Thousands of stranded migrants found in Libya

A Libyan militia has discovered several large groups of migrants after pushing a rival faction out of the port city of #Sabratha. The fighting was reportedly triggered by Italy pledging support to one of the groups.

Libye : conditions de vie « intenables » pour les migrants à Sabratha

Depuis la prise il y a deux semaines de Sabratha, situé à 100 km de Tripoli dans l’ouest de la Libye, les forces qui tiennent la ville traquent les migrants. Sabratha est le point de départ pour 8 clandestins sur 10 qui tentent la traversée de la Libye vers l’Europe. Des centaines de migrants ont été retrouvés ces derniers temps dans des cachettes et entassés dans un entrepôt ou les conditions de vie sont intenables. Le HCR se dit préoccupé par la situation. L’OIM de son côté a déclaré vouloir fournir aide et assistance aux migrants désireux de rentrer chez eux.

Thousands of migrants caught up in intense fighting in Sabratha

After three weeks of fights between rival groups in Sabratha, that left at least 43 dead and 340 wounded, Libyan authorities took control of various informal detention centres and camps previously run by criminal networks where 4.000 to 6.000 refugees and migrants have been held here under “very difficult conditions”.
