It is, of course, the relationship with the world superpower, it is that sovereignty that drew the admiration of people, of oppressed people, the world over, that defiance. And how strange to present it still today as a threat to the United States.
D’ailleurs je vais reposter quelque chose au sujet de cette entreprise de #torture systématisée qui existe à #Cuba et que le monde regarde impuissant,où des prisonniers sont enfermés depuis plus de 10 ans sans procès, oui je parle de #guantanamo ...

Si j’ai bien tout compris :
– Les états-unis envoient des troupes à #Cuba en 1898 pour chasser les troupes espagnoles
– Ils mettent en place un gouvernement militaire d’occupation pendant 3 ans
– Ils partent en 1902 pour laisser place à la République de Cuba, mais sous les conditions de l’amendement Platt (1)
– Cet amendement comprend une cession ou location aux USA de bases militaires, dont #Guantanamo
– Du coup les USA possèdent en location à durée indéterminée cette partie de l’île, et la location ne peut être terminée que par accord des deux parties.
– Castro veut récupérer son bout de territoire mais ne peut pas, et n’encaisse aucun des chèques des USA (~4000$/mois)
Si c’est pas une #annexion ça ...

It reminds me of the comic and activist Professor Irwin Corey, who was a big supporter of the Revolution. He told my colleague Steve Rendall that he had complained to Castro, “For 40 years, you’ve refused to remove your country from around our military base.”
