Ici, il est hors de question d’imaginer une quelconque défaillance de la veille sur l’un ou l’autre navire : ça doit être l’endroit où le trafic est le plus dense au monde et on est aux abords immédiats du port…
En revanche, le communiqué de la Navy laisse songeur. Le John McCain est abordé à babord (à l’arrière de sa seconde cheminée), vraisemblablement à l’endroit où s’achève la dernière ligne droite de la trajectoire) alors que le pétrolier vient de l’est et se dirige vers le terminal pétrolier (dans l’axe de cette ligne droite). Difficile à imaginer si le John McCain entrait au port ; normalement, il présentait son flanc tribord…
Au vu des photos, et de l’enfoncement des tôles, il semblerait que le pétrolier venait de l’arrière.

Mounting questions
The details of how the collisions occurred remain unkown, But incidents such as those with the McCain and Fitzgerald incidents are troubling, said Jan van Tol, a retired commander of three war ships who now serves as an analyst with the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.
“Navy destroyers are remarkably nimble and responsive, including rapid acceleration ability, thus should certainly be able to get out of the way of almost anything approaching ‘too close,’” van Tol said in an email.
“Such close quarters situations should NEVER be allowed to develop without various watchstanders and watchteams being well aware that they are developing,” he said.
It is unknown whether McCain had suffered any kind of casualty to its engineering or steering systems ahead of the collision that would have contributed to the disaster.
The collision was the fourth significant safety incident of 2017 involving a U.S. 7th Fleet ship. In January, the cruiser Antietam ran aground in Tokyo Bay and in May, the cruiser Lake Champlain collided with a Korean fishing boat in the Sea of Japan.

La collision a eu lieu nettement plus à l’est, juste à l’entrée du dispositif de séparation de trafic. Dans les derniers instants, on voit l’Alnic NC abattre en grand sur la gauche en ralentissant fortement, indice évident d’une manœuvre en catastrophe, qui ne peut se justifier (on est dans le rail, bon sang !) que par une tentative d’évitement désespérée…

pour gCaptain, l’abattée à gauche est le résultat de la collision, ce qui parait tout à fait crédible et explique bien la forme de l’enfoncement sur l’arrière de l’ouverture. Le McCain devait filer vite pour dévier à ce point la trajectore.
Du coup, on peut élaborer un scénario où le McCain coupe, pour des raisons qu’il reste à préciser, le rail « conformément aux règles internationales » : perpendiculairement et le plus vite possible. Et dans ce cas, il est responsable à 100%…

The oil tanker involved in a collision with the USS John S. McCain destroyer in busy Southeast Asian waters had four deficiencies including navigation safety violations in its last port inspection.
An official database for ports in Asia shows the Alnic MC was inspected in the Chinese port of Dongying on July 29 and had one document deficiency, one fire safety deficiency and two safety of navigation problems.
The database doesn’t go into details and the problems were apparently not serious enough for the Liberian-flagged and Greek-owned vessel to be detained by the port authority.

The chief of Malaysia’s Maritime Enforcement Agency says the collision between an oil tanker and the USS John S. McCain guided missile destroyer early Monday occurred at the start of a designated sea lane for ships sailing into the Singapore Strait, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.
Zulkifli Abu Bakar said the incident occurred 4.5 nautical miles (8.3 kilometers) from Malaysia’s coast. He said a Malaysian warship was in the area monitoring the cleanup of an oil spill from an unrelated collision of two merchant ships and was contacted by the McCain.
Both Malaysia and Singapore say the accident happened in their waters, likely reflecting a dispute about ownership of some rocky outcrops in the area.
“It happened in Malaysian territorial waters, specifically in Teluk Ramunia waters,” Zulkifli said. “For this moment, we shouldn’t argue about whose waters. Most important thing is we focus on the search and rescue.”

What caused the accident?
The warship suffered a steering failure as the warship was beginning its approach into the Strait of Malacca, causing it to collide with a commercial tanker Monday, a US Navy official told CNN.
The official said it was unclear why the crew couldn’t utilize the ship’s backup steering systems to maintain control of ship.
Earlier, another US Navy official told CNN there were indications the destroyer experienced a loss of steering right before the collision, but steering had been regained after the collision.

L’amiral n’a pas exclu que la collision ait pu être provoquée par un facteur extérieur ou une cyberattaque. Cet accident n’est pas le premier (voir encadré) et intrigue certains spécialistes de la Défense.
« Il y a quelque chose de plus que la simple erreur humaine car sinon cela impliquerait énormément de gens », avance par exemple Jeff Stutzman interrogé par le site McClatchyDC.
Pour cet ancien spécialiste de la guerre de l’information et de la marine, qui travaille désormais chez Wapack Labs, une société de sécurité informatique, tout bâtiment qui s’avance dans le détroit de Singapour aura sur le pont une équipe complète de vigiles et d’opérateurs radars.
De son côté, interrogé par le site « International Business Times », Todd Humphreys, un professeur à l’Université du Texas et spécialiste en systèmes de navigation par satellite, va plus loin dans la suspicion.
Pour lui, cet accident semble « statistiquement très suspect ». Et il n’hésite pas à faire un parallèle avec un incident intervenu en juin en Mer noire et au cours duquel des signaux GPS auraient été trafiqués via, selon lui, « un signal qui provenait du continent russe ».
La piste russe n’est cependant pas la seule à être soulevée. Interrogé par le site australien news.com, Itay Glick, un autre expert de cybersécurité qui a travaillé pour les services de renseignements israéliens, avance que si la Russie a les capacités d’effectuer une telle attaque, la Chine l’a également.
« Je ne crois pas aux coïncidences », explique-t-il encore en rappelant que « l’erreur humaine » est toujours une solution de facilité pour expliquer un accident.
À « l’expert » dont les pontifications concluent l’article, on fera remarquer que la Navy a viré tout l’état-major de l’USS Fitzgerald et on rappellera aux Échos que l’amiral Richardson met en avant une deuxième hypothèse « matérielle ».
Certains font remarquer que les nombreuses gesticulations de la Navy dans un contexte où le nombre de bâtiments baisse pourraient avoir aboutir à une fatigue des équipements et des équipages…

A Chinese state-run newspaper claimed Monday that the most recent collision of a U.S. Navy destroyer with a merchant ship was an example of the U.S.’s “arrogance” in conducting patrols in and around the South China Sea.
The nationalist Global Times ran an editorial Monday shortly after the USS John S. McCain was hit by an oil tanker east of Singapore in the Strait of Malacca and 10 sailors were reported missing.
While stating the collision was an example of the U.S. military’s decline and that Chinese society’s “applause” was tantamount to the nation’s feelings toward the U.S. encroaching on its territory, the opinion piece also claimed that the U.S. is not trying to avoid such collisions.
“U.S. warships are constantly involved in accidents around the South China Sea,” the op-ed, which is often considered direct thoughts from the Chinese government, read. “On the one hand, the U.S. Navy has behaved arrogantly in the Asia-Pacific region. It lacks respect for huge merchant ships and fails to take evasive action in time, thus resulting in serious accidents.”

The US Navy is facing difficult questions about the health of its fleet in the aftermath of the USS John S. McCain’s collision with an oil tanker east of Singapore on Monday, the latest in a series of naval accidents in the Pacific.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson ordered a rare, one-day operational pause in response to the latest collision. And while the cause of the USS McCain crash is still to be determined, the spate of accidents — four since January — suggests there could be a more systemic issue.
Lawmakers and defense analysts are warning that the Navy’s readiness problems — which have led to longer deployments for ships and less time and money for maintenance and training — could be playing a role in the uptick in crashes.
In addition to the Navy’s stand-down, the Marine Corps grounded all of its aircraft for 24 hours earlier this month on the heels of two deadly crashes “to focus on the fundamentals of safe flight operations, standardization, and combat readiness.”
House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, said it was unprecedented that “two military services have now had to take a knee to review safety and training procedures.”

