One balmy evening while strolling in Washington Square Park with my husband, I noticed a smiling young tourist couple with a little girl walking towards us. The girl was cute, until she started screaming. She simultaneously climbed up her father’s body while shrieking and pointing at a large rat running out from under a park bench. The parents stopped in their tracks, as did the rat.
