Gallimard threatening and bullying publie.net on digital edition of a new translation of Hemingway’s Old man and the sea,
some quick context in english :
François Bon ( @fbon on twitter ) creator of ►http://publie.net ( @publienet ) digital editions, has made a new translation of Hemingway’s Old man and the sea.
The only existing french translation thus far, dates as old as 1954, and is frankly outdated according to translation best rules and standards. Note that Gallimard ( @gallimard ) has done nothing to publish its translation in digital version, nor publish a new and better translation.
Gallimard wakes up suddenly and bullies publie.net, demanding the takedown of the digital version of the new translation, and financial compensation for it: on a translation which they have no rights for, on a work by a writer whose works are (or maybe not yet since last copyright extension in the US) public domain at least and Canada...
Detail: 22 files of the files have been downloaded on publie.net - that’s what Gallimard wants money for...
This is yet another gloomy and f***ing example of the tweaked copyright / droit d’auteurs system the majors, editors and publishers have and do manage to manipulate on and on on their sole benefit, to keep their old deprecated domination system, lobbying to obtain laws keeping them in position.
Some terms and interpretation might be uncorrect in this short post, errors are mine, please see below listed posts formore accurate details (especially lawyers terms). I’ll update this post as soon as possible.