Former Virginia Republican Rep. Randy Forbes, who is now a fellow at the Naval War College, said the concern over the recent incidents goes beyond just determining why the collisions occurred, but points to a broader issue if the Navy had to ramp up in a significant conflict.
“When our ships are having this much difficulty sailing in open waters, it gives us a lot of concern about what would happen if we were in a major conflict and how we would operate there,” Forbes said. “The Navy is in desperate need of additional resources so that they can do the kind of training they need, they can do the kind of ship maintenance they need.”

Forbes said traffic congestion would likely be a commonality, too.

Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin, the three-star commander of the U.S. Seventh Fleet based in Yokosuka, Japan, will be relieved of command on Wednesday in connection with four collisions since January, including two involving fatalities, two U.S. officials said, according to the Journal. The state-run China Daily said in an editorial on Tuesday that people will wonder why such a sophisticated navy keeps having these problems.
“The investigations into the latest collision will take time to reach their conclusions, but there is no denying the fact that the increased activities by U.S. warships in Asia-Pacific since Washington initiated its rebalancing to the region are making them a growing risk to commercial shipping,” it said.
China has been upset at U.S. freedom of navigation operations near Chinese controlled islands in the disputed South China Sea, where China has been reclaiming land, building air bases and increasing its military presence.
“While the U.S. Navy is becoming a dangerous obstacle in Asian waters, China has been making joint efforts with the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to draw up a Code of Conduct for the South China Sea and it has boosted navigational safety by constructing five lighthouses on its islands,” the China Daily said.
“Anyone should be able to tell who is to blame for militarizing the waters and posing a threat to navigation.”

Carl Schuster, a Hawaii Pacific University professor and former director of operations at the US Pacific Command’s Joint Intelligence Center, said that he thought it was unlikely that the ship would have been hacked.
“Navigating a ship in a shipping channel is a manual operation. It comes down to watch attention and awareness. It’s a training procedure issue and a watch qualification issue,” he said.
He added that even if the steering had been compromised it would be possible for the McCain to outrun the tanker, and that some degree of directionality would be possible by changing the speed of the port and starboard propellers.
The “traffic situation” in the shipping channel at that time should be the focus of investigation, Ridzwan Rahmat, a senior defense and security analyst at Jane’s suggests.
“The signs were that the merchant ship was in compliance and the damage on the USS John S. McCain suggests that it wasn’t in compliance” of traffic rules at the time, he said.

Sur l’incompétence des commentateurs, je remarque qu’aucun n’a fait la remarque que le navire de guerre coupe la route d’un bâtiment de commerce dans un rail…
L’hypothèse d’une cyberattaque relève du délire. Mais peut-être que les hackers russes ou chinois dont déjà capables aujourd’hui de liquéfier les cervelles d’une équipe de quart en passerelle, après tout de quoi ne sont-ils pas capables ?
Si le GPS est tombé en rade ou a été piraté, on dispose d’autres moyens de navigation, mille sabords, notamment en vue de terre. Bon sang, l’abordage a eu lieu à 5 miles du principal phare de la région et à 10 miles de la côte ! Si la passerelle a besoin du GPS pour naviguer, il y a lieu de s’interroger sur les compétences requises pour être officier de quart dans l’US Navy.
Mais, de fait, on en est bien là : couper la route d’un navire dans le rail (je sais je me répète, mais ça ne passe pas !…)

The collision on Monday between a Liberian tanker and a US warship, the latest in a series of incidents in Asia, has provoked questions about possible Chinese involvement.
A former Royal Navy officer said that the movements of the Guang Zhou Wan, a Chinese commercial vessel, could be significant in explaining the fatal crash off Singapore that left at least one sailor dead. A further nine are missing.
Tracking data indicates that the tanker that collided with U_SS John S McCain_ was followed by the Chinese vessel, which appeared to steer out of the way before the incident.

Initial reports from the organization suggest that a “steering casualty”—a loss of control over steering from the bridge—contributed to the McCain’s fatal collision. That, and the nature of the ship’s steering and navigation system, has led to speculation that the McCain was “hacked” and that perhaps some sort of malicious electronic attack was also involved in the Fitzgerald’s collision.
But so far, available evidence suggests something much less sinister—though potentially more threatening to the overall readiness of the service. There was no hacking, no GPS spoofing or jamming, nor any other deliberate enemy electronic attack on the Navy ships involved in this year’s accidents. Watch standers aboard modern warships may have more technology to help them, but they still face a daunting task when they enter high-traffic areas as treacherous as the Strait of Gibraltar—or the Strait of Malacca, the approaches to the Bosporus and Dardanelles, and the approaches to Tokyo Bay. Deployed Operational Employment and Risk Management (Force Employment), to include Combatant Commander mission requirements, theater security cooperation requirements, maintenance impacts, other competing priorities (fleet experimentation, concept development), and their corresponding impact to operational tempo (OPTEMPO) and fundamental mariner and seamanship proficiency;
e. Material Readiness of electronic systems to include navigation equipment (e.g. AIS, radars, ECDIS, VMS, WSNs), propulsion machinery to include steering systems, combat system modernization, and material availability;
f. Practical Utility of current navigation equipment and combat systems including sensors, tracking systems, displays, and internal communications networks to evaluate their effectiveness at integrating tactical data and providing situational awareness to our people.

The bridge of each Navy destroyer is controlled by a round-the-clock shift of young officers, who must pass written and oral exams to qualify for the positions. Still, they typically are under 25 and may have little shipboard experience. Junior officers also move on to other assignments after limited tours.
“Are we shortchanging their basic training, especially as we rotate our junior officers every 18 to 24 months?” asked Admiral Crowder.
Training for junior ship officers has changed significantly in recent years. In 2003, the Navy dropped what had been an intensive six-month training course on navigation, basic seamanship, engineering and maintenance before new officers were assigned to their first ship.
Instead, the new officers were sent directly to a ship where they were supposed to learn on the job. Some said they got practical training on deployments, and noted that the Seventh Fleet had a reputation as being the most experienced in the Navy. But, many commanders said, crews were too busy to provide that kind of instruction.
By last year, the Navy had largely reversed course, sandwiching a junior officer’s first sea tour between 14 weeks of classroom work.

Most ships use a traditional “five and dime” watch rotation, in which sailors serve five hours of watch, then have 10 hours off, he said. But during those 10 hours, sailors often have daytime duties.
The rotation can lead to a watch officer pulling a 20-hour day every three days, Mr. Cordle said, adding that even designated sleep time can be interrupted by drills or refueling operations that can keep sailors up for days at a time. A recent Government Accountability Office report said sailors were on duty up to 108 hours each week.
“I averaged 3 hours of sleep a night,” someone described as a Japan-based Navy officer wrote on Reddit last week. “I have personally gone without sleep for so long that I have seen and heard things that weren’t there. I’ve witnessed accidents that could have been avoided because the person was so tired they had no right to be operating heavy machinery.”
Navy tests of sailors on the five-and-dime schedule found lack of sleep led to blunted decision-making and reflexes that were roughly the same as those of sailors who had downed several beers.
The Naval Postgraduate School has developed a shorter watch schedule to match circadian rhythms, which uses three hours of watch duty and nine hours off. Recognizing the benefits, submarines were ordered to move to a similar schedule in 2015.
Mr. Cordle said adopting the schedule could result in greater safety. But the Navy has left scheduling up to individual captains, and three quarters of ships still use the five and dime.

McCain (DDG-56) collisions, the Navy is conducting investigations, relieving commanding officers, conducting safety stand downs (operational pauses), and retraining. This is a similar response to past mishaps, but this time the Navy must include true root cause analysis . Analysis after mishaps invariably uncovers human error and training deficiencies as causal factors. Some people get fired and others retrained. The Navy has begun to dig deeper with the CNO’s mandate for a fleet-wide investigation last week. I predict some of the findings of root causes will include the Navy’s approach to training and career development, surface warfare officer (SWO) culture, and high operational tempo (OpTempo) driving mission over people.
When a junior officer (JO) reports to a warship, he or she immediately has three jobs: standing watch under instruction, running a division, and earning qualifications (first as an officer of the deck and then as a SWO). Once qualified to be a watchstander, a JO is on the watch bill and expected to train the next batch of JOs. Depending on the number of qualified watchstanders on board, the watch rotation varies: “port and starboard” (6 hours on watch and 6 hours off); “five and dime” (5 hours on and 10 hours off watch, rotating); three or four section “chow to chow” rotating (based around mealtimes); “3 on/9 off” or “4 on/8 off” with two watches per day that do not change for a given underway. The “off” time is when a JO can accomplish day work, run the division, and work on qualifications—along with a little sleep and maybe squeeze in a run on the treadmill.

