Russian-Israeli blogger Alexander Lapshin (also holding the passports of Ukraine and Canada), sadly famous in Azerbaijan, was detained in Minsk (Belarus) last night. “Damn! I have just been arrested by Minsk militia at Azerbaijan’s request,” Lapshin posted on his Facebook page.

Lapshin, who sympathizes Karabakh separatists, has repeatedly paid visits to the occupied Azerbaijani lands, not coordinated with official Baku, which means the visits were illegal. For this reason in 2011 he was blacklisted by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. But in June, last year Lapshin arrived in Azerbaijan via Georgia using his Ukrainian passport. He could pass the border control and come to Baku because his name ’Alexander’ was written as ’Olexander’ in his Ukrainian passport.
