Remixing Recipes
Everyone likes their cooking to be a little different. Some people like it spicier, saltier or sweeter than others. So any good cook is going to make at least a few changes to a recipe he or she finds online.
Enter Fork the Cookbook, a recipe site based on GitHub that lets you do just that. Fork, or clone, copies of the recipe with your own changes to make them better, and then let other people see the adjustments you’ve made. Your recipe will link back to the original you’ve improved upon. Now you’re cooking with technology.
Merci @klaus++ !

Amazon would have you believe that one of its product features is responsible—Amazon AutoRip is a feature that gives customers free MP3 versions of select vinyl and CDs purchased through the e-commerce giant.
Amazon says that AutoRip-enabled vinyl records sell at a 62% higher volume than non-AutoRip albums, pushing vinyl unit sales up 66% year-over-year since the company launched AutoRip in early 2013.

– ReadWrite
▻http://readwrite.com/2013/05/20/blinded-by-big-data
The trick, then, is to approach our data with caution. It’s not that data can’t help us anticipate the future. It can. Just ask the City of Chicago, which has a very successful predictive analytics platform used to anticipate crime and health trends, among other things.
The mayor’s office, which endorses this project, estimates it will cost up to $5 million to build. Though the plan has not yet obtained funding, Bloomberg Philanthropies selected the project as a finalist Monday in its Mayors Challenge contest, which will award up to $5 million for innovative city initiatives that “solve major challenges and improve city life.”
Goldstein’s team talks of ways to prevent graffiti, rodents and garbage cart thefts.
Ah oui, mais ce n’est que le début :
Graffiti and rodents are mere starting points, says Brenna Berman, an ex-IBMer who’s now first deputy CIO.
Using open source saves the city money on software and lets it start without a big investment.

Showrooming, the practice of looking at items in a physical store and then buying them online, is yet-another pain-in-the-butt problem facing brick-and mortar retailers. Despite all the hand-wringing, however, there are ways to mitigate the problem.
First, there’s evidence to suggest that the showrooming is not quite as bad a problem as some think …
