A large turnout was reported on Sunday in first-round voting to elect the #France’s conservative candidate to stand in next year’s presidential elections. Of the seven rivals, only the two who emerge in the lead will go on to run in next Sunday’s decisive second round. With the ruling French Left in broad disarray, it is widely predicted that whoever wins the Républicains party #primaries will find themselves facing far-right leader Marine Le Pen in the crunch second round of the presidential elections next May. Opinion polls report the top three candidates are ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy, his former prime minister François Fillon, and veteran conservative and one-time prime minister Alain Juppé, who all appeared to be neck-and-neck as the voting began.
