UPDATE: Since this was posted solutions are starting to emerge. There’s a safe place for food distribution, Porte d’Ulysse is open day and night, a hotel will host 120 people, Médecin Sans Frontières is securing beds for people on the street who fall ill.
Thank you everybody who’s pulling their weight for the most vulnerable...

    Original post:

    What’s the plan here?

Today a huge number of police accompanied by dogs chased the migrants out of Parc Maximilien.
They were pushed out of the park. Some of the volunteers helping out migrants with lodging and food got a fine.
People distributing food were told to pack up their stuff. A large groupe of migrants went to the HUB Humanitaire in Avenue du Port, others to ALLEE DU KAAI or to other places they are familiar with, people distributing food containers followed them. Only to be met with more police cars chasing them away.

‘What’s the plan here?’ we asked the police and the answer was that there is no plan. Only harassing of migrants and harassing the last citizens who want to feed them.

In the evening a new place to distribute food popped up: Quai du péniches. So all the migrants gathered again.

There’s an estimate of 1000 migrants, 4-8000 homeless. Stuck. Hungry. Homeless. Chased by the police from park to square. In a time when there is a contagious virus ravaging.

Policy makers: why not accompany the solidarity? Create a safe framework for those volunteers? Support those organisations in the front line? Open abandoned buildings to create safe spaces to be at during this confinement? Take over hotels (like France) or youth hostels (like leuven)?

    Tell us citizens:
    What’s the plan here?
