On notera d’ailleurs qu’une bonne part des combattants pro-gouvernementaux est constituée de milices dont certaines sont sans doute assez difficiles à contrôler.
Je ne savais pas que les indépendantistes avaient désormais une fenêtre sur la mer d’Azov...
Par ailleurs, ce n’est pas spécifié dans la légende, mais la carte laisse supposer que les auteurs considèrent les « autres » territoires « occupés » par la Russie : Abkhazie, Ossétie du Sud, mais ausi - et c’est étonnant, Daghestan et Tchtechénie, et encore plus étonant, le sud de la Carélie et des territoires occidentaux de la péninsule de Kola ! (on dirait presque une carte de la fin de le la seconde guerre mondiale).

L’ancien chef militaire du Hezbollah est mort dans un attentat à la voiture piégée en 2008 à Damas.
La CIA et le Mossad ont organisé ensemble l’élimination de l’ancien chef militaire du Hezbollah Imad Moughniyeh, mort dans un attentat à la voiture piégée en 2008 à Damas, rapporte vendredi soir le Washington Post.
Citant d’anciens responsables du renseignement, le journal américain affirme que les services d’espionnage américains et israéliens ont travaillé de concert pour cibler Moughniyeh le 12 février 2008, alors qu’il quittait un restaurant dans la capitale syrienne.
Moughniyeh a été tué par l’explosion d’une bombe, placée dans une roue de secours à l’arrière de sa voiture.
La bombe, qui a été fabriquée et testée aux Etats-Unis, a été déclenchée à distance par le Mossad à Tel Aviv qui était en communication avec des agents de la CIA se trouvant à Damas.
Selon le Washington Post, c’est Israël qui aurait émis l’idée d’une opération conjointe.
Les deux services de renseignement ont également eu l’opportunité de tuer au même moment Qassem Soleimani, le commandant de la Force Qods, une unité d’élite iranienne, car ce dernier marchait aux côtés de Moughniyeh, révèle le Post, qui indique que la présidence américaine n’a pas autorisé son élimination.
Imad Moughniyeh était soupçonné d’avoir orchestré l’enlèvement d’otages occidentaux au Liban dans les années 1980, ainsi que l’attentat de l’Association mutuelle israélite argentine AMIA à Buenos Aires, qui avait tué 84 personnes en 1992.(...)

Bush and carried out by the CIA under the direct supervision of then-director Michael Hayden and a very, very small group of top CIA officials.
“That was us,” said a former official who participated in the project, on condition of anonymity to discuss the operation. “The Israelis told us where he was and gave us logistical help. But we designed the bomb that killed him and supervised the operation.”

Il en fut à peu près de même lors de l’institution de ce que l’on appela les « Kapos » (de l’italien il capo, la tête, le chef), détenus qui avaient le commandement de Kommandos de travail et qui étaient responsables devant le chef SS du Kommando qui les faisait placer là par le chef du service du travail. Les Kapos avaient à leurs côtés des contremaîtres ; c’étaient des surveillants qui dirigeaient, mais ne travaillaient pas. Seulement, dans les cas où cela était indispensable, la SS plaçait à ces postes des ouvriers spécialistes. A French probe has shown that regular accusations leveled at Qatar that it finances terrorism are “not true,” Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Wednesday.
“We had our intelligence services carry out precise investigations that showed that was not true,” Fabius said of the lingering accusations against the tiny, oil-rich Gulf state.
The French government has come under pressure from opposition parties after the jihadi attacks in Paris to review its diplomatic ties with Qatar over its alleged financing of extremists in the Sahel, Yemen, Libya, Iraq and Syria.
U.S. officials have accused Qatar of not doing enough to stop private fundraising for terrorist groups.
In March last year the U.S. Treasury’s under-secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, David Cohen, said Qatar had become “such a permissive terrorist financing environment, that several major Qatar-based fundraisers act as local representatives for larger terrorist fundraising networks that are based in Kuwait.”
In 2013 the U.S. designated as a terrorist an Al-Qaeda “financier and facilitator” in Qatar, Abd al-Rahman bin Umayr al-Nu’aymi, accused of transferring millions of dollars to affiliates in Iraq, Syria, Somalia, and Yemen over the past ten years.