The U.S. Navy appears to be the only maritime organization in the world that does not have dedicated watchstanders and separate dedicated professional tracks for deck and engineering.

Another root cause likely will be the alertness level of those watchstanders. Watch rotations vary greatly in the fleet, partly because of the variability in the number of qualified watchstanders and partly because of SWO culture. Many COs will direct the watches be run the way he or she experienced as a JO. The vast majority of Navy ships still use rotating watches, which is completely against human circadian rhythms. With rotating watches, everyone sleeps when they are off watch because they are in a constant state of exhaustion. Myriad sleep deprivation studies have proven that lack of sleep is cumulative. You can’t “catch up” on sleep, and decision-making is impaired just like being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Yet the Navy has not addressed watch rotations to maximize crew rest. Instead, it perpetuates a culture where lack of sleep is a rite of passage, and the main risk assessment tool does not account for crew rest.

The Singapore Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB) launched a marine safety investigation following the collision of the USS John S McCain and Liberian-flagged oil tanker Alnic MC on Aug 21.
A TSIB spokesperson said on Thursday (Aug 31) that the investigation was launched immediately after the collision, and the probe was being conducted in accordance with the International Maritime Organization’s Casualty Investigation Code in Singapore’s capacity as a coastal state.
“The US Coast Guard, on behalf of the US National Transportation Safety Board, and the Liberian Maritime Administration are participating in Singapore’s safety investigation as Substantially Interested States,” the spokesperson said.
To date, investigators have interviewed the crew members of the Alnic, while TSIB has been coordinating with the US Coast Guard to gather relevant information on the US guided-missile destroyer, including statements of account from its crew.
TISB has also obtained shipboard data from the Alnic and other ships in the vicinity at the time of the collision to support the Singapore-led safety investigation, the spokesperson said.

The U.S. Navy is planning to haul the damaged guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain to its ship repair facility in Yokosuka, Japan where damage assessments will continue to take place.
The Navy said Tuesday it intends to issue a task order on an existing contract, for the salvage patching and transport via heavy lift of USS John S McCain (DDG 56) from Changi Naval Base in Singapore to the U.S. Navy’s Ship Repair Facility-Japan Regional Maintenance Center in Yokosuka, Japan. The Navy did not specify which existing contract it was referring to.

The commander of the Navy’s largest operational battle force and his subordinate in charge of the attached destroyer squadron have been removed from their positions as a result of ongoing investigations into a string of incidents this year that resulted in the death of 17 sailors and hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, USNI News has learned.
U.S. 7th Fleet Commander Vice Adm. Philip Sawyer removed Rear Adm. Charles Williams, commander of Combined Task Force 70, and Capt. Jeffery Bennett, commodore of Destroyer Squadron 15, from their positions on Monday (Tuesday local time) due to a loss of confidence in their ability to command, two Navy officials told USNI News and later confirmed by a statement from the service.
Les réparations auront lieu « localement », à Yokosuka. Localement, parce qu’il faut encore acheminer l’USS John S McCain de Singapour à Yokosuka (transfert prévu dans le courant de ce mois). Contrairement à l’USS Fitzgerald qui lui était à Yokosuka et va être acheminé à Pascagoula dans le Mississippi (probablement en décembre).

<Epilogue du 13 Juin> Emilie Brouze de Rue89 a mené l’enquête et réussi à obtenir l’info selon laquelle Paypal aurait fini par geler le compte associé à cette collecte. Même si au final l’un des responsables du bloc identitaire indique qu’une partie de la somme a bien été collectée et versée. Et que le reste de la somme aurait été restitué aux donateurs (qui la reverseront donc autrement). Et que Paypal de son côté s’est refusé à tout commentaire et n’a en rien changé sa politique sur le sujet, se contentant de s’abriter derrière un pathétique « nous ne commentons pas les cas particulier ». Les survivants des hommes, femmes et enfants morts en mer apprécieront. Au final donc, acter le fait que cette collecte ait été gelée mais ne surtout pas considérer cela comme une victoire. Se souvenir d’abord que l’objectif de ladite collecte avait été largement dépassé. Et que Paypal continue et continuera en toute impunité de financer des campagnes de haine équivalentes à celle-ci. La C-Star è entrata a far parte della flotta di Egerstrom lo scorso marzo. Prima batteva bandiera di Gibuti ed aveva il nome di Suunta. Apparteneva ad un’altra società specializzata in sicurezza marittima privata, la Sovereign Global Solution, fondata dal francese Jerome Paolini e da Bruno Pardigon, uomo d’affari da anni residente proprio a Gibuti. Secondo un cablogramma diffuso da Wikileaks, Pardigon avrebbe dato supporto negli anni passati alla Blackwater statunitense, attraverso la sua precedente società, la Djibouti Maritime Security Services, per operazioni antipirateria.
Dallo scorso gennaio la Sovereign Global ha annunciato di voler uscire dal settore della sicurezza antipirateria. Poco prima sul sito aveva reso nota la partecipazione ad una missione di recupero di migranti somali. Un cambio di strategia aziendale che potrebbe essere un indizio del futuro utilizzo delle società di mercenari nel controllo dei flussi di migranti. Le società di sicurezza marittima, che hanno operato soprattutto nell’area dell’Oceano indiano, con la riduzione ai minimi termini degli assalti del pirati somali hanno oggi la necessità di trovare nuovi fronti.

Intorno a martedì 18 luglio 2017, come reso noto dagli organi di stampa, è previsto l’arrivo al porto di Catania della nave C-Star, lunga 40 metri, costruita nel 1975, battente bandiera dello stato africano di Gibuti. Tale imbarcazione è stata noleggiata dal gruppo dichiaratamente razzista e xenofobo “Generazione Identitaria” per respingere, attraverso azioni paramilitari, i migranti che tentano di attraversare il mar Mediterraneo, intralciando così i preziosi salvataggi delle ONG delle navi umanitarie, sempre più criminalizzate.
La sosta nel porto di Catania o di altri porti siciliani sarebbe funzionale all’imbarco delle provviste necessarie alla “missione” e all’imbarco di “volontari” arruolati nell’operazione paramilitare.
Le seguenti associazioni firmatarie chiedono alle Autorità in indirizzo di impedire l’utilizzo delle infrastrutture portuali alla nave C-Star attualmente nella disponibilità dell’organizzazione “Generazione Identitaria” e di prendere posizione in tal senso verso le autorità competenti. Sarebbe infatti a nostro avviso assai grave che si concedesse l’attracco e l’utilizzo delle infrastrutture pubbliche a organizzazioni che hanno l’intento di compiere azioni paramilitari nel mar Mediterraneo, intercettando imbarcazioni di migranti e arrogandosi il diritto di intervenire consegnando i naufraghi alla guardia costiera libica e violando di fatto l’obbligo di legge che vuole l’accompagnamento verso il porto più sicuro, che non è certo quello libico.
Temiamo inoltre che la presenza di una nave non coordinata con la Guardia costiera possa ostacolare le operazioni di salvataggio con grave pericolo per i naufraghi e per il personale operante in mare. Si tratta di un’operazione razzista alimentata da una propaganda falsa e tendenziosa, che non possiamo avallare con alcun tipo di supporto logistico o silenzio istituzionale.

