    • Cardiologist’s killing will have ’devastating impact’ on healthcare in Gaza, says medical organisation

The death of Dr Marwan al-Sultan will leave a “devastating impact” on Gaza’s healthcare system, said Muath Alser, director of the Palestinian medical organisation, Healthcare Workers Watch (HWW), on Wednesday.
Sultan was one of only two cardiologists left in the Gaza Strip, and the director of the Indonesian hospital in north Gaza. He was killed in an Israeli air strike on his apartment on Wednesday, along with his wife and at least three of his children.
Paying homage to the renowned cardiologist, Alser told The Guardian: “The killing of Dr Marwan al-Sultan by the Israeli military is a catastrophic loss to Gaza and the entire medical community, and will have a devastating impact on Gaza’s healthcare system.

    • New Israeli Crime: Prominent Doctor Assassinated Alongside Several Family Members in Gaza | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
      https://pchrgaza.org/new-israeli-crime-prominent-doctor-assassinated-alongside-several-family-m

(...) According to information obtained by PCHR’s staff, at around 14:15 on Wednesday, 2 July 2025, Israeli warplanes targeted a residential apartment located near the former Chalets area in western Gaza City. As a result, nine people were killed, including Dr. Marwan ‘Omar Rab’ie al-Sultan (49), his wife Thekra Nemer al-Sultan (45), their 19-year-old daughter, Lamis, his sister, Amnah ‘Omar al-Sultan, Malak Eyad al-Sultan (15), ‘Aisha ‘Emad al-Sultan (25), her brother Mohammed (28) and Asmaa’ Joudi al-Sultan (37) .

Dr. al-Sultan and his family sought shelter in this rented apartment in western Gaza City after they had been forcibly displaced from northern Gaza due to the recurrent Israeli incursions in the area that have destroyed houses and civilian and healthcare facilities.

The targeting of a displaced civilian doctor and his family while sheltering in a residential apartment constitutes a war crime under the international humanitarian law. It is also a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions as well as the rules pertaining to the protection of civilians and medical personnel during armed conflicts.

  • “We Will Leave Them Nothing”: New PCHR Report Reveals Israeli Destruction of Gaza’s Agricultural Sector and Food Systems Aims to Erase Palestinian Existence | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
    https://pchrgaza.org/we-will-leave-them-nothing-new-pchr-report-reveals-israeli-destruction-of-

In a new report issued today, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) confirms that the ongoing Israeli military assault on the Gaza Strip, which began in October 2023, has deliberately and extensively targeted Gaza’s agricultural sector and food production systems. This assault has resulted in the near-total collapse of a sector essential for the survival of the population. PCHR reveals that this destruction is part of a longstanding and systematic strategy by the IOF to exterminate the Palestinian people and uproot their existence. This objective has become a central policy of the current Israeli government, which uses destruction and starvation as weapons of war within the broader framework of the crime of genocide—seeking to eliminate Palestinians and strip them of the basic means of survival.

The report, titled “We Will Leave Them Nothing: The Israeli Systematic Destruction of the Agricultural Sector and Food Production Systems in Gaza”, meticulously documents the deliberate and large-scale destruction by the IOF of Gaza’s agricultural infrastructure. Nearly 75% of farmlands and orchards have been bulldozed and obliterated. The vast majority of agricultural facilities—including greenhouses, storage warehouses, farming equipment, irrigation systems, and power supplies—have been destroyed. In addition, livestock and fishery facilities, which are vital pillars of Gaza’s food security system, have also been decimated.

The report highlights that IOF has seized more than 130 km² of land across Gaza, much of it agricultural, and converted it into military buffer zones. This has deprived Palestinians of vast areas essential for food production—an explicit violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention’s protections for civilian property during wartime and the prohibition against seizing the land of occupied populations. The report also stresses that these unprecedented attacks on Gaza’s food sources have been compounded by an intensified blockade, the denial of humanitarian aid and food supplies, and the systematic use of starvation as a weapon of war. These acts have had catastrophic consequences for food security, triggering a severe hunger crisis and soaring levels of malnutrition. (...)

(...) According to PCHR’s documentation, on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, an Israeli warplane fired a missile at journalist Sa’id Amin Abu Hasanein (42) , targeting and killing him, his wife, Asmaa’ Jihad Abu Hasanein and their 15-year-old daughter, Sarah, while they were walking on al-Bee’ah Street, central Deir al-Balah. Hasanein worked in sound engineering and audio mixing at Al-Aqsa Voice Radio in Gaza.

