Mstislav Dobuzhinsky belonged to the magnificent cluster of artists which formed around the ‘World of Art’ society at the turn of the century. As a graphic artist and theatrical designer, Dobuzhinsky was one of the most important members of the group.
He was born in Novgorod. His father was an artillery officer, later a general, and his mother — a graduate of the St. Petersburg Conservatoire — was an opera singer in provincial theatres.
