Are Stone Piles the Future of China’s Overcrowded Cities? - Metropolis 2.0 - Curbed National

..."monolithic pebbles superimposed on each other along a vertical central boulevard." These six stacks—which look an awful lot like the nutso pile of architecture slated to rise in Indonesia—comprise a jumble of residences, offices, leisure spaces, gardens, and greenhouses, all of which will tower above public orchards and agricultural fields. Each piece of the complex—designed to look like those piles of rocks that mark hiking paths—is encased in solar panels and windfarms, purportedly producing more energy than it consumes...

A peaceful path to real reform.
On the Legacy of Hugo Chávez | The Nation
▻http://www.thenation.com/article/173212/legacy-hugo-chavez#
By 2005, Chávez had weathered the storm and was in control of the nation’s oil, allowing him to embark on an ambitious program of domestic and international transformation: massive social spending at home and “poly-polar equilibrium” abroad, a riff on what Bolívar once called “universal equilibrium,” an effort to break up the US’s historical monopoly of power in Latin America and force Washington to compete for influence.
*
Over the last fourteen years, Chávez has submitted himself and his agenda to fourteen national votes, winning thirteen of them by large margins, in polling deemed by Jimmy Carter to be “best in the world” out of the ninety-two elections that he has monitored...
after the last presidential ballot—which Chávez won with the same percentage he did his first election yet with a greatly expanded electorate—even his opponents have admitted, despairingly, that a majority of Venezuelans liked, if not adored, the man.
What really happened in Gaza 14-22 November 2012 by Owen Jones
On BBC’s Question Time on 22.11.12, journalist Owen Jones described the reality— largely ignored by the mainstream media — of Israel’s brutal attack on Gaza, 14-22 November 2012, that left close to 160 killed, over 30 of them children.

Is Gideon Levy the most hated man in Israel or just the most heroic? - Middle East - World - The Independent

“My biggest struggle,” he says, “is to rehumanize the Palestinians. There’s a whole machinery of brainwashing in Israel which really accompanies each of us from early childhood, and I’m a product of this machinery as much as anyone else. [We are taught] a few narratives that it’s very hard to break. That we Israelis are the ultimate and only victims. That the Palestinians are born to kill, and their hatred is irrational. That the Palestinians are not human beings like us… So you get a society without any moral doubts, without any questions marks, with hardly public debate. To raise your voice against all this is very hard.”
A.G. Schneiderman Sues JPMorgan For Fraudulent Residential Mortgage-backed Securities Issued By Bear Stearns | Eric T. Schneiderman

“This lawsuit will bring accountability for the misconduct that led to the crash of the housing market and the collapse of the American economy,” said Attorney General Schneiderman. “Our lawsuit demonstrates that there is one set of rules for all – no matter how big or powerful the institution may be – and that those rules will be enforced vigorously. We believe that this is a workable template for future actions against issuers of residential mortgage-backed securities that defrauded investors and cost millions of Americans their homes. We need real accountability for the illegal and deceptive conduct in the creation of the housing bubble in order to bring justice for New York’s homeowners and investors.”

Project brief: This is the story of the most powerful army in the Middle East chasing 18 cows. In 1987, a group of Palestinian activists started a co-operative dairy farm in Beit Sahour with 18 cows. The people in the Bethlehem area came to depend completely on the co-op’s milk, which they called the ’intifada milk’. However, once the co-op became successful, the Israeli army ordered its closure, claiming the cows to be a threat to Israeli national security. Defying the army, the activists went undercover, hiding the 18 cows in people’s houses and continuing to produce milk.
*Et aussi « 3000 Layal » :
Project brief: A newlywed Palestinian schoolteacher is arrested after an Israeli military patrol gravely injures one of her students, provoking a clash between the students and the soldiers. ‘Layal’ is detained in a high-security Israeli prison where, to her shock, she discovers that she is pregnant. Though she delivers her baby boy while chained to a bed, the child transforms her life and gives her hope. When the women of the prison protest by going on hunger strike, the prison director threatens to take Layal’s child away. With the help of the women, Layal learns to stand up for herself and fight for her child.
American Taxpayers Subsidize Israel’s Prosperity
►http://original.antiwar.com/alison-weir/2011/08/31/american-taxpayers-subsidize-israels-prosperity
The article fails to mention the well over $3 billion a year that American taxpayers have given Israel for years, nor the fact that some of this money has been used to develop industries that compete with U.S. companies, costing thousands of American jobs and adding to the American unemployment rate.
In the past 10 years alone, Americans have given Israel the equivalent of approximately $200,000 per Israeli family of five. In addition, there have been weapons subsidies, loan forgiveness programs, special trade preferences, and other generous gifts from American taxpayers to Israel. In fact, despite being one of the world’ smallest nations, Israel receives more U.S. tax money than any other country.

Human rights groups go further, saying the CIA now functions as a military force beyond the accountability that the United States has historically demanded of its armed services. The CIA doesn’t officially acknowledge the drone program, let alone provide public explanation about who shoots and who dies, and by what rules.