With this crime, the number of journalists killed by IOF since 07 October 2023 has risen to 212, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office. This war has taken a record toll since the recording of journalist fatalities started in 1992. Among those killed were 13 female journalists. Meanwhile, the majority of journalists were killed in Israeli warplane and drone airstrikes, and the remaining were shot dead by Israeli snipers. Most journalists were killed alongside their families in targeted attacks on their homes, while others were killed in indiscriminate bombings throughout the ongoing genocide. Some journalists were directly targeted and killed while others were killed on duty. Additionally, 194 journalists have been injured under various circumstances during the aggression. Moreover, a large number of social media activists have been targeted by the IOF, who systematically incite against them and threaten to kill them if they do not remain silent. (...)

  • Al Mezan Center for Human Rights - Urgent Appeal: The International Community Must Take Immediate Action to Halt Israel’s Renewed Atrocities in Gaza
    https://mezan.org/public/en/post/46664
    https://mezan.org/public/assets/uploads/media-uploader/large/whatsapp-image-2024-12-30-at-180249-batch1742289706.jpg

Gaza, 18 March 2025 –At dawn today, Israeli forces renewed their military onslaught on Gaza, intensifying their policy of mass killings, destroying homes with residents inside, and bombing tents and shelters housing displaced people.

According to field reports, at approximately 01:40 am on Tuesday 18 March 2025, Israeli warplanes launched a series of intensive airstrikes across different areas of Gaza. These attacks were accompanied by heavy artillery shelling targeting the eastern parts of the Gaza Strip and the western areas of Rafah. At the time of publication, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the attacks have killed more than 404 Palestinians and injured 562 others, with many victims still trapped under the rubble. The majority of the casualties are women, children, and the elderly.

This serious escalation comes amid Israel’s ongoing closure of Gaza’s crossings and 15 months of systematic destruction that have crippled all aspects of life for over two million Palestinians in Gaza. The collapse of the healthcare system has left Gaza unable to cope with the growing number of casualties from the renewed attacks. With Gaza’s crossings closed for more than two weeks and a complete ban on entry of medical supplies, food, and fuel, a catastrophic humanitarian crisis is unfolding. The severe fuel shortages are preventing ambulances, civil defense teams, and civilians from transporting the wounded and deceased to hospitals, further worsening the crisis.

Along with these attacks, Israeli forces have issued new displacement orders, forcing residents of Gaza’s eastern, northern, and southern border areas to move toward the already overcrowded coastal areas, into extremely limited spaces. At the same time, Israel has shut down the Rafah Crossing, preventing critically ill patients from accessing life-saving medical treatment abroad and putting the lives of thousands at risk.

This renewed wave of attacks – including the systematic targeting of homes, tents, and shelters housing displaced people – along with forced displacement orders and the intensified blockade, is clearly a precursor for even more egregious crimes of the magnitude of atrocities committed before the ceasefire agreement. (...) According to PCHR’s initial field documentation, at approximately 02:10 on Tuesday, 18 March 2025, the IOF simultaneously launched dozens of intense airstrikes on houses, shelters, and tents housing displaced people across the Gaza Strip. These airstrikes have killed and injured hundreds of people, most of whom were civilians.

According to the initial toll reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MOH), hospitals in the Gaza Strip have received 326 people killed and more than 440 injuries, including many in critical condition, due to the IOF’s several attacks on the Gaza Strip at dawn.1 Meanwhile, a large number of victims remain trapped under the rubble, and many of them are impossible to retrieve.

Our teams are tirelessly working on documenting these crimes in detail despite the difficulties of movement and the risks posed by the ongoing Israeli military attacks. Meanwhile, ambulance and civil defense teams are facing challenges in retrieving and transporting the victims due to the lack of necessary equipment and fuel shortages.

Moreover, the IOF has issued evacuation orders urging all the Gaza Strip’s residents living near the buffer zone, which the IOF had imposed and where they are stationed, in the southern, eastern, and northern parts of Gaza Strip. These orders were specifically directed to the residents of Beit Hanoun, Kherbet Khuza’a, and Abasan al-Kabira and al-Jadida, ordering them to head towards western Gaza and Khan Yunis.2 (...)

