GAZA (Territoires palestiniens) - Les Palestiniens fêtaient dans la nuit de samedi à dimanche la victoire historique d’un jeune chanteur de Gaza, Mohammad Assaf, devenu l’idole de tout un peuple et de sa cause, dans le plus fameux concours de télé-crochet arabe, Arab Idol.
C’est la première fois qu’un Palestinien s’illustre aussi brillamment dans ce genre de manifestation artistique qui a suscité un engouement sans précédent dans les Territoires palestiniens.
Les célébrations ont éclaté spontanément dans la bande de Gaza et en Cisjordanie dès l’annonce des résultats de cette compétition panarabe à Beyrouth, où était produit le show.
A Jérusalem-Est, le secteur à majorité arabe de la Ville sainte, occupé et annexé, des heurts ont éclaté entre des jeunes Palestiniens et la police israélienne qui a procédé à des arrestations, coupant court à la fête, selon une journaliste de l’AFP et la police.
A Gaza, d’où est originaire Mohammad Assaf, des dizaines de milliers de badauds se sont aussitôt déversés dans les rues et le long du front de mer, a constaté l’AFP.

“I thank you for your wonderful welcome and hope the celebrations won’t feature gunfire,” Assaf said, alluding to the shots in the air that sometimes accompany celebrations in the Middle East.
Assaf said he was the son of Palestine and “son of the (refugee) camp,” and told reporters he would continue to sing nationalistic songs and raise the Palestinian flag.
“We want our freedom,” he added. “I hope I have united the two parts of our country through my participation and I wish the media would concentrate on the Palestinian people.”
Recordings of Assaf’s songs blasted out from loudspeakers as crowds thronged his motorcade as it made its way up the Gaza Strip.