La C Star dichiara rotte di Tunisi ma questa notte risaliva per nord-est probabilmente per evitare il traffico in ingresso al Canale di Suez. Arrivo dichiarato a Tunisi il 26 luglio.... ma... In realta’ con la rotta attuale, e sono ancora davanti Porto Said, in Egitto, per arrivare a Tunisi, ma sarebbe lo stesso se puntassero su Catania, non si faranno vedere nel porto di arrivo dichiarato prima del 2 agosto... stima ufficiale di Marine Traffic . Le moins qu’on puisse dire est que le trajet n’est pas direct… puisqu’il commence par un aller-retour à la pointe nord-est de Chypre.

Credo che sino ad oggi vadano a nord est per immetersi nella rotta da est ad ovest del Mediterraneo, che si colloca un poco più a nordi della rotta da ovest ad est ( Gibilterra-Suez). Avevo notato anch’io la stranezza,rotta per nord-est, fino ad oggi si giustifica con il traffico in ingresso Suez.

Je me rends compte avoir mis mon commentaire ci-dessous dans le mauvais fil de discussion. Du coup, je copie-colle :
Pour info, la C-Star bat maintenant pavillon mongole et non plus de Djibouti (et ceci même si maritime trafic n’est pas à jour).
J’ai discuté de cela avec les journalistes de la RTS qui ont couvert ce matin le sujet et avec Fulvio Vassallo, qui a confirmé le drapeau de #Mongolie.
Fulvio ajoute :
C’est pratique pour ce genre de bateaux de changer de drapeau pour des questions fiscales mais surtout pour des questions de juridiction aussi dans le domaine pénal. Ca serait difficile qu’un procès pourrait avoir lieu dans le cas où leurs actions causeraient des victimes en Méditerranée. S’ils battaient pavillon UE un procès serait déjà entamé contre eux.

La C Star della missione Defend Europe di Generazione identitaria e’ partita questa sera del porto di Famagosta (Cipro)e naviga a 6,4 nodi di media verso ovest. Per Tunisi o Catania fanno circa 900 miglia. Ne puo’ fare 150 al giorno. Senza intoppi e senza fare rifornimenti, in sei giorni puo’ arrivare in zona Sar libica, come a Tunisi o a Catania. Adesso bisogna "accoglierli"in base a quanto prevede la legge italiana... Di certo godono di forti appoggi economici e politici per venire fuori due volte, a Suez ed a Cipro, da situazioni di fermo della nave. Adesso vediamo come si comportano le autorita’ italiane, maltesi, greche e tunisine,per non parlare dell’accozzaglia libica. Un link lega l’indagine sulla nave Iuventa con l’operazione della destra europea “Defend Europe”. E’ il contatto tra la società di sicurezza privata #Imi_Security_Service di #Cristian_Ricci – ovvero il gruppo di contractor che ha denunciato le “anomalie” della nave #Iuventa, facendo aprire il fascicolo della Procura di Trapani - con l’ex ufficiale della Marina militare #Gian_Marco_Concas, uno dei portavoce di Generazione identitaria. Esperto di navigazione e skipper, Concas è stato definito come il “direttore tecnico” dell’operazione navale della rete europea anti migranti, che in queste ora sta muovendo la C-Star nella zona Search and Rescue (Ricerca e Salvataggio) davanti alle acque libiche. E’ apparso in un video della fine di luglio leggendo un comunicato ufficiale di Generazione identitaria, dove l’organizzazione si rivolgeva – con tono di scherno – alle associazioni antirazziste, all’Arci e alla redazione di Famiglia cristiana.
Il nome di Concas è inserito nel gruppo social ufficiale della società che nell’ottobre dello scorso anno inviò prima all’Aise (servizio segreto militare) e poi alla squadra mobile di Trapani la segnalazione sui movimenti “sospetti” della nave dell’Ong tedesca, sequestrata lo scorso 2 agosto dal Gip di Trapani. Il gruppo non è aperto al pubblico, è collegato al sito web ufficiale della Imi e prevede l’approvazione della richiesta di iscrizione da parte degli amministratori. L’elenco degli iscritti è invece liberamente consultabile, e composto da diversi contractor, molti dei quali con esperienze militari attive nel curriculum. In sostanza si tratta dello stesso contesto di provenienza della società di mercenari inglese che ha fornito a Generazione identitaria la nave C-Star, ora in arrivo sulle coste libiche.

Sur une image qui avait été publiée par Defend Europe (v. ci-dessous) pour accuser les ONG, mais qui s’est révélée être fausse, car le transborder de Open Arms avait été manipulé par des hackers inconnus, comme expliqué ici :
Al post sono allegati due screenshot che risalgono alla fine di luglio; uno in particolare ha aspetti curiosi, se non inquietanti. Mostra il tracciato su carte marittime della nave Open Arms, che arrivano fino a ridosso della costa libica. La data riportata è quella del 23 luglio scorso. Un tracciato molto simile – sempre relativo a una presunta presenza della nave della Ong Open arms davanti alla costa libica – era già stato pubblicato sull’account twitter dell’organizzazione con il 25 luglio. Quel dato era però falso, come ha raccontato Famiglia Cristiana che ha raccolto la testimonianza diretta di Marine Traffic, l’hub digitale che raccoglie e pubblica i dati di navigazione. Il trasponder della nave Open Arms era stato manipolato, hanno confermato i tecnici, da ignoti hacker. Alcuni esperti di sicurezza informatica consultati da Famiglia cristiana hanno spiegato che l’operazione è possibile e diffusa, soprattutto ai fini di frode delle assicurazioni. Non solo. Gli stessi esperti hanno spiegato come attraverso appositi software sia fattibile un attacco più sofisticato, in grado di sabotare i sistemi di navigazione di una nave a distanza, simulando una comunicazione radio da autorità marittime.

Gli estremisti di destra europei di Generazione identitaria sono arrivati nel mar libico davvero tardi. Il lavoro “sporco” lo ha fatto Minniti in collaborazione con la Guardia Costiera di Serraj. Adesso i giovani identitari europei scorazzano davanti alle coste libiche, scattandosi selfie tra una nave umanitaria ed un’altra, navi impegnate in attività di ricerca e salvataggio, che salvano vite umane, ma che si vorrebbero allontanare per salvare l’identità europea. Per la nave “nera” nessun codice di condotta, nessuna ispezione a bordo. L’operazione DEFEND EUROPE della nave C STAR va avanti con i motori al massimo, mentre le navi umanitarie vengono bloccate, sequestrate o rallentate, con tutti i mezzi. Sembra che nessuno voglia davvero fermare una imbarcazione che è entrata nel Mediterraneo con lo scopo di bloccare i migranti in mare, in acque internazionali, e restituirli alla Guardia costiera libica, una attività paramilitare dagli esiti imprevedibili, che si vorrebbe perseguire come “vigilantes privati” del mare, nella colpevole inerzia degli stati costieri che dovrebbero arrestarli. La C Star imbarca persone coinvolte nelle stesse organizzazioni, che hanno fatto partire l’inchiesta della magistratura trapanese contro la nave Juventa dell’associazione tedesca Jugend Rettet.

I giovani identitari della C Star continuano a lanciare false informazioni, dopo avere abbandonato le acque libiche ed avere saltato il porto di Zarzis, forse per le proteste dei pescatori. Probabilmente stanno puntando sul porto di Sfax o su Tunisi. Questa mattina,hanno occupato abusivamente il canale 16 di soccorso con proclami ideologici,chiamando la nave degli spagnoli di Open Arms, e vanno raccontando di essere stati avvicinati dalle navi umanitarie in modo pericoloso. Mentre sono loro che si sono messi a fare slalom in piena zona SAR ( Search and Rescue) durante operazioni coordinate dalla Guardia costiera italiana. I tracciati li smentiscono. Andrebbero fermati perchè non rispettano le convenzioni internazionali, e nessuno sa cosa trasporti davvero la nave. Inoltre il loro log di navigazione indica ancora come porto di arrivo un porto di Cipro ( turca). Forse mettono in conto che qualcuno li respingerà indietro là da dove sono venuti, se gli basta il carburante per ritornare. Ovunque si avvicinano le popolazioni si ribellano al loro arrivo, questi i fatti che non possono nascondere.
La nave C Star di Generazione identitaria impegnata nella missione Defend Europe sta entrando in contatto con Aquarius di SOS Mediterranee. Sviluppi imprevedibili. Fate circolare al massimo questa notizia. Le autorità italiane e libiche stanno permettendo il rallentamento dei soccorsi in mare in acque internazionali.

