Seven people are believed to have been killed in an apparent rocket attack on a Iranian cargo ship in the Red Sea off Yemen, Pakistani sources are reporting.
The Ansar Burney Trust, a human and civil rights organization in Pakistan, posted pictures of the alleged attack on its Facebook page. The organization said, citing its sources, that the Iranian-flagged cargo ship MV Jouya-8 was hit by a rocket and destroyed off Yemen.
All seven missing are reportedly Pakistani nationals. One person is believed to have survived.
“Ansar Burney Trust International has received information through its sources that an unfortunate ship namely “MV JOUYA-8” has been hit by a rocket in Sea of Yemen and reportedly destroyed… so far one Pakistani has managed to survive some how who has managed to swim towards some island,” Ansar Burney said in a statement posted to its Facebook page.
The Pakistani news agency Geo News said the attack occurred Wednesday night as the ship was underway from Egypt to Dubai.

  Growing fears of attacks in the area has seen the UK deploy its most advanced warship off the coast of Yemen.
  With a Teekay LNG carrier and a number of naval ships coming under attack in recent weeks and concern growing that terrorists are planning more suicide attempts in the narrow Bab al-Mandeb Strait, the HMS Daring was sent last month to help commercial ships transit the area.
  The strait links the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
  Kevin Doherty from Nexus Consulting told Splash last month there is a significant risk to all ships around Yemen from rockets, and that risk seems to be indiscriminate, being fired at any ship of opportunity.

  There are a couple of ’problems’ with this report:
  • The vessel was last reported on AIS, in the position of the claimed attack, on 11th November. - The incident supposedly happened on 22nd December.
  • The Picture used to illustrate the report is the same (discredited) picture used 18months ago supposedly showing an Egyptian warship being attacked.
  • The main source, Ansar Burney Trust, have nothing on their main website.
  All other media sources refer to the Ansar Burney Trust. Some claim that the missile was launched from an aircraft.- There has been no Official confirmation.
  In War the first casualty is always the truth....

The U.S. Navy’s new high tech destroyer has been sidelined for repairs after suffering a seawater leak in its propulsion system less than a month before its expected commissioning.
The U.S. Navy confirmed via a statement to USNI News that the future USS Zumwalt, the largest and most technologically advanced destroyer ever built for the Navy, suffered the engineering casualty that could take up to two weeks to repair.
The fault was discovered during at sea testing on September 19.
“The crew discovered the casualty after detecting a seawater leak in the propulsion motor drive lube oil auxiliary system for one of the ship’s shafts,” U.S. Naval Surface Forces said in a statement to USNI News. “The built-in redundancy of the ship’s propulsion plant allows this first-in-class ship to operate with multiple engine configurations. However, it was determined that the repairs should be completed in port prior to the ship transiting to sea.”

  The littoral combat ship USS Coronado is returning to Pearl Harbor from the Western Pacific after experiencing an engineering casualty earlier Tuesday, officials with the Navy’s Third Fleet confirmed.
  The incident comes just days after the Navy acknowledged that another littoral combat ship, the USS Freedom, had sustained significant damage to one of its diesel engines.
  The Coronado departed Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Aug. 26 for an independent deployment to the Western Pacific, Third Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Ryan Perry told Military.com in a statement.
  “USS Coronado (LCS 4) experienced an engineering casualty today while transiting to the Western Pacific,” Perry said in the statement. “The crew took precautionary measures and the ship is currently returning to Pearl Harbor to determine the extent of the problem and conduct repairs.”
  The Coronado is the fourth littoral combat ship to be sidelined by an engineering casualty in less than a year, following breakdowns by the USS Freedom in July and the USS Milwaukee and USS Fort Worth in December and January, respectively.
  However, the ship is the first of the Independence-class littoral combat ships, made by Austal USA, to suffer such an issue. The other ships are all part of the Freedom Class, made by Lockheed Martin Corp. The news of the Coronado’s breakdown was first reported by Navy Times.

  The littoral combat ship USS Freedom will need an engine rebuild or replacement after a seawater leak resulted in significant damage, Navy officials said.
  The Freedom is the third ship in the Freedom class of LCS, built by Lockheed Martin Corp., to suffer an engine casualty in the last year. The news of the incident, which happened July 11, was announced by the Navy on Sunday night.
  The Freedom, the first ship in its class, returned to its homeport at Naval Base San Diego, California, on July 13 under its own power to conduct repairs on an unrelated issue, officials with Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, said in a release.
  While in port, personnel examined the leak, which happened at the seawater pump mechanical seal, allowing seawater to enter the engine lube oil system and damage the ship’s second main propulsion diesel engine, officials said.

  Pour mémoire, c’était en juin 2016, la conception (innovante !) des génératrices des 6 destroyers de Type 45 de la marine britannique les rend totalement inopérants (plus aucune source d’énergie…) en eaux chaudes (genre Golfe ou Méditerranée…)
