BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — A 17-year-old Palestinian teenager was shot and killed by Israeli forces after an alleged stabbing attempt at a checkpoint north of Bethlehem on Sunday, official Palestinian sources said.
The Palestinian ministry of health identified the teenager as Naim Ahmad Yousif Safi from the town of al-Ubediya east of Bethlehem.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Ma’an earlier that a young Palestinian man approached the Mazmoria checkpoint near the illegal settlement of Har Homa and took out a knife.
Israeli soldiers shot the man, whose condition was now “unknown,” Rosenfeld said.
However, Israeli media were quoting Israeli security sources as saying that the Palestinian man had been killed.
No Israeli soldiers were injured, Rosenfeld said, adding that Israeli security forces had closed off the area.