Lo stato di salute del giornalismo italiano si può misurare da questa constatazione: la controinformazione la fa ormai Famiglia Cristiana. Finito il tempo in cui erano il manifesto o altri fogli della sinistra che era conflittuale, per sapere due cose che nessun altro zerbino del potere osa scrivere bisogna andare a rovistare in un settimanale in vendita nelle parrocchie…

Caught in the act : NGOs deal in migrant smuggling
Ship-tracking software and reports from journalists prove that NGOs, the Italian Coast Guard and smugglers coordinate their actions. The Automatic Identification System (AIS) exposes NGOs operating in Libyan territorial waters. Since the ouster of President Ghadafi, a growing number of Africans are smuggled into Europe. They travel via Libya from where they cross the Mediterranean. Different “humanitarian” organisations or NGOs involved are an indispensable part of the smuggle route to Europe. We noticed that the Italian coast guard, NGOs and locals coordinate their actions. Whatever they call it themselves, these operations cannot be classified as genuine rescue operations.
The Dutch, Maltese and German based NGOs are part of the human smuggling network and one wonders, are these NGOs themselves criminal organisations.
Whatever the motives of these NGOs, their behaviour is illegal, and in countries governed by a constitution, i.e. European states, crime should be prosecuted regardless of the intention of its perpetrators.
We followed the movements of the Golfo Azzurro on 12 October. We used AIS Marine Traffic signals, twitter and the live reports of a Dutch journalist on board of the Golfo Azzurro.
On the evening of 12 October at 21:15, 113 people were picked up 8.5 nautical miles off the Libyan Mellitah Complex, by four NGO ships; the Phoenix, the Astral, the Iuventa and the Golfo Azzurro. At that moment these four ships were within the territorial waters of Libya.
During this transport, 17 persons were reported missing, including a three-year-old child.
Wednesday 12 October eight o’clock in the morning, the Italian coast guard informed the Golfo Azzurro about the coming “rescue” operation, 10 to 12 hours in advance; they directed the Golfo Azzurro to a location within the Libyan territorial waters. Eveline Rethmeier, a Dutch journalist, was on board of the Golfo Azzurro. At 20:23 (UTC time 18:23) she posted a video were ‘Chief of the Mission’ Mateo told the crew something was coming. In her blog she wrote: “At eight o’clock in the morning we got the messages that there is a ship with problems 30 nautical miles away from us. The Italian coast guard asked assistance in the area. We were briefed by ‘Chief of the Mission’ Mateo. He told us that we should be prepared for guests.”
The Italian coast guard did not only direct the Golfo Azzurro to the Libyan territorial waters but also the Phoenix, the Astral and the Iuventa. According to the Malta Today: “It was around 7 pm (12 October) when the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Rome contacted Phoenix. Still, it was only at 9.20pm that the rubber boat was sighted by – making use of the Schiebel drones on board the Phoenix. In cooperation with the other search-and-rescue NGOs in the area, a rescue operation was swiftly launched.”2) The Golfo Azzurro was told at 8.00 AM that there was a ship with problems while the Phoenix was contacted 10 to 11 hours later!
During the week that we monitored the area, four Italian tugboats, among them the Megrez, were stationed at the Mellitah Complex, and they were idle most of the time.
While the Golfo Azzurro started its 30-mile trip to assist the boat 6 to 9 nautical miles off Mellitah, it took 10 hours before the Megrez, one of the four tug boats, left the port of Mellitah (20:00 pm) in the direction of the “rescue” point.
The Megrez sailed 6 nautical miles into the open sea, 2 nautical miles from the rescue point. Around 20:40 it reached its end point and without stopping it turned around and went back to Mellitah, where it arrived at 21:17. The whole trip including time, date and speed is recorded by the different AIS tracking websites.
The Megrez, an Italian registered tugboat, sailed in a straight line up and down without stopping and without participating in the “rescue” operation. It looks like the Megrez just dropped something in the open sea and immediately returned home. Forty minutes later after the Megrez turned around, perfectly timed, the Phoenix spotted a boat with migrants.
8.5 nautical miles off Mellitah, within Libyan territorial waters, the four ships, belonging to European NGOs, started their “rescue” mission and picked up 113 persons. The closest safe port is Zarzis in Tunis, about 65 nautical miles west from the “rescue” point. This port is frequently visited by the ships that operate for these NGOs. Instead of bringing the migrants to Zarzis, the Phoenix brought the immigrants 275 nautical miles north to Italy. Of course, the 113 passengers paid 1000 to 1500 euro to be shipped to Europe and not to be transported to Tunis.
On the basis of our observation, it turned out that the Italian authorities knew in advance that there would be a “rescue” operation that night.
They contacted the Golfo Azzurro in advance as the ship was more than 30 nautical miles off the Libyan coast. The captain knew that he was scheduled to pick up migrants, although there was not yet a distress signal. At that moment the migrants were probably still in Libya. At 19:00 the Phoenix was warned by the coast guard and directed to the pick-up point. At 20:00 the Megrez left Libya. 2 nautical miles from the pick-up point, at 20:40 hours it turned around. Forty minutes later the Phoenix spotted the rubber boat. The whole operation was perfectly scheduled. 3)
It looks like the “rescue” is a part of a well organised hazardous human trafficking operation. The fact that 17 people went missing does not make this a rescue mission. The organisers and those involved are entirely responsible for the safety of their passengers and should be held accountable.

J’étais en train de préparer une #curation autour de la croisière identitaire #DefendEurope quand je suis arrivée ici : wouaw : beau boulot !!! Après une campagne de crowdfunding houleuse [plusieurs supports ayant gelé la cagnotte] mais hélas finalement fructueuse, les identitaires européens ont envoyé plus de 120 candidatures afin de monter à bord du bateau traqueur d’ONG & #migrants, le C-Star, loué pour l’occasion. " Seuls les plus vaillants ont pu rejoindre la croisade " bien évidemment, puisque toute cette opération est avant tout un énorme coup de communication interne et externe.

Encore une fois, seule la lutte paye !
Le navire anti-migrants des identitaires européens vient d’être chassé de Tunisie. Il lui a été impossible de se ravitailler dans nos ports. C’est une grande victoire pour toutes celles et ceux qui se sont mobilisé-e-s, en Tunisie et ailleurs et que nous remercions vivement pour leur aide.
En effet, depuis plusieurs semaines, ce navire de la honte est rejeté partout : en Egypte, à Chypre, en Crète, en Sicile et maintenant en Tunisie.
Devant ce nouvel échec cuisant, les racistes ont encore rebroussé chemin.
Continuons nos efforts ! Pas de fascistes en Méditerranée, ni nulle part ailleurs !

« Les migrants sont des lâches », m’a dit un membre de l’équipage du bateau antimigrants.
Mon interlocuteur est un jeune homme agréable et plein de ferveur, qui parle beaucoup d’histoire et de politique... avec des idées bien définies.
À en croire Simon Wald, la réponse à la crise migratoire est très simple. « Il y a une solution évidente : ces migrants doivent cesser de fuir leurs pays et se consacrer plutôt à les rebâtir. Le problème, c’est que ce sont des lâches. Ils s’enfuient, laissant leurs familles, leurs amis, leurs parents et leurs grands-parents. Ils ont laissé tout ce monde derrière eux, juste parce qu’ils espèrent une vie meilleure en Europe. »
Facile à dire pour un Allemand en tenue de sport de marque et ne manquant apparemment de rien, un jeune homme dont la génération n’a jamais connu un conflit tel que ceux qui envoient aujourd’hui des populations à nos portes. Mais ce raisonnement présente un grand nombre d’autres lacunes.