  • Israeli attack targeting workers for UK charity kills nine

Mourners gather around the bodies of those killed by Israeli bombardment outside the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip, on 15 March 15 2025 (AFP)

An Israeli drone attack has killed eight volunteers working for the UK charity Al-Khair Foundation as they were setting up tents for displaced Palestinians in northern Gaza.

At least nine people, including three journalists, were killed and several more wounded in the attack in Gaza’s Beit Lahia, which targeted a relief team accompanied by journalists and photographers, according to Palestinian media.

Qasim Rashid Ahmad, founder and chairman of Al-Khair Foundation, told the BBC the team was in Beit Lahia on Saturday to set up tents for displaced Palestinians.

He said the cameramen were hit when they came back to their car, and moments later, an Israeli drone targeted their team members who had rushed to the scene.

Middle East Eye reached out to the Foreign Office for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

The Palestinian Journalists Protection Center identified video editor Bilal Abu Matar and cameramen Mahmoud al-Sarraj, Bilal Aqila and Mahmoud Asleem as having been killed in the attack.

The centre said that “the journalists were documenting humanitarian relief efforts for those affected by Israel’s genocidal war”.
    ’Flagrant violation of international law’

Hamas called the attack a “horrific massacre” and “a dangerous escalation that reflects [Israel’s] insistence on continuing its aggression and disregard for all international laws and conventions”.

The Israeli military claimed it struck “two terrorists... operating a drone that posed a threat”. It added: “Later, a number of additional terrorists collected the drone operating equipment and entered a vehicle. The [military] struck the terrorists.”

The military gave no evidence for its claims, which were strongly denied by Al-Khair Foundation. (...)

    • Israel Persists in Genocide by Escalating Killings, Bombings, and Starvation in Gaza
March 16, 2025 | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
      https://pchrgaza.org/israel-persists-in-genocide-by-escalating-killings-bombings-and-starvation

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) ongoing commission of unjustifiable killings and indiscriminate bombings in the Gaza Strip, in addition to the continued closure of Gaza’s crossings and the use of starvation as a weapon of war. This indicates Israel’s insistence on continuing its genocide against the Palestinians.

This escalation comes after Israel declared its unliteral renunciation of the ceasefire agreement and amid its escalating threats to resume their widescale military aggression on the Gaza Strip

In their latest crimes, IOF killed 6 Palestinians, including media and humanitarian relief professionals, in a drone strike targeting them in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip.

According to PCHR’s field documentation, at around 12:00 on Saturday, 15 March 2025, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a group of humanitarian aid workers inside al-Kheir displacement camp established by al-Kheir Charity in northern al-‘Atatrah area, northwest of Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip. While attempting to escape in a vehicle, the Israeli drone fired another missile, killing 6, including 3 of the charity staff members and 3 media professionals working for the same charity. Their bodies were burnt and turned into pieces while 10 others were wounded, including 2 in critical condition.

Those killed were identified as Mahmoud Khaled Mesbah al-Basous (20), a freelance drone photographer working for Anadolu News Agency; Belal Mohammed Khalil Abu Matter (35), working in montage; Mohammed Wasfi Hassan al-Ghafir (26); Hazem Mohammed Isma’il Ghareeb (35); Belal Hussam Sha’ban ‘Akilah (28), all working in al-Kheir Charity; and Mahmoud Yehia Rushdi al-Sarraji (24), a photographer whose brother, Rushdi, a journalist, had been killed in a previous Israeli airstrike . It should be noted that the two brothers were the sons of Gaza Mayor.

One of al-Kheir Chairty staff members stated that the staff targeted by IOF was inaugurating al-Kheir displacement camp, which has been established to shelter hundreds of displaced people, whose houses had been destroyed in Beit Lahia.

This crime indicates a surge in IOF’s killings over the past few days in the Gaza Strip and their recurrent breaches of the ceasefire agreement.

Moreover, in recent days, our field researchers have documented 6 airstrikes that have claimed the lives of 8 civilians, including 3 children, a young man, a fisherman and 3 brothers. The incidents were as follows:

At around 17:00 on Friday, 14 March 2025, Israeli gunboats stationed off al-Sudaniyah Shore, west of Jabalia, northern Gaza Strip, fired a shell at a rowing boat manned by a fisherman namely Mohammed Riyadh Siam (22). As a result, shrapnel hit different parts of his body and killed him while he was fishing only 200 meters offshore.

