network traffic, and reasons for breaking the encryption.
This is a presentation from Cisco Live 2015 in Milan.

Transport encryption, such as HTTPS, reduces network traffic visibility. This has a negative impact on network features such as QoS and security, which means applications can’t be identified and prioritized and means malware can’t be detected and blocked. This talk discusses those impacts and explains how visibility can be regained with TLS proxies and, in the future, with new protocols and new approaches that improve on today’s state of the art. This presentation contains no product-specific information, and is not a “how to” presentation.

    • Background on how network security is performed on plain-text traffic
    • Why network traffic is moving towards more encryption
    • Decryption using TLS proxies
    • Future protocols and solutions