Das Geld für die Aktion, an der Identitäre aus mehreren europäischen Ländern beteiligt sind, wird über die US-Plattform „WeSearchr.com“ akquiriert. Die präsentiert sich als Community, die nach dem Crowdfunding-Prinzip finanzielle Mittel für unabhängige Recherchen einsammelt. Der „Marktplatz für Informationen“ gibt sich dabei einen seriös-rebellischen Anstrich.
Alle Inhalte - so behauptet die Plattform in ihren FAQ - würden von Redakteuren geprüft. Themen ohne journalistische Relevanz würden nicht veröffentlicht. Ausgangspunkt einer Recherche ist dabei immer eine eingereichte „Frage“ eines Users, der dann ebenso wie die Recherchierenden einen Teil der Spenden erhält.

Auf der Plattform WeSearchr findet sich auch „Defend Europe“. Die IB informiert über ihre Kampagne mit einem Videotrailer und einem Blog. Bislang haben (Stand 08.08.2017) mehr als 2.700 Beitragende rund 202.000 US-Dollar (ca. 171.000 €) für „Defend Europe“ gespendet, damit ist das Projekt derzeit das erfolgreichste auf der Plattform.
Die Spenden erfolgen größtenteils anonym. Kann man der Auflistung der Eingänge Glauben schenken, sind keine Großspenden darunter: Die höchsten Einzelbeträge belaufen sich auf 2500 US-Dollar. Anders als bei Crowdfunding normalerweise üblich ist der Finanzierungs-Zeitraum in diesem Fall nicht begrenzt.

Spencer gegründete Website „Altright.com“ pries in martialischen Worten die IB im Juli für ihren Beitrag zur „Schlacht um das Mittelmeer“ und behauptete, „junge Weiße überall in der Weißen Welt“ würden nun „angesichts ihrer Entrechtung erwachen“. Pourquoi la mission du navire antimigrants en Méditerranée est illégale
"Dans l’espoir de faire éclater au grand jour un supposé trafic d’êtres humains coordonné par les ONG, les identitaires ont choisi de procéder à des « filatures » en pleine mer. Samedi 5 août, l’équipage de l’Aquarius a eu la surprise de voir arriver droit sur elle le C-Star : « Ils ont fait route sur nous à une vitesse supérieure à la nôtre. Nous avons gardé notre cap. Ils nous ont suivis, puis sont partis après avoir envoyé un message par radio », relate l’ONG. Une telle manœuvre, susceptible de provoquer une collision entre les vaisseaux, est illégale. Le règlement international pour prévenir les abordages en mer (Ripam ou Colreg en anglais), définit le cadre légal en la matière. Du fait de son activité, les navires portant secours aux migrants sont considérés comme des « navires à capacité de manœuvre restreinte ». Il est donc formellement interdit d’interférer avec leurs activités puisque, ne pouvant pas manœuvrer librement, le risque de collision est grand. Dans tous les cas, l’ensemble des bateaux en haute mer, C-Star compris, se doivent d’éviter ces incidents à tout prix (règle n° 8)."

Voilà qui va porter un coup considérable à la réputation des identitaires européens, embarqués sur le “C-Star” pour une campagne anti-migrants en Méditerranée. Comme le faisaient remarquer nos confrères du HuffPost britannique, cela fait quelques jours que le bateau affrété par le groupe d’extrême droite “Defend Europe” restait étrangement silencieux.
Le bateau des identitaires a été torpillé ce matin par un autre bateau d’identitaires venus de Russie. Le bateau патриоты (#Patriote) venait d’arriver dans la zone depuis 48h avec la même mission, empêcher les bateaux de passeurs d’apporter des migrants en Europe.

Die Aktivisten an Bord wollen am Samstag im französischen Lyon eine Pressekonferenz abhalten. In ihrer Erklärung schreiben sie sich den jüngsten Rückgang der Anzahl von Flüchtlingen im Mittelmeer auf die Fahnen und sagen, sie hätten den „Druck der Bürger Italiens gegenüber dem Ansturm von Illegalen“ verstärkt. Von den Schiffen der „Komplizen der Schmuggler“, die „wie Taxis“ im Meer auf Kunden warteten, sei nur noch eines übrig und habe nichts zu tun, freuten sie sich.
Seit dem 1. Juli sind lediglich rund 13.500 Flüchtlinge und Migranten aus Libyen in Italien gelandet, gegenüber 30.500 im gleichen Vorjahreszeitraum. Experten sehen darin eine Folge von Bemühungen, die Zuströme aus Subsahara-Afrika nach Libyen einzudämmen.
Am 11. August hatte Libyens Interimsregierung außerdem die Zone der Verantwortung seiner Küstenwache, in der ausländische Schiffe nur mit Genehmigung operieren dürfen, beträchtlich ausgeweitet, und mehrere Seenotretter hatten ihre Aktivitäten eingestellt.
In ihrer Erklärung loben die Identitären die Unterstützung durch „berühmter politische Figuren wie Nigel Farage und Frauke Petry, außerdem die libysche Küstenwache“. Man habe konkrete Ergebnisse dadurch erzielt, dass man „am rechten Ort zu rechten Zeit“ war. Die Gruppe kündigt an, „neue Initiativen“ würden folgen.

Directeur de l’#université_d'été_identitaire, il est l’identitaire typique, tient un discours anxiogène, distribue des fake news... et se charge de former les futurs identitaires. Ancien militaire suisse, il a été d’abord suspendu en vertu de l’article 113, qui impose le retrait de toute arme « pour cause de risque d’usage abusif d’armes et de violence ». Après un procès pour détention illégale d’armes, Cattin a été renvoyé de l’armée, notamment à cause de ses convictions nazies.
Sa présence à bord du C-Star est incertaine, bien qu’il était à Catane.

Paris, August 23, 2017 – Chartered by European identitarian and xenophobic groups, the C-Star (“racist” in reverse) and its crew claimed this summer to hinder the efforts of NGOs to rescue Mediterranean boat-people. The boat completed an eventful first mission, still flying a flag of convenience granted by Mongolia. FIDH is sending a letter today to the Mongolian Minister of Transports, asking for the boat’s deregistration, as the Defend Europe collective’s objectives are contrary to both the Mongolian Constitution and international maritime law.

La formula “#taxi_del_mare” l’ha inventata nell’aprile del 2017 Luigi Di Maio, leader del Movimento 5 stelle e vicepresidente della camera. Era il suo modo per screditare l’attività delle organizzazioni non governative che soccorrono i migranti nel Mediterraneo. Di Maio sosteneva che la presenza delle navi delle ong davanti alle coste libiche incentivasse le partenze di chi voleva raggiungere l’Europa. Quelle navi, aveva detto in un’intervista, “prendono dei migranti in mare, non li salvano mentre stanno per affogare; per me sono taxi”.

Depuis quelques semaines, l’extrême droite européenne s’est lancée dans une consternante opération de collecte de fonds dont le but affiché est de financer des interventions en mer pour « défendre l’Europe » et empêcher les bateaux des ONG de répondre aux obligations internationales de sauvetage en mer.

Il contrasto politico e giudiziario contro il soccorso in mare ai migranti da parte delle ONG ha aperto un nuovo e clamoroso capitolo. Come è noto, l’ONG spagnola Proactiva Open Arms è stata accusata dalla Procura della Repubblica di Catania di associazione per delinquere finalizzata al favoreggiamento dell’immigrazione clandestina per aver rifiutato di consegnare 218 persone, tra cui donne e bambini, alla guardia costiera libica, che aveva minacciato con le armi i soccorritori. Il loro avvocato ha parlato di introduzione in Italia del “reato di solidarietà”. I giuristi dell’ASGI (Associazione di studi giuridici sull’immigrazione) hanno richiamato «il rispetto degli obblighi derivanti dal diritto internazionale in materia di rifugiati, tra i quali il “principio di non respingimento”», ribadendo che la Libia e i suoi porti non possono essere considerati luoghi sicuri per l’accoglienza delle persone salvate in mare.
Già nell’estate scorsa alle dichiarazioni roboanti e a iniziative clamorose come il sequestro della nave “ribelle” dell’ONG tedesca Juggend Rettet, che non si era piegata al regolamento imposto dal ministro Minniti, non hanno fatto seguito rinvii a giudizio e rapidi processi, come era stato annunciato. Il vero obiettivo appare quello di dare in pasto alla pubblica opinione dei “colpevoli” di flussi migratori descritti come apocalittici, e sull’altro versante di intimidire e scoraggiare i soccorritori. La campagna di criminalizzazione ha già avuto effetti sulla raccolta fondi, perché il maggior capitale di cui dispongono le ONG è la fiducia dei donatori. La sete di nuova sovranità nazionale che domina la scena politica, anche a costo della vita per chi bussa alle porte, tollera sempre meno chi difende i diritti umani rifiutando di sacralizzare i confini. Tra i principi morali e le leggi statali si sta riaprendo una pericolosa divaricazione.