After the television cameras went dark on the Winter Olympic Games last year in Sochi, the areas around the resort city were in danger of becoming expensive ghost towns.
President Vladimir Putin spent $50 billion on the Olympics, and had hoped his investment would leave behind a skier’s paradise in the mountainous Russian subtropics. But holiday bookings in Sochi were sluggish over the past year, as Russia grappled with a political crisis and increasing international economic isolation because of its involvement in Ukraine.
In the past several weeks, however, the resorts around Sochi have had a resurgence. Russians have tripped over themselves to reserve hotel rooms, book last-minute ski packages and fill Black Sea mountain getaways to near capacity.
Russia’s economic and political crisis, it turns out, just might have saved Putin’s post-Olympic dream.
It started around the time the ruble tumbled, trading in late November around 60 to the euro, compared with about 45 at the start of 2014. (It’s now almost 80). That made the cost of a European ski vacation jump for Russians who were accustomed to going on foreign holidays.

The Iraqi army has been paying salaries to at least 50,000 soldiers who don’t exist, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said Sunday, an indication of the level of corruption that permeates an institution that the United States has spent billions equipping and arming.
A preliminary investigation into “ghost soldiers” — whose salaries are being drawn but who are not in military service — revealed the tens of thousands of false names on Defense Ministry rolls, Abadi told parliament Sunday. Follow-up investigations are expected to uncover “more and more,” he added.
Abadi, who took power in September, is under pressure to stamp out the graft that flourished in the armed forces under his predecessor, Nouri al-Maliki. But according to U.S. counterterrorism veterans, a system that worked pretty well during four decades of the Cold War has been no match for the linguistic, cultural, tribal and political complexities of the Middle East, especially now in Syria. “We’re completely out of our league,” one former CIA vetting expert declared on condition of anonymity, reflecting the consensus of intelligence professionals with firsthand knowledge of the Syrian situation. “To be really honest, very few people know how to vet well. The military screening plan came together after the Obama administration determined that the training program for the Syrians would not be subject to what are known as the Leahy laws, which typically govern U.S. security assistance to foreign forces.

Syrian opposition activists said the Nusra Front had taken several villages in Idlib province from the Syria Revolutionaries’ Front led by Jamal Maarouf, a prominent figure in the moderate opposition to President Bashar Assad.
“This has happened before and we came through it. But this time the mobilization is very large,” said a military official in the Syria Revolutionaries’ Front.
Twenty of the group’s fighters had been killed Monday, the official said.
“Jamal remains steadfast,” said the official, who declined to be named because he is not an official spokesman for the group. Speaking via Skype, he added that the Syria Revolutionaries’ Front had taken 25 Nusra fighters prisoner.
The Nusra Front is Al-Qaeda’s official affiliate in the Syrian civil war and one of the strongest insurgent groups fighting to topple Assad. But it has been overshadowed by ISIS.
“Nusra is making a lot of progress,” said Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the anti-regime Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Syria Revolutionaries’ Front is one of the biggest groups in the Western-backed, moderate opposition to Assad. The United States plans to expand military support to the moderate opposition as part of its strategy to defeat ISIS.
Yousef Abu Hillal, a secular activist in the Idlib area, said the advance marked the biggest setback to date for Maarouf’s group, which is loosely defined as part of the “Free Syrian Army.” The Free Syrian Army is an umbrella term used to refer to dozens of groups fighting to overthrow Assad. They have little or no central coordination and are often in competition with each other.
“This is a blow to the Free Syrian Army rebels led by Maarouf and opens the way for Nusra to expand further in the Idlib countryside,” Abu Hillal said.

