    #LebanonProtests (THREAD): On structures:
    (1) the most preoccupying question now is: what’s next? some argue for the need to establish structures that would eventually speak on behalf of the revolution; others say no one has the right to do so. Let the street decide.

    (2) the importance of structures goes beyond the centrality of the revolutionary moment; structures are way more important in the long run, because eventually they would play a major role in negotiating/claiming rights – whether transition is likely to happen or not;

    (3) already many professions are rediscovering their role - or are getting a boost for their previous efforts (uni. professors, independent judges, economists etc). This is GREAT!

    (4) resistance is seeing the light too. for instance, AUB students yesterday defied the decision of AUB president to call for resuming classes. They succeeded in doing so!

    (5) Media strictly focusing on personal grievances. Till now unlike the orchestrated role it previously played (2015) in giving the air to “social society activities” or “experts” – this time is different no voice is being given to these people.

    Potentially an attempt to contribute to weakening the movement and not consolidating its voice. They are not giving voice to dissent beyond individual grievances.

    (6) MOST important structures that we need at this stage are SAFETY NETS to defend individuals who joined the movement – specially in the regions – to prevent zu’ama and their clients from taking their revenge on them (through physical threat or social and economic exclusion).