The malware/worm is causing disruptions at banks, hospitals, telecommunications services, train stations, and other mission-critical organisations in multiple countries, including the UK, Spain, Germany, and Turkey. Telefonica, FedEx, and the UK government’s National Health Service (NHS) have been hit. Operations were cancelled, x-rays, test results and patient records became unavailable and phones did not work.
The ransomware completely encrypts all your files and render them unusable. They ask you to pay some money to get the decryption key. ($300 to $600 worth in bitcoins). Paying does not guarantee you will get a decryption key though.
The malware spreads through social engineering e-mails.
Be careful with any attachments you receive from unknown sources (and even known sources). Make sure the files are sent intentionally.
Watch out for .pdf or .hta files, or links received via e-mail that point to .pdf or .hta files.
More than 45.000 computers worldwide have already been infected, but there appears to be a kill switch, i.e. a way to stop its spreading.
As one of the first operations, the malware tries to connect to the website www.iuqerfsodp9ifjaposdfjhgosurijfaewrwergwea.com. It doesn’t actually download anything there, just tries to connect. If the connection succeeds, the program terminates.
This can be seen as a kind of kill switch provision, or perhaps it had some particular reason. Whichever it is, the domain has now been sinkholed and the host in question now resolves to an IP address that hosts a website. Therefore, nothing will happen on any new systems that runs the malware. This will of course not help anyone already infected.
Microsoft has released a patch to block the malware on Windows machines:

IBTimes UK earlier reported how French cybersecurity researcher Adrien Guinet, from Quarkslab, released a decrypting tool that allowed only Windows XP users to recover their data. Guinet’s work was advanced by internationally acclaimed ethical hacker Benjamin Delpy who exploited the shortcomings of WannaCry and used it to create a tool called WanaKiwi that produces a decryption key for Windows XP, 7, 2003, 2008 and possibly Vista.
French ethical hacker and co-founder of CloudVolumes, Matt Suiche confirmed that WanaKiwi has been tested and shown to work on Windows 7 and older Windows versions like XP, 2003 and more. Europe also tweeted confirming they were able to use the tool for decryption.
How it works
While WannaKey extracted prime numbers that had not been erased from the system and were vital to the decryption key, it required a separate app to transform those bits into the secret key. WanaKiwi scours the memory of the infected systems, extracts the p and q variables the secret key was based on, and reassembles the finished key all by itself. The tool then uses the key to decrypt all files locked by the WannaCry ransomware.

Murs hongrois : une faillite de la politique migratoire européenne ?
En répondant à la crise migratoire par l’érection de murs et de contraintes réglementaires arbitraires, la Hongrie ne fait que révéler un mal plus profond : l’absence de politique migratoire européenne. Cet impensé contribue à attiser les égarements xénophobes dans les pays de l’Union européenne (UE), voire rend possible la faillite du projet d’intégration européenne dans son ensemble.
Il muro dell’Ungheria di Orban, ferita nell’Europa di oggi
Nell’estate del 2015 l’Ungheria fu fortemente esposta alla crisi dei rifugiati lungo la rotta balcanica. Migliaia di profughi, soprattutto siriani, giunsero alla frontiera serbo-ungherese dopo aver attraversato Turchia, Grecia, Bulgaria e Macedonia. La città di confine di Subotica, in Serbia, divenne un grande parcheggio di anime alla ricerca di una via per l’Europa, e questa via era l’Ungheria.
Le autorità magiare si trovarono spiazzate, e senza preparazione per fronteggiare la situazione. Permisero il transito lungo quella frontiera e poi sul territorio nazionale, per far sì che quella gente in marcia sconfinasse rapidamente in Austria, paese-ponte per la Germania: la meta più ambita per chi fuggiva e fugge ancora oggi da guerre e povertà.
Andò così per un po’, fintanto che Viktor Orbán, il premier ungherese, non decise di erigere una barriera metallica lungo i 175 chilometri di confine con la Serbia, replicata a stretto giro anche su quello con la Croazia, altro passaggio chiave sul crinale balcanico.
La barriera ungherese è stata percepita da tanti come un vulnus nell’Europa post-89; come il ritorno sgradevole di un muro, dopo il collasso di quello di Berlino, in cui l’Ungheria ebbe un ruolo fondamentale. Nell’estate del 1989 il governo di Budapest, rinnovato nei ranghi, deciso a negoziare la transizione con le opposizioni seguendo la via tracciata da Wałęsa e Jaruzelski in Polonia, e avviato all’apertura graduale del confine con l’Austria, permise ai tedeschi dell’est in vacanza nel paese magiaro di sconfinare in Austria, e trovare dunque asilo a Ovest. Per la DDR fu un colpo tremendo: la dimostrazione che i suoi sudditi volevano lasciarla.
E sempre a proposito di fughe via Austria al tempo della Guerra fredda va ricordata quella degli ungheresi dopo la rivoluzione del 1956, affogata nel sangue dai carri armati dei sovietici. È anche per questo motivo che il “muro” al confine con la Serbia è stato visto come un insulto che Orbán ha arrecato alla storia del suo stesso paese.
Ma il fattore storico-emotivo si rivela insufficiente e limitante per capire il significato politico della chiusura della frontiera sud e di quella della rotta balcanica (che però è solo parziale: l’area di crisi si è spostata in Bosnia-Erzegovina), su cui Orbán e il suo partito, Fidesz, hanno costruito una parte importante del consenso, ancora notevole dopo tre elezioni vinte (2010, 2014 e 2018). Sigillare la frontiera è stato un passaggio decisivo sulla via di quella democrazia non liberale, o illiberale, che Orbán vuole realizzare. Il suo modello di Europa, un’Europa cristiana e conservatrice, vede nell’immigrazione un pericoloso grimaldello. Il flusso dei rifugiati sulla via balcanica è stato percepito come un’ulteriore sfida al cuore del vecchio continente, e Orbán ha più volte sostenuto che l’Ungheria si è attivata per salvarlo. A questa retorica, mistica e mitica, si è affiancata una propaganda cinica e spietata contro i rifugiati e l’odiato George Soros, per Orbán il massimo interprete della dimensione multiculturale del paradigma liberale.
La costruzione della barriera sulla frontiera meridionale è stata per Orbán un’occasione politica da cogliere rapidamente, per dimostrare che la sua vocazione non liberale è cosa seria e opporsi alla Germania di Angela Merkel e alla sua politica delle “porte aperte”, altra espressione di prima fascia dell’ideologia liberale. Orbán, in quei frangenti, sembrava in netta minoranza, ma la realtà rivela che aveva perfettamente intuito ciò che si celava dietro l’iniziale empatia verso i rifugiati, e cioè quel sentimento di paura, diffidenza e persino rabbia aperta nei confronti dei rifugiati che, alimentato dalla frustrazione sociale post-crisi, si aggira per l’Europa.
Il primo ministro magiaro sembrava predicare nel vuoto anche nel 2010, quando, tornato al potere dopo otto anni di purgatorio, espresse il gran rifiuto alle politiche di austerità. Poco prima l’Ungheria, travolta dall’urto della crisi, era stata salvata dal Fondo monetario internazionale. Il governo Orbán non seguì più la sua ricetta, impostando una politica economica alternativa. I tassi furono portati ai minimi e vennero applicate imposte salatissime sui grandi capitali dominanti nel bancario, nella grande distribuzione e nelle telecomunicazioni: capitali in maggioranza stranieri.
Agli occhi di Orbán hanno colonizzato oltre il limite consentito l’Ungheria post-89, favoriti da una classe dirigente – quella liberale e post-comunista – passiva e inadatta a proteggere il paese dall’assedio del capitale straniero, oggi in ritirata: il governo ha riacquisito molti di questi asset. Grazie poi al ritorno alla crescita (dovuta prima di tutto alla ripresa europea e mondiale), ha aperto i rubinetti dando al sistema di welfare, prima pallido, fondamenta molto più solide.
Con questa politica economica, di rottura, di rivalsa e di assistenza, capace di dare sia sfogo che copertura alla delusione dell’Ungheria – condivisa in tutta l’area Visegrad – per la mancata convergenza economica con l’Europa occidentale, che fu la grande promessa dell’allargamento del 2004, Orbán non solo ha edificato consenso in patria, ma si è messo alla testa del movimento populista in Europa. Inizialmente è stata infatti l’avversione all’austerità imposta dal modello liberale-liberista a sospingerlo. Il contrasto nei confronti dei rifugiati e dell’immigrazione in generale sono un successivo e ulteriore gradino nella strategia, ambiziosa, di disegnare un’agenda di destra conservatrice e non liberale che sappia prima o poi essere maggioritaria in Europa.
E pensare che in origine, al momento del crollo del comunismo, la Fidesz si presentava come un partito liberale, fatto da giovani. Poi Orbán lo rimodellò, dandogli una linea cristiano-democratica, e con questa impostazione riuscì a vincere le elezioni nel 1998. Nel 2010 si è presentano con la maschera populista-sovranista, ed è quella che ancora porta. Altri hanno iniziato a indossarla, cercando di scalare il potere. A oggi ci sono riusciti solo Jarosław Kaczyński in Polonia e, per un periodo breve, Matteo Salvini in Italia. In altri paesi Ue i partiti, la stampa e l’opinione pubblica riescono ancora a formare un cordone sanitario nei confronti del modello Orbán e dei suoi aspetti più autoritari, quali il controllo assoluto sulla stampa e sulle università, oltre che i periodici attacchi all’indipendenza della magistratura.