At around 17:50 on Thursday, 13 March 2025, an Israeli drone dropped two bombs at a tent sheltering Karim ‘Azzam Mahmoud Nuseir, in Buret al-Amal neighborhood, northeastern Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip. As a result, his 3-year-old child, Seraj, was killed with shrapnel that hit different parts of his body. Also, the child’s mother, Dina Suhail Nuseir (25), was injured with shrapnel in her head and her condition was reported critical. She was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia. The child’s father said that he had to set up the tent in that area which is more than 1000 meters away from the border with Israel after his house had been destroyed by the IOF.

Later that evening, an Israeli drone indiscriminately opened fire at al-Shuja’iyah neighborhood, eastern Gaza City, killing 3-year-old Amjad Hazem ‘Abed. It should be noted that the child’s father was killed months ago during the Israeli military aggression on the Gaza Strip.

At around 17:20 on Tuesday, 11 March 2025, IOF stationed along the border fence in Kusufim area, between Al-Qarara and east of Wadi Al-Salqa village, east of Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, opened fire at houses in Wadi al-Salqa village. As a result, 13-year-old Hala ‘Azmi Mohammed Abu Haddaf was injured with a bullet in her chest while she was on her way to buy some supplies for Suhour, a pre-dawn meal before fasting in Ramadan. Hala’s father took her in donkey-drawn cart and then a nearby SUV drove them to an ambulance that transported them to al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, where doctors announced her death.

At around 17:30 on Monday, 10 March 2025, an Israeli quadcopter fired a missile at a group of people in front of their houses in al-Shawkah village, eastern Rafah City. As a result, Najjad Nahed Soliman Abu Sneimah (18) was killed.

At around 14:20 on the same day, an Israeli drone targeted a group of people in northeastern al-Bureij in the central Gaza Strip. As a result, 3 brothers were killed: Mahmoud, Mohammed and Ahmed ‘Abdullah Mahmoud Ahmed. People tried to pull the three brothers from the area, but the Israeli drones fired more missiles, forcing them to retreat more than once. Four hours later, the bodies of the three brothers could be evacuated to al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.

More shooting incidents were documented by our researchers in Rafah, Khan Younis and northern Gaza Strip in recent days. These recurrent incidents have injured many, including children and women, forcing hundreds to evacuate to areas that are way further from the IOF-imposed buffer zone.

Since the ceasefire was declared on 19 January 2025, IOF’s killings and airstrikes have not stopped across the Gaza Strip. As a result, more than 155 Palestinians have been killed so far, and hundred others have been injured. This undoubtedly proves the Israeli genocide continues by maintaining the same situation imposed since 07 October, including returning to kill civilians even during the ceasefire. (...)

  • West Bank: Israel Escalates Its Crimes in Jenin Following the Gaza Ceasefire Agreement
January 23, 2025 | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
    https://pchrgaza.org/west-bank-israel-escalates-its-crimes-in-jenin-following-the-gaza-ceasefir

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation forces’ (IOF) brutal assault on Jenin, in the north of the West Bank, which commenced on Tuesday, January 20, 2025. This unlawful military operation has so far resulted in the killing of 10 Palestinians, including 8 civilians, among them one child, the wounding of dozens more, and the forcible displacement of hundreds of residents from Jenin Refugee Camp.

PCHR warns that this assault, referred to as “The Iron Wall”1 by the Israeli military, marks the beginning of a dangerous escalation in the West Bank, particularly following the ceasefire in Gaza. The scale of this attack raises serious concerns about a high death toll, widespread destruction, and the risk of a catastrophic repetition of the genocidal violence previously seen in Gaza.

According to information gathered by PCHR’s field researchers, at approximately 12:15 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, a special Israeli military unit, fully equipped in combat gear, infiltrated the western part of Jenin Refugee Camp, specifically targeting Al-Hadaf neighborhood. The IOF deployed snipers on high-rise buildings, opened heavy fire, and launched a series of aerial bombardments. Within 20 minutes, reinforcements, including military vehicles and bulldozers from the Jalameh checkpoint north of Jenin, arrived, tightening the siege and shooting at anyone attempting to flee. Additional Israeli forces were also deployed from the Salem checkpoint, completely surrounding the camp.

As of now, Israeli forces are still storming Jenin city center and the camp, with reports of the demolition of roads and infrastructure. Several hours into the assault, the occupation forces demanded that the residents of the camp evacuate their homes, ordering groups of five Palestinians at a time to approach their positions for inspection. During this process, several civilians were arrested, forced to wear white jumpsuits, and taken to unknown locations.

