De toute manière il n’y a aucune raison pour de la nostalgie. Pour se faire une idée de ce qu’est vraiment un hôtel il suffit de regarder le classique Der Letzte Mann , de lire le texte de George Orwell sur ses expériences dans les hôtels parisiens ou de demander aux syndicats du monde entier. Jalousie, exploitation et humiliation dans les couloirs d’employés marquent l’environnement essentiel pur la production de la belle facade de chacune de ces maisons.

Chapitre 11 - I worked at the Hôtel X, four days a week in the cafeterie, one day helping the waiter on the fourth floor, and one day replacing the woman who washed up for the dining-room. My day off, luckily, was Sunday, but sometimes another man was ill and I had to work that day as well. The hours were from seven in the morning till two in the afternoon, and from five in the evening till nine — eleven hours; but it was a fourteen-hour day when I washed up for the dining-room. By the ordinary standards of a Paris plongeur, these are exceptionally short hours. The only hardship of life was the fearful heat and stuffiness of these labyrinthine cellars. Apart from this the hotel, which was large and well organized, was considered a comfortable one.

Le Crillon est propriété depuis 2010 de la famille royale saoudienne.
Ils sont tellement riches que la bonne réputation de leur hôtel est plus importante pour eux que le profit immédiat. Ils ont continué à payer les employés pendant deux ans le temps d’accomplir d’importantes rénovations.
À la suite d’un accord signé avec la CGT, syndicat majoritaire au sein du comité d’entreprise, les 360 salariés obtinrent le maintien de leur poste et le versement de leur salaire pendant les travaux, sans contrepartie.