NYT Advocates Internet Censorship

The simple reality is that lots of dubious accusations get flung around during the heat of a campaign – nothing new there – and it is always a challenge for professional journalists to swat them down the best we can. What’s different now is that the Times envisions some structure (or algorithm) for eliminating what it calls “fake news.”
But, with a stunning lack of self-awareness, the Times fails to acknowledge the many times that it has published “fake news,” such as reporting in 2002 that Iraq’s purchase of aluminum tubes meant that it was reconstituting its nuclear weapons program; its bogus analysis tracing the firing location of a Syrian sarin-laden rocket in 2013 back to a Syrian military base that turned out to be four times outside the rocket’s range; or its publication of photos supposedly showing Russian soldiers inside Russia and then inside Ukraine in 2014 when it turned out that the “inside-Russia” photo was also taken inside Ukraine, destroying the premise of the story.
These are just three examples among many of the Times publishing “fake news” – and all three appeared on Page One before being grudgingly or partially retracted, usually far inside the newspaper under opaque headlines so most readers wouldn’t notice. Much of the Times’ “fake news” continued to reverberate in support of U.S. government propaganda even after the partial retractions.
So, should Zuckerberg prevent Facebook users from circulating New York Times stories? “I won’t fly refugees to their deaths”: The El Al pilots resisting deportation
At least three El Al pilots in recent days published public declarations of their refusal to take part in the deportation of asylum seekers to countries where their lives may be in danger.
Captain Yoel Piterbarg, a pilot on Israel’s national airline, wrote the following on Facebook (Hebrew):
“Israel is populated primarily by Jews who, in their near and distant pasts, were refugees in countries around the world. The vast majority became citizens and a small number remained as refugees. Most went through the Holocaust, many were forcefully expelled from their countries, and many others emigrated out of a desire to improve their lives in better countries that agreed to accept them.
Out of all people we, the Jews, must be attentive, empathetic, moral, and leaders of public opinion in the world in how we treat the migration of refugees, who have suffered and continue to suffer in their countries of origin.
I will not fly deported refugees against their will for the legal reason (there is no other legal reason) that they are likely to endanger the safety of the flight.”
In another Facebook post, El Al pilot Shaul Betzer wrote (Hebrew):
“As part of the Jewish people, as someone who was raised and educated with Zionist values that renewed the existence of our nation in the Land of Israel, who has lived here his entire life, who has taken part in missions behind enemy lines, which required no small amount of courage and belief in the justness of our path, recognition of Jewish morality and the sanctity of every human being whoever they may be, all in order to ensure ourselves and the generations to come that we will never again be refugees and reliant on the goodness of others.
There is no way that as part of the flight crew, I will take part in flying refugees/asylum seekers on their way to a destination, in which their chance of survival after arrival (“a third country”) is close to zero.
Not much courage is required for such a mission, but I will not be able to do what is required of me in such a mission. As a pilot and as a human being.”
A third El Al pilot, Iddo Elad, wrote on his Facebook page (Hebrew):
“I have joined many of my good friends, in declaring that I will not fly refugees to their deaths. I won’t take part in that barbarism.”
More than 7,500 Israelis signed a petition, published by “Zazim — Community Action” earlier this month, calling on the Israel Airline Pilots Association and ground services staff at Ben Gurion Airport to “stand on the right side of history and refuse participate in this immoral deportation.”
The deportation cannot be carried out without the cooperation of pilots, the Zazim petition noted. (Full disclosure: My life partner works for Zazim.) In the first nine months of 2017, over 200 deportations of asylum seekers “failed” because German pilots for Lufthansa and its subsidiary, Eurowings, refused to take off with them on board, declaring that flight safety could be compromised if someone says they do not want to take the flight. In the UK last summer, a Turkish Airlines pilot refused to take off upon learning that a refugee was being deported against his will to Afghanistan.
In recent weeks the Israeli government approved the deportation of refugees to third countries.
According to the plan, the Holot desert detention facility, where many asylum seekers are held, will shut down and those who refuse to leave “voluntarily” to Rwanda and Uganda (and perhaps other countries) will be imprisoned indefinitely. According to numerous reports, which Rwanda and Uganda have denied, Israel will pay those countries $5,000 for each refugee they take in from Israel. Additionally, Israel will pay $3,500 to each asylum seeker who agrees to leave, although that sum will get smaller over time, thereby incentivizing them to leave sooner than later.
The agreements between Israel and those two African countries are not new. For years now Israel has paid asylum seekers to leave to Rwanda and Uganda. Despite Israel’s promises that those who agree to leave won’t be in danger, hundreds of testimonies demonstrate that they are not actually given any status or remain welcome in those countries. Instead, they are forced into yet another life-threatening journey. They are vulnerable to exploitation and humiliation, human trafficking, frequent arrests, demands for bribes, and threats. Some of them fall victim to kidnapping gangs, some into the hands of ISIS, and many choose to risk their lives trying to make it to Europe by boat.
It appears that all of the previous flights taking asylum seekers from Israel to Rwanda and Uganda were operated by non-Israeli airlines, including Ethiopian Airlines, and other carriers that service both Tel Aviv and Rwanda or Uganda. Israeli Pilots Refuse to Fly Deported Refugees Back to Africa
A group of airline pilots in Israel recently vowed not to fly deported African asylum seekers and refugees back to war-stricken countries in their home continent, Israeli media has reported.
Their protest comes days after Zizim Community Action, an Israeli non-government organization, launched an online campaign calling on pilots from the Israel Aviation Association and the Israel Pilots Association to refuse to fly migrants to Rwanda, Sudan or any other country deemed dangerous by the group.
“Throughout the world, citizens are fighting cruel expulsion decrees and stand alongside refugees and asylum-seekers,” Raluca Gena, chief executive officer of Zizim, said in a statement last Thursday. “This is a test for the Israeli public to determine the fate of tens of thousands of people."