PCHR warns that Israel is using the ceasefire in Gaza as a pretext to escalate violence in the West Bank. Israel’s current escalation is a direct violation of international law, including the unlawful use of excessive force and indiscriminate killings.

  • Double Standards and Intent to Violate the Rome Statute: France Must Rescind its Decision to Accord Immunity to Wanted Criminals Netanyahu and Gallant | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
    https://pchrgaza.org/double-standards-and-intent-to-violate-the-rome-statute-france-must-rescin
    https://www.alhaq.org/advocacy/25341.html

Al-Haq, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, condemn in the strongest terms as a deliberate and egregious evasion of international law, the statement by France declaring that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and other relevant Ministers will benefit from “the immunities of States not party to the ICC [International Criminal Court]”, indicating that “should the ICC request of us their arrest and surrender” such immunities would have to be “taken into account”. The 27 November 2024 statement from France’s Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs evidences a political loyalty by France to Israel –– France having reportedly bartered its position on immunity in return for Israel’s acceptance of the Lebanon ceasefire –– trumping its own legal obligation and commitment to the rule of law. France’s decision to declare its intention not to abide by its obligations under the Rome Statute, suggests a reactionary and fundamentally dangerous reversal in French policy on immunity for Heads of State, a policy direction that runs contrary to France’s statutory obligations under the Rome Statute.
    (...)
    We call on France
    – To retract its statement of 27 November 2024, and to reaffirm its former position that: “Each State party to the Rome Statute has an obligation to cooperate with the International Criminal Court and execute the arrest warrants it issues, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Rome Statute”.
    – To reiterate its commitment to abide by the Rome Statute, all orders and requests of the Court, and to abide by its international legal obligations.
    To all states parties
    – To comply with the obligation, inter alia, to cooperate in arresting Netanyahu and Gallant;
    – We call on all States to close off their land air and sea for the transit of Netanyahu and Gallant to international travel, to arrest the perpetrators and facilitate their transfer to the Hague.

  • Urgent Appeal: Stop the Renewed Wave of Genocidal Violence Against Palestinians in Northern Gaza Now!
October 16, 2024 | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
    https://pchrgaza.org/urgent-appeal-stop-the-renewed-wave-of-genocidal-violence-against-palestin
    https://pchrgaza.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot-2024-10-16-171617.png

For the 12th consecutive day, the Israeli military has launched a renewed wave of genocidal violence against Palestinians in northern Gaza, specifically in Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun, besieging Palestinians therein and subjecting them to intense aerial and artillery bombardment.

Israel is directly implementing theso-called “Generals’ Plan”, reportedly examined by the Israeli Prime Minister, that is aimed at emptying northern Gaza of its residents by laying a full siege, denying the entry of humanitarian aid, forcing Palestinians to leave, and unlawfully declaring whoever remains to be a military target.

Palestinians remaining in the north of Gaza, who number around 400,000 people, are being punished for continuing to refuse to follow Israel’s unlawful forcible displacement orders. For them, and every Palestinian in Gaza, there is no safe space left in the entire strip. They are also fearful that if they leave, then they will never be able to return to their homes and lands, as Israel’s plan to resettle through the illegal transfer of its own civilian population and annex northern Gaza is becoming clearer with every day that passes.

According to information collected by our organizations on the ground, around 400 Palestinians have been killed and thousands more, who are currently trapped in northern Gaza, are at risk of being killed. Palestinians therein are being starved to death as Israel continues to prevent humanitarian aid trucks from reaching these areas. Those attempting to flee from the area or move from one place to another to search for ‘safety’ or food are being shot at and killed by Israeli snipers, quadcopters, and drones. The streets are filled with dozens of dead bodies and wounded Palestinians, as medical and civil defense teams are unable to access any of these areas without risking being killed. The main three hospitals in the North Gaza Governorate – Al-Awda Hospital, Indonesian Hospital, and Kamal Adwan Hospital – are on the verge of collapse due to the lack of fuel and they continue to be surrounded by Israeli snipers and tanks.

Our appeals throughout the past year for the international community to stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza have gone in vain. We now call on the free people across the world to exert the maximum pressure on their governments and relevant stakeholders to take immediate and concrete action to end Israel’s genocide against Palestinians.

The commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), General Erik Kurilla, visited Israel over the weekend at the invitation of Israeli Chief of Staff General Herzi Halevi, the Israeli military announced on Tuesday. The visit coincided with Israel’s gruesome massacre of at least 275 Palestinians and the wounding of 689 others in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday during an operation to rescue four hostages.

“Kurilla and Halevi held an operational situation assessment, discussed recent regional challenges and the strengthening of the strategic partnership against the Iranian threat,” said Israeli occupation army spokesman Avichai Adraee said on X on Tuesday. “They also discussed developments in the war against Hamas [sic] in the Gaza Strip and ongoing Hezbollah attacks from Lebanon.”

    • Genocidal Massacre in Central Gaza: Israeli Forces Kill 274 Palestinians and Injure 698 in Attack Lasting 75 Minutes
Date: 10 June 2024 - Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
      https://pchrgaza.org/en/genocidal-massacre-in-central-gaza-israeli-forces-kill-274-palestinians-an

On Saturday, 8 June 2024, the Israeli occupying forces (IOF) perpetrated yet another genocidal massacre against the Palestinian people in Gaza. During a military attack in Nuseirat Refugee Camp and across other areas of central Gaza, the IOF killed at least 274 Palestinians and injured around 698 others, including 161 women and 153 children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Among the number of casualties were amputees and serious injuries. The military attack, which lasted around 75 minutes, featured the use of deadly force and heavy firing in a densely populated area, primarily inhabited by internally displaced persons (IDPs), proving once again no regard for Palestinian life.

According to our preliminary documentation, at 11:00 am on Saturday, 8 June 2024, an Israeli Special Unit camouflaging in civilian vehicles—including a Volkswagen Caddy, and a transporting van— which may amount to the war crime of perfidy, entered the Nuseirat Refugee Camp in central Gaza. The Special Unit raided two homes in Block 5 of the Camp. Shortly after, the IOF launched a ground attack with a large number of tanks on the Camp and besieged three areas: Abu Assi Petrol Station to the southeast, the Wadi Gaza area to the northeast, and Al-Maghazi and the New Camp area to the north of the Camp. This coincided with Israeli warplanes directly striking five homes in the Camp while their residents were still inside and intensively conducting airstrikes and fire belts in Block 5, Al-Hasayna area and the New Camp. The ground attack, combined with the Special Unit’s infiltration and relentless bombardment, took place when the Nusairat Camp’s market was overcrowded with thousands of shoppers. It is important to note that Nusairat shelters tens of thousands of forcibly displaced Palestinians from the eastern Middle Area and Rafah. In parallel, while the attack in Nusairat was unfolding, Israeli warplanes conducted several airstrikes, targeting multiple houses in Deir al-Balah, in Gaza’s Middle Area.

Later, the IOF announced that the military attack led to the release of four Israeli captives. The attack resulted in the killing of 274 Palestinians, including 64 children, 57 women, and 37 elderly, and the wounding of 698 others, including 153 children, 161 women, and 54 elderly. Ambulance and rescue teams struggled to evacuate killed and injured Palestinians, many of whom had been shredded to pieces or decapitated by the bombing. This attack further proves Israel’s dehumanisation of Palestinians and blatant disregard for Palestinian life. The sheer scale of Palestinians killed and injured underscores a deliberate and callous indifference to Palestinian suffering, further emphasising a systemic policy that views Palestinian lives as expendable.

Our teams continue to diligently document IOF’s international crimes committed during this attack, including the circumstances of the killings and the deliberate targeting of homes with residents inside. According to initial information, the overwhelming majority of those killed were targeted while at home or on the streets, with some being killed as they were trying to flee the IOF attacks from the camouflaged civilian vehicles. Our teams are further carrying out preliminary investigations into alleged United States involvement in the attack, including the utilisation of the pier in the military attack, which was supposedly constructed for humanitarian purposes. We further warn of the grave dangers this poses to the lives of humanitarian workers in Gaza, who are providing life-saving assistance amid starvation and the collapse of the health sector.

As of time of writing, the Israeli military continues with its aerial, artillery and naval bombardment across the Gaza Strip, inflicting further killings, injuries, and destruction to buildings and infrastructure. Over two million Palestinians continue to suffer amidst lack of life essentials, ban of humanitarian aid entry and the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system.

