Life in the southern city of Maan almost returned to normal on Monday, after a general strike that aimed to turn into civil disobedience continued for a second day.
Some residents of the desert city, contacted by The Jordan Times, described the scene in Maan as “cautiously quiet” after a night of sporadic clashes between Gendarmerie Forces and rioters.
On Monday, shop owners closed their businesses in the city of around 60,000 inhabitants, which lies 220km south of Amman, in response to a threat issued last week by key figures and tribal leaders over a video showing two unidentified people kicking the bodies of two Maani citizens who had been killed in a shoot-out with police near Aqaba.
