Iz rijeke Mrežnice izvučena tijela dvojice muškaraca, po svemu sudeći radi se o migrantima

Policijski službenici su iz rijeke Mrežnice na području Donjih Dubrava, koje se nalaze u sastavu grada Ogulina, izvukli dva tijela nepoznatih muških osoba, javili su iz PU karlovačke.

Slijedi istraga i postupak utvrđivanja njihova identiteta, no po svemu sudeći i u ovom slučaju radi se o tijelima migranata. Samo u lipnju s migrantske rute iz Mrežnice izvučeno je šest leševa utopljenika.

Dva mrtva tijela izvučena su također u subotu, 13. lipnja, iz rijeke Mrežnice u mjestu Svojić na području općine Barilović. Karlovačka policija tad je javila da su oko podneva njihovi kolege koji rade na poslovima zaštite državne granice zatekli strane državljane koji su im rekli da su se na slapovima Mrežnice utopile dvije osobe. HGSS-ovci su ih izvukli u večernjim satima.

Istoga tjedna, u ponedjeljak, također su iz Mrežnice na području općine Barilović izvučena dva utopljenika. Radilo se o migrantima koji su u vodi proveli duže vrijeme prije nego ih je netko pronašao.

U posljednje tri godine, ne računajući ove slučajeve, na migrantskoj ruti smrtno je stradalo 25 migranata, a isto toliko ih je teško ozlijeđeno. Po načinu stradavanja prevladava utapljanje u rijekama. Otprilike jedno tijelo isplivalo je u nekoj od rijeka mjesečno, a samo Mrežnica ih je u lipnju izbacila šest.

The number of people who die on the Balkan Route will never be fully known. For instance, the bodies of people who drown often disappear into rivers along the route, forming a hidden list of fatalities. This senseless human cost comes as a direct result of the covert routes groups are forced to take in order to avoid the Croatian police. The death and disappear-ance of these people is therefore the responsibility of the EU, and the system of violence that leaves them no option but to ford deep rivers, or cross mountain passes and live train tracks to avoid illegal pushbacks.

The Mrežnice and Korana are located in mid Croatia, marking the halfway point for those travelling from BiH to Slovenia. People taken fatally by their courses in June are a telling exam-ple of the reflexive way migration policy has weaponised the whole breadth of national interiors, bringing the border into the operation of everyday life. This borderisation of interiors can be seen across the experience of transit communities. It is overt in the way that police stations all over Croatia falsify records in order to pushback transit groups as if they had never entered the territory (▻https://dnevnik.hr/vijesti/hrvatska/policajci-koji-svakodnevno-hvataju-migrante---579511.html). Likewise, one can also observe it in the way linguistic borders are constructed by the abuse of translation services in custody (▻https://www.borderviolence.eu/violence-reports/july-23-2019-2200-train-station-in-frankovci-slovenia), or the way racial profiling (▻https://balkaninsight.com/2019/12/04/croatian-police-deny-expelling-nigerian-students-to-bosnia) guides the apprehension of people in towns and cities.

Rivers are perhaps the starkest example. Fearful of being spot-ted while using bridges, groups continually have to risk their lives to cross fast flowing and cold rivers. People often drown, either unable to swim or brought into shock by the temperature of the water. Like the fatalities in Croatia’s interior, these deaths remain entirely avoidable, but are part of a border system which puts undocumented per-sons in a terminally precarious state.