Diaa Khalil Ahmed al-Kahlout (42), resident of al-Karamah neighborhood in Jabalia and married with 5 children. al-Kahlout is the Director and Reporter of the New Arab News Website in the Gaza Strip.

On Saturday, 07 October 2023, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) launched their aggression on the Gaza Strip and targeted it with heavy airstrikes destroying houses and inflecting deaths and injuries among civilians following the events of 7 October. Thus, with the beginning of the Israeli aggression, I have closely followed the developments on the ground as part of my journalistic work as the Director and Reporter of the New Arab News Website in the Gaza Strip.

Later, IOF sent voice and text messages on home and mobile phones via the Palestine Telecommunications (Paltel) and Palestine Cellular Communications operators “Jawwal and Ooredoo” urging the residents of several neighborhoods in Gaza city and Northern Gaza to evacuate, including al-Karamah neighborhood in northwestern Gaza City where I live. I had to evacuate my home after IOF’s warplanes bombed and destroyed nearby houses, inflicting casualties, and due to the Israeli threats to bomb all the houses in the neighborhood.

After I evacuated with my wife and 5 children, I headed to my family house in Beit Lahia Housing Project, north of the Gaza Strip, where I stayed until Thursday 7 December 2023. Following IOF’s ground invasion into the northwestern Gaza Strip, the Israeli tanks and other vehicles arrived at Beit Lahia housing project. At approximately 09:00 on Thursday, 07 December 2023, when I was at my family house, we heard the Israeli soldiers screaming via loudspeakers ordering the residents to get out of their houses. We were around 40 persons (many families), mostly children, women and elderlies, who got out of the house.

The soldiers then ordered women, elderlies and children under 18, to head to Kamal ‘Odwan Hospital in Beit Lahia Housing Project while I stayed on the street with my brothers, Taher (40) and Mohammed (36) along with 9 of our brothers-in-law and neighbors. The soldiers then ordered us to take off our clothes except the underwear and forced us to sit on the ground. Afterwards, the soldiers raided our house and completely burned it along with other nearby houses before leaving the area. (...)

  • PCHR Condemns Israeli National Security Minister’s decision to Ban Monthly Family Visits for Palestinian Detainees – Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
    04 September 2023
    https://pchrgaza.org/en/pchr-condemns-israeli-national-security-ministers-decision-to-ban-monthly-

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) strongly condemns the decision by Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, to reduce family visits for Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons to once every two months instead of per month. PCHR warns against the repercussions of this arbitrary decision on the detainees’ conditions, which is the latest punitive and inhumane measure taken by the Israel’s extremist far-right government, including depriving detainees of their fundamental rights to food, water, and others.

PCHR confirms that this decision violates the provisions of international humanitarian law, especially the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons, the relevant customary laws, and the UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners adopted by the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

Ben-Gvir’s decision issued on 27 August 2023 is supposed to take effect on Sunday, 03 September 2023, against 1600 Palestinian detainees from the West Bank, noting that there are around 5000 prisoners in the Israeli prisons serving varying sentences, including dozens sentenced to life imprisonments and serving sentences for long period in prison.

This decision came amid rising tension in the Israeli prisons, as the Palestinian detainees have taken escalatory steps to protest a series of decisions and punitive measures lately taken by the Israeli Prison Service that included depriving them of bread and fresh food, reducing shower time and running water, and banning dental services. Earlier, Ben-Gvir issued an amendment to the law to revoke early release of Palestinian detainees. This unjust decision deprives dozens of patients and elderly people, especially those serving sentences of less than ten years, of benefiting from such an advantage, noting that already detainees serving high sentences are deprived of early release. • In Worst acts of Retaliatory Violence: Palestinian Killed, Dozens of Houses and Vehicles Burnt in Widescale Attacks by Israeli Occupation Forces and Settlers in Ramallah
      Date: 21 June 2023 Time: 19:30 GMT
      https://pchrgaza.org/en/in-worst-acts-of-retaliatory-violence-palestinian-killed-dozens-of-houses-

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) condemns in the strongest terms today’s widescale violence and retaliatory acts conducted by hundreds of settlers under the protection of the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) in Turmus ‘Ayya village in northern Ramallah, north of the West Bank. Setters’ violence has killed a Palestinian and injured 11 others, some in serious condition, in addition to setting dozens of houses, facilities, and vehicles ablaze.

Those attacks were triggered by the Israeli ministers’ incitement policy that is persistent due to the impunity policy and protection provided for settlers’ racist violence that is backed by Israel’s top military and political echelons.

