The Network makes use of LoRaWAN technology. LoRaWAN, is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN), is used to transport telemetry data over an extended range of up to several kilometres. A node, named a “Thing” in the network connects to a gateway to publish telemetry data to a server on the internet, which can then exchange data between multiple internet services.

A Closer Look at LoRaWAN and The Things Network
    https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/a-closer-look-at-lorawan-and-the-things-network

In this post we first take a look at just how it is that LoRaWAN is able to cover far greater distances than traditional wireless systems, before exploring the network architecture, looking at some of the hardware options and finally, support via the crowdsourced IoT data network, The Things Network.

    Understanding the Limits of LoRaWAN
    https://arxiv.org/pdf/1607.08011.pdf

Transportation and logistics are seen as two major pillarsof the expected IoT growth over the next few years thanksto their impact on the global economy. Most applications aretargeting efficiency in areas such as public transportation ortransport of goods. However, some applications are tolerant todelay, jitter or unreliability and some others are not.Different standards have been developed in the 5.9 GHzband for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) based on theIEEE 802.11p standard. The constraints on delay are diversefor different applications, but LoRaWAN, being a LPWANsolution, is not suitable for these applications. On the contrary, solutions such as fleet control and management can be sup-ported by LoRaWAN.

Was ist LoRa und LoRaWAN? Vorteile, Nachteile, Hintergründe.
    https://www.lora-wan.de
