18.04.2022 In the Evros region - 37 people stranded on an islet in the river of Evros close to Didymoteicho.
Among them, there are several sick people and one person has passed out. The situation is alarming: it is cold, rainy and the group ran out of food. Rescue is urgently needed!
The people just informed us about movement on the islet. They reported a boat from the #Greek side has arrived & commandos attacked them. Already last week another group has been brutally pushed back in a similar situation. This must stop!
The group had to spend the night on the islet. They are still suffering cold, fatigue & hunger. They wrote: “We have a sick child. He needs ambulances. The child will die.” Plus in the night they reported shots from the Turkish side. Stop this madness & get them off the islet!
The group reports again movement on the #Greek side. On videos shared with us we can see small boats driving towards them. We hope these boats come for rescue and not for another attack. Get them off the islet, bring them to safety now!
The group are still stranded on the islet & report that they hear voices on the Greek river bank. A woman needs dialysis treatment urgently! A border guard at the Didymoteicho station claimed during a phone call that they do not have any knowledge of the distress even though 1/2
...Alarm Phone alerted Greek authorities more than a day ago and, according to videos sent by the group, they have been located and addressed to several times by men arriving from the Greek river bank. 2/2
20.04.2022: This group is still on the islet and the situation gets worse! They report that the water level of the Evros river is growing and water is entering the islet. They need to be brought off the islet - don’t put their lives at risk, rescue them now!!