According to initial information collected by PCHR’s fieldworker, at approximately 13:58 on Wednesday, dozens of armed and masked settlers, from “Shilo” settlement, which is established in eastern Ramallah, broke into Turmus ‘Ayya village. The settlers immediately carried out retaliatory violence, indiscriminately opened fire at Palestinians and their houses and set many vehicles parked on the village’s streets ablaze. Meanwhile, villagers gathered and tried to confront the settlers with stones, so the latter directly opened fire at them and burned several residential houses. Afterwards, violent clashes broke out on the village’s streets and heavy smoke spread after several vehicles and houses were burnt. More settlers then arrived in the village and raided most of the residential houses to the right side of the village’s main entrance, forcing the residents out, and setting the houses and their gardens ablaze. Later, large Israeli forces moved into the village amid heavy firing of bullets and teargas canisters at the protestors to protect the Israeli settlers while conducting their attacks.

Head of Turmus ‘Ayya Village Council, Lafi Adeeb Shalabi, said to PCHR’s fieldworker that the initial results of settlers’ attacks indicated that about 30 houses were completely burnt in addition to 60 vehicles.

At around 16:00, as confrontations heightened, IOF secured the settlers’ withdrawal to the main entrance to the Town (Bypass Road 60). Meanwhile, the protestors chased them when IOF opened fire at them, wounding 12 Palestinians with live bullets. The wounded were taken to a local hospital in the village, where it turned out that several serious injuries were referred to the Palestine Medical Complex, including ‘Omar Hisham ‘Abdullah Jbara (25), who was shot with a live bullet in the chest. The doctors tried to save his life but in vain as his death was pronounced at around 16:22.

1 \ Scoop: Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu called on Friday night Ukraine’s President Zelensky & asked that his country vote against the UN general assembly resolution to refer the issue of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank to the ICJ, Israeli & Ukrainian officials told me
2 \ Why it matters: In the previous vote at a UN committee several weeks ago Ukraine voted in favour of the resolution which was tabled by the Palestinians, regardless of Israeli requests not to do so
3 \ Ukrainian officials said they voted in favour as a reaction to Israel’s refusal to provide military assistance to Ukraine. Israeli foreign ministry officials were furious and summoned the Ukrainian ambassador for a tough conversation
4 \ A senior Israeli official told me Netanyahu called Zelensky as part of a series of phone calls with leaders of countries that Israel wanted to change their country’s vote and oppose the resolution or at least abstain
5 \ A Ukrainian official said Zelensky told Netanyahu that in return for voting against or abstaining he wants to hear how the new Israeli government is going to change its policy and provide Ukraine with defensive systems against Russian missile and drone attacks
6 \ The Ukrainian official said Netanyahu didn’t commit to anything during the call and said the vote was getting close and that he is ready to discuss Zelensky’s requests in the future
7 \ According to the Ukrainian official Zelensky didn’t like Netanyahu’s answer and didn’t agree to vote against the resolution or abstain. Instead he instructed Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN not to attend the vote
8 \ The Ukrainian official said: “The two leaders weren’t satisfied and didn’t get what they wanted. Zelensky decided that we will not attend the vote in order to give a chance to the relationship with Netanyahu"
9 \ A senior Israeli official said that even though Ukraine didn’t vote in favour of the Palestinian resolution, Israel was disappointed that instead of abstaining it decided not to attend the vote
10 \ Netanyahu’s office told me: "Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke to president Zelensky, and Ukraine, which voted before in favour of the anti-Israeli resolution, didn’t attend the vote this time. Other than that we will not comment on diplomatic converstions”. END

On 30 December, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted in favor of a resolution requesting the International Court of Justice to provide an advisory opinion on the legal nature of Israel’s prolonged military occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) and the responsibilities of third party-states.[1]

The resolution, which was approved with 87 votes in favor, 26 votes against, and 53 abstentions, asks the ICJ to weigh in on the “legal consequences arising from the ongoing violation by Israel of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, from its prolonged occupation, settlement and annexation of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including measures aimed at altering the demographic composition character, and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem, and from its adoption of related discriminatory legislation and measures”.[2] The resolution also asks the Court for an opinion on how these Israeli policies and practices “affect the legal status of the occupation” and the “legal consequences that arise for all states and the United Nations from this status”.[3] (...)