« Le PYD (Parti de l’union démocratique, le principal parti kurde syrien) a accepté (le renfort de) 1.300 hommes de l’ASL, ils sont en pourparlers pour définir le chemin par où ils passeront », a déclaré M. Erdogan à Tallinn lors d’une conférence de presse conjointe avec son homologue estonien Toomas Hendrik Ilves.
Dans un entretien accordé vendredi à l’agence de presse kurde Firatnews, le chef du PYD Saleh Muslim a cependant catégoriquement démenti le chef de l’État turc.
« Ce n’est pas vrai. Il n’existe aucune déclaration de l’Armée syrienne libre sur un tel accord », a assuré M. Muslim, qui a accusé la Turquie de « vouloir créer la confusion ».
Lors de sa conférence de presse, M. Erdogan a également précisé que, finalement, seuls 150 combattants kurdes irakiens, les peshmergas, devraient rejoindre Kobané (Aïn al-Arab en langue arabe) en passant par le territoire turc.
« Je viens d’être informé que le nombre de peshmergas a été réduit à 150 », a-t-il indiqué, après avoir annoncé la veille que ces combattants seraient 200.
Les autorités turques ont annoncé lundi qu’elles autorisaient le passage par leur sol de renforts de peshmergas irakiens à destination de Kobané, située à quelques kilomètres à peine de la frontière turque.
« Comme vous le savez, nous nous sommes mis d’accord dans nos discussions avec (le président américain Barack) Obama pour que l’ASL soit notre premier choix (pour des renforts à Kobané) et les peshmergas le second », a expliqué M. Erdogan.

Les Kurdes syriens ont accueilli vendredi avec scepticisme l’annonce par le président turc de l’envoi par l’Armée syrienne libre (ALS) de 1.300 rebelles pour les aider à défendre Kobané contre les jihadistes de l’Etat islamique (EI).
Deux hauts responsables syriens kurdes, interrogés par l’AFP, ont souligné qu’il serait plus utile que les rebelles syriens ouvrent de nouveaux fronts contre le groupe extrémiste sunnite ailleurs en Syrie.
Lors d’un déplacement à Tallinn, le président turc Recep Tayyip Erdogan a annoncé que « le PYD (Parti de l’union démocratique, le principal parti kurde syrien) avait accepté (le renfort de) 1.300 hommes de l’ASL ».
La veille, un commandant rebelle syrien, le colonel Abdel Jabbar al-Okaidi, ancien de la direction de l’ASL, affirmait à la chaîne Al-Jazeera que ses troupes « se rendraient à Aïn al-Arab (Kobané en arabe, ndlr) dans les prochaines 36 heures », en passant par la frontière turque.
« Comment la Turquie peut-elle coordonner un parti qu’elle accuse de terrorisme ? », s’est interrogée le porte-parole du PYD en Europe, Nawaf Khalil.
Il a par ailleurs reproché à la Turquie ne pas avoir rejoint d’un point de vue militaire la coalition internationale, qui mène depuis un mois des frappes contre des positions de l’EI en Syrie. « Si la Turquie voulait vraiment combattre le terrorisme (de l’EI), elle rejoindrait la coalition arabo-occidentale », a estimé M. Khalil.
Selon lui, il serait par ailleurs plus utile aux forces kurdes que les rebelles ouvrent d’autres fronts dans le pays, plutôt que de venir les aider à Kobané.
« Nous n’avons aucun problème avec l’ASL, qui combat pour la liberté et la démocratie et qui respecte la volonté du peuple kurde (...), mais en ce qui concerne (Okaidi) qui se rend à Erdogan (...), nous ne l’autoriserons pas à jouer le rôle d’un cheval de Troie, en mettant en place les politiques et plans fous d’Erdogan », a affirmé le porte-parole les milices kurdes des Unités de protection du peuple (YPG), Bulat Jan. « S’ils veulent vraiment combattre l’EI, ils peuvent attaquer (les jihadistes) depuis Azaz et Afrine en direction de l’est » et aussi ouvrir des fronts dans le nord de la Syrie, à Al-Bab, Minbej et Jaraboulous, a indiqué M. Jan.
